does anyone know what the fuel pump pressure is for a 1998 pathy? i went through my manual, looked on these and other forums..couldn't find anything. Any help would be high appreciated

Yeah, it could be that. Lately we have been getting some wind here, but nothing too serious. I've noticed that it's doing it more often when I'm going against the wind, so possibly that's it. As well, the RPM's are going up (or down, it's weird), from 200RPM<x<500RPM Yeah I can hear it and feel it, through the seats. It's as if the vehicle is jerking a little bit when it goes "up and down", the RPMs. This whole RPM's "randomly" going up and down feels weird because I can feel it through the seat. However, I don't think it's actually down shifting because when the RPMs go down, I tried stepping on the gas..and when I did that the car just advanced without changing gears. The truck is an automatic, you probably know this, but you would know when it changes gears, through the RPMs and you can feel it. So I don't think it's actually downshifting. However, if I put cruise control on and cruise at a low speed (I was testing to see how good of MPG I could get)..this was before this whole weird "problem" (maybe it's just happening now because of the wind we have been getting and I'm over reacting), if I'm going say 48-50mph on cruise..and I go down a hill..the RPMs drop by about 300-500..and it feels as if it wants to downshift.

I guess I should mention that it hunts up and down on the RPM's without any factors changing..such as the inclination or anything..

I have a 1998 pathfinder, SE..with 123,000 miles/200,000 kilometers. Can someone explain to me why when I'm on the highway, I put my truck into cruise control..at any speed really..50-75mph or 80-120kmh..and the rpm's will settle at the normal level..then say randomly, it will go up..then back to normal..then back up..back to normal..it's almost as if it's "fishing" or "searching" for the right gear..which I guess would make sense at speeds maybe closer to when 4th gear would switch into 3rd. This is really weird and I'm worried. For the record, the transmission fluid has been drained and refilled roughly every 25,000miles/40,000km..since I had the vehicle at 85,000miles/143,000km. Thanks in advance, as I am worried..I will be checking this thread often!

i think i will stick with the 5-6000 mile interval. my trip is mainly highway like i said, and i only run into traffic for about a few miles. i just want my truck to last, since i don't want to buy another vehicle anytime in the near future, so im trying to find ways to extend drivetrain etc. recently purchased filter mag magnets for my engine oil filter, and transmission pan, so hopefully that can help as well. don't want to overdo it and waste money, but i don't mind spending money if its going to make a difference. in last 10,000 miles i also changed my transmission, power steering, front/rear differential and transfer case fluid. fuel filter was done about 1000 miles ago, and oil change is next! also changed spark plugs, sparj plug wires, distributor, rotor (thing under distributor), battery (for one with 800 cold crank amps) in the last 10,000 miles. thanks for the useful advice guys, I really appreciate it. as mentioned, 5-6000 mile interval it is, sounds great

I have a 98 pathfinder, live in canada where winter can be -20f and summer 80-100f. i drive mainly 75 miles to work, and 75 back. and once a week do a trip of 11 miles there, and then 11 back. i have 119,000 miles, owned the vehicle since 89,000 miles. i drive about 90% highway, with maybe a few stop and go's, such as stop lights and such, maybe 4 on each trip. since i had the vehicle, i have done 5000-6000 mile oil change intervals with a mobil 1 5w30 synthetic and mobil 1 filter. im not sure how much i can extend my oil interval, since going 10,000 miles seems a bit much as some people say on synthetics. im currently at 5,000 miles and considering the change. ok so with that information out of the way, anyone with good experience recommend i change the oil or let it go a few more thousand miles. the oil is pretty clean, definitely not dark..only a bit darker than the color it went in. thanks so much in advance, any help would be appreciated! oh yeah, any info on fuel filter change interval would be great, if anyone knows about that, i have been doing it once a year every year now, and i only do about 10,000 miles a year

if you have the front chrome bumper, and bumper ends..as well as the rear bumper ends, if they're not too rusted, I will take the front and the rear, 100%. As well, if you have the stock roof rack, I'd take a couple cross bars (depending how much you'd sell them for). you can reply here or pm me, whichever, but i have paypal and can pay immediately with a clear payment.

Hey guys, I was thinking of buying a front bumper set cause all my front chrome bumpers have rusted out, and my lower plastic bumper is cracked. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170630733345&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT If you can't see the link, it's basically the chrome bumper plus lower plastic bumper. I was curious on how complicated it would be to install, and how long it would take. I'm working from home with a mechanic, but I just want to get an idea, before I actually go through and purchase the item. if any of you guys have manuals on how to reinstall the front bumper setup, that would be really appreciated. But I'm just more concerned if any of you guys know if it's a really long job, thanks in advance!

