Hello everyone! I picked up my 2003 R50 Pathfinder 4x4 locally, spending under $500 to buy it, tow it home, and get the title in my name. It came with some rust in the cargo floor and a seized VQ35DE with a power valve screw embedded in the piston and the side of cylinder number three. I then bought myself a replacement VQ35DE from another 2003 Pathfinder in a junkyard, and will be replacing the timing chain kit, oil pump, water pump, and front and rear main seals before installation. I'll also be putting some Loctite on the power valve screws
But before I can do that, I need to get done patching up the rear cargo floor. I'm converting it to a flat floor without that little storage compartment in the process, because my sheetmetal forming skills aren't great and I'm not spending $500 on a cargo floor pan replacement. It'll be strong and weathertight though, and protected from future rust, before I turn it around in the driveway and do the engine swap. My welding skills are not the greatest, but a punch and flange tool makes it so all I have to do is weld the plugs in and seal it with body sealer if I want to be lazy. I plan to put a bead around the entire floor patch, but it would be strong enough with just the plugs - it's the same as the factory spot welds.
Once that's done and I get it driving, the fun begins. I plan to fab a SFD, install LR springs for rear lift, and so on. I'm here to soak up information to help along the way.
The blue car in the background is my daily, a 1998 CR-V 5-speed AWD that I bought stock, then lifted and put the brush bumper and LED bar on, etc etc. - next project on that one is welding up a winch mount tucked into the bumper, from 1/4" bar stock.
