Need Help - My Speedo / Odometer / Tripometers are dead!
I have a 1990 SE-V6 4x4 2-Door with the 5-Speed Manual Transmission. I am runnning 31x10.5 tires on factory aluminum Triad rims. It has just under 139,000 miles on it - at least until the odometer quit!
Just before it quit, I had engaged 4-High in order to pull my truck out of its storage location. Shortly after that is when I noticed that the Speedo had quit working. Not sure if the odometer and tripometers went inop before that, but am almost positve that they all quit at the same time. Don't know if engaging the transfer case is related or just coincidental.
In addition, the Speedo had been way off before it quit. I am in the military, and while driving on Post one morning I was pulled over by Installation Law Enforcement for driving 30 in a 40 MPH Speed Limit Zone! I didn't get a ticket - the officer was just checking to make sure that I wasn't driving overly cautious due to intoxication. I thought that I was going to get a warning / ticket for doing 42-45, so it was definitely reading inaccurately.
I don't know if the Speedo is mechanical or electro-mechanical, and don't know if it has a VSS. If you advise me to check the VSS, any assistance would be appreciated in directing me to a resource that I can use to educate myself on what the VSS looks like / location / how to trouble shoot / etc.
I need to get this fixed because I can't take a chance on driving on Post without the Speedo (see above).
Thanks in advance.
