  1. I flush the tranny last Friday using regular AMSOIL synthetic ATF, didn't replace the pan gasket as it still looks pretty good, it seems seal very well so far. I followed the Amsoil recommended flush process, it works well. The only problem is the ATF filling flow(through dipstick tube) is slower than draining flow, I have to stop the engine once to let the tranny getting enough ATF in it. The tranny filter was not changed as it's not recommended by Nissan dealer, it looks very clean though.

  2. The filter is just a screen. No need to change it. However, drain/fill isn't the way either. The best way is to flush with new, clean fluid, and recover the old fluid with the truck runnning. Run 14L through to ensure that as much of the old fluid comes out as possible.

There are two hoses connected between the tranny and the cooler, one on the driver side, the other one on front passenger side. Do you know which one should I disconnect for ATF flush? I guess should be the outlet hose from the tranny to the cooler, but don't know which is. Please help, I gonna flush the tranny this weekend.

    Thanks.

  3. i just got the tires on.... they are sooooo nice!!!!!!!

Looks pretty good! I'm also considering to buy a set of all terrain tire, BFG's All Terrain T/A is on top of my list so far. My stock tire is 255/65-R16, thinking of going with BFG's A/T 255/70-R16, but I'm not quite sure if it will fit well on my 99.5 Pathy. Any idea on the gas milsage drop if switch from regular All-season tires to All-Terrain?

    Thanks

  4. I would change the transfer case oil out to A/T fluid asap. A/T fluid is much different than gear oil and Nissan says A/t fluid so...

I changed my front/rear diffs to Castrol Synthetic 75W90 and it's been fine.

I don't know why he would use half synthetic and half traditional oil for the front diff, should be okay but I wouldn't do it...

I show them the manual and they have changed the T/C oil to DEXRON A/T fluid this morning with no charge :itsallgood: . I did not brought enough Castrol Synthetic 75W90 with me yesterday, he suggested just add some traditional gear oil for the front diffential. I think it would be fine as most of the time the front differential gear will not be engaged at RWD mode, please correct me if I'm wrong.

  5. Hi, my truck is 99.5 Pathfinder, 4WD, 3.3L V6, VG33E. Today I changed the front/rear LSD oil and transfer fluid at a garage, the guy changed all fluid with the same oil - Castrol synthetic 75w90 gear oil(GL-5) and told me there is no problem(??). But the service manual says A/T oil is recommended for the transfer case, would it cause any potential transfer case damage if gear oil is used?

He also changed the front differential fluid using half Castrol synthetic 75w90 gear oil and half conventional gear oil, would it be OK? I don't use 4WD mode a lot anyway, If it is OK, I would just leave the front LSD oil as is.

    Any advises would be appreciated.

  6. woohoo 99.5!!

    Welcome to the board.

I don't know about the grill guard... I assume it's not too difficult to install. That "skid plate" or splash guard is easy to remove... Just a few screws/bolts... (or drag it thru some rocks and mud like I did, and it will be toast! lol) it's plastic, so not heavy, or anything.

You may want to reconsider the idea if you plan to take it off road much... it will lessen your clearance, and also, if you ever hit anything with it, there is a good chance it will do more harm than good. (I've seen the sides that come around the headlights, dent the fenders on either side)... They're not cheap, and if you do plan to get into offroading, you will want to look into a steel front bumper... our stock bumpers are way too pretty to drag over rocks!

Thanks Pezzy and Daftpup, I have changed my mind after searching the Internet about the advantages vs disadvantages of the grill guard, I'm not planning to get into offroading so far unless it's needed. Instead, I am considering put a cargo basket on top of my Pathy to get a bit more carrying capacity. Actually, I just put one on, but it doesn't fit well with my canoe, gonna return it and change with a larger one.

I'd like to ask another question, my Pathy has a mileage about 120,000 miles, do I need to replace the spark plug wires (not done during the past 5 years)? The existing ones look pretty good, but the truck do has a start hesitation problem even I have just replaced air filter and timing belt, battery fully charged, applied Lucas fuel system cleaner.

    Thanks.

  7. Hi everyone, so glad to meet so many Pathy owners from all around the world:) This is my third vehicle and first SUV. All my family especially my two little boys are very excited with this nice truck. We drove around 900km today on various road conditions, mostly highway, plus a few mile's on muddy country road, uphill and downhill but not that steep. My 99.5 Pathy runs GREAT. The 3.3L engine is a bit underpower, but it's OK to me, the point is, she is a very solid truck and make me feel safe. Unfortunately, my camera battery run out with no photo taken.

  8. Just bought a used 99.5 pathfinder 4 weeks ago and got the timing belt & water pump replaced recently. The truck is rock solid now and I love it so much. I plan to take a "long" trip to the Rocky Mountain area the day after. BTW, I'm going to install a front grill guard, does anyone can tell me if it is easy to DIY, I have noticed there is a skid plate right on the front underneath, do I have to remove that plate in order to install the grill guard? Thanks.
