  1. So, I pulled off my front wheel to replace a leaky brake hose. I decided to pull off the hubs and see if I could find any obvious reasons why I couldn't get it to go into 4wd. The driver side looked fine, but the passenger side was a little different. The snap ring on the driver side was snapped into the inner groove and the snap ring on the other side was snapped into the outter grove add the axle wasn't even long enough to put the snap ring on the inner groove. Also there was alot of slack between to bearing and the snap ring on the passenger side. Almost as if the last mechanic who was in there left a part off. I am about to drive down to autozone to buy some mile marker manual hubs. My question is why would the axle on the passenger side be shorter than the driver side? It looks so short i can't imagine how the hub would engage on he splines even if i manually locked it.
  2. hehe.... I'll just make them myself i guess. I already have a guy ready to help who is a better welder than i am.
  3. I couldn't find much in my searches of posts here, so here goes. I have a 1990 2door and have the rust holes under the rear seats. I have been looking for places that sell the floor pans, but have been unsucessful so far. I'm sure that i could just weld in steel but due to the proximity to the seat brackets, i think it might be stronger if i use stock steel. Any suggestions on where to find? Any tips from personal experience?
  4. No, i only have 2 jack stands and didn't have the time to go to the auto hobby shop on base. But, at least i know that one of the cv's is turning. I'll clean and re-grease then take it to base and check it.
  5. OK, I lifted the rear and put it in drive. The passenger CV is turning but the driver side is not. I assume that it because of whatever differential is in it. So, i'm off to pull the hubs so i can clean them before the game and re-grease them afterwards. I'll do a search for grease reccomendations.
  6. Thanks, I'm woking today but i'll check it out first thing on saturday. Cross my fingers and hope that the problem is old grease.
  7. Excuse me for what might be the stupidest post of all time, but i need some help. I recently purchased my 1990 pathfinder. It was the first car i ever drove (12 years old on the beach)and it feels like a piece of my childhood is sitting out back. BUT I don't think it is going into 4wd. I put it in 4hi and 4lo and tried to spin the tires on some gravel and only the rears spin. I put in 4hi, drove it about 30 feet, put the rear up on jack stands (which was also how i found out theat i needed to bleed the brakes) and only the rears spun. I am obviously new to the whole 4wd thing but i have some mechanical ability. I was figuring that either the auto hubs are not working properly or I just don't know what i'm talking about. Any help would be appreciated.