I took my roof rack off to paint the truck, and misplaced the bolts. Dealer says they don't sell them, the little bolts that bolt the black roof rack to the truck..any ideas..?

Hey guys, I wanted to know if anyone can give me a hand with a check engine light code, P0440, Emissions Evaporation System. I get 15mpg going 55mph, but used to get 18-19mpg going 72mph (the trucks runs m1 synthetic oil and filter, new spark plugs, spark plug wires, o2 sensors, battery, etc). I am not sure where to begin on how to diagnose this problem, any substantial help would be appreciated..thanks in advance

So basically my 1998 SE, with 173,000 kilometers is getting awful milage. I just changed all 6 spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. I used to get 18MPG @ 70mph on highway, I now get 10.8MPG on highway going 55MPH. Can someone please help me on what it is? I looked around the internet, and the consensus is that it's something to do with ignition coils? Any help would be highly appreciated, since my trucks taking more gas than most v8's lol

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/products/spark_plugs/gpower.asp I went with those! I hope they're ok..

Did you mean air filter? And what is the pcv valve, is it easy / fast to change? if so i can get a friend to do it for free, thanks

Alright sweet, I will look for those plugs for cheap (hard to find, everyone charges me an arm and leg to ship to Canada) The condenser, probably better to find around here since shipping costs will be a ton Is it best to change the distributor cap, spark plug wire and distributor rotor at the same time? Got the vehicle @ 143,000 kilometers, at 171,000 now, and nothing has been touched other than engine/transmission oil changes, timing belt and brakes (tires, oxygen sensors) and the like. No engine or stuff like that though. Im trying to spend the money to tune it up for the summer!
-
Hey, when purchasing a new AC condenser, is there any brand that's superior? Or ones I should stay away from? Same goes with the spark plugs. I heard the NGK Iridium IX's are really good, but are they really worth the $? running a 98 SE here, going strong @ 170km's!

They're 31 ten halfs, but the truck is looking so much better now..those pictures are from a while ago..I will get pictures whenever I get around to finishing the thing
-
I had the same problem...so I attacked it myself..here are some pictures (where ever you see new metal plates, indicates previous rust..sometimes im surprised how the flares stayed on) the last few pics are from weeks ago (im almost ready to paint), and this is my first project ever on a car (I was 19 before I started this, I am 20 now) here are the tires I am putting on when it's all done Question..does anyone notice a difference in performance from 91 to 87 octane gas? if they've tried both

Will 31x10.5 fit a 1998 SE stock without any problems? Please post up the problems I would encounter (if any), if they were mounted. Found a good local deal, thanks so much guys..hopefully I can get answers soon, the guy needs to sell the set of 4

The compass and temperature gauge doesn't show anything at all, maybe its a battery, fuse?
-
I have a 1998 Pathfinder SE, and heres my two problems 1. My rear wiper does not work, is it just the rear wiper motor or possibly a fuse? If anyone could give me a little help on this I would really appreciate it, because I don't know too much about mechanics and I am willing to learn 2. Also, my temperature gauge and compass also do not work. It worked a while ago...but now went out. Same as the first question, is there any possible trouble shooting steps I could take to pin point the problem. Thanks so much guys, and excuse my cluelessness in mechanics and/or electrical systems..

Stock ride, no lift anything..will 33x12.5x15 fit my 1998 pathfinder SE, if not..what would I have to do to make them fit I doubt they will, but I figured I could ask

I know I have posted this in the Vehicles for Sale section, but I am in need of the money really badly and need to part ways with this vehicle, and think it's a good catch for anyone interested in getting another vehicle, or looking for one in the near future. 157,000 kilometers (97,555 miles), 4x4, power locks/windows/steering, clean interior and out. New brake pads, oxygen sensors, winter tires and rims. Recent oil, transmission, rear and front diff, transfer case flushes. This SUV plows through snow, and is a great winter/off-road vehicle. The vehicle gets washed once a week, and is in immaculate condition inside and out. The vehicle got imported into Quebec in 2008, and passed inspection with all 4/5 or 5/5 points, I can bring the papers for proof. I am available for test drives if you want to inspect it, in the Montreal region. Serious inquires only, the price is negotiable. Vehicle is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Did you buy the truck new? If not, at what milage did you make the purchase at?
-
Well, seeing as how it forces itself into second gear and now it doesn't, under my ideology I would consider that a problem. If it was meant to be that way, it wouldn't have gone away. Correct? Other possible scenario; it now shifts smoothly into second gear, which is a problem. I should consider paying a visit to the local stealership, to further investigate the situation. Correct?

I have a 1998, and had the exact same problem. I just flushed my transmission oil with genuine Nissan ATF, no more than 2 hours ago, and the problem is gone. Dealer doesn't recommend adding any additives, so that's up to you.
