  1. You might want to check out Nissan options as well. The Pathfinder Offroad model comes with OEM Bilsteins and the 08V8 comes with stiffer shocks as well. .

  5. From a question on this thread I was wondering if any have experience with the VQ40 lightweight underdriven crank pulleys as supplied by WRP Technology or other companies. Is the stock crank pulley on the VQ40 also a harmonic balancer. Thanks, GB.
  6. Thanks Mz, no info in the owners manual other than API SM and 5W-30 but the local dealer (Calgary, Canada) says that the factory fill for the Canadian PF's for this area is Esso Extra which also doesn't specify an HTHS so maybe that designation difference is more for Euro vehicles.

Have any checked with a service manager to see if Nissan has a specific recommendation for either a low or high HTHS (High Temperature High Sheer) value in the 5W-30 API SM motor oil as required for the VQ40? Also I'm looking at running an ester type oil such as Redline or Motul and wondered if there could be any problems with that other than a lighter pocketbook, I'll be doing normal period oil changes and not extended. Thanks.
  8. Excellent posting KLL, Here's the link to the Australian Nissan site in English which has the similar PF's manufactured in Spain, including the bulletproof Patrol. Here's a link to PCoA, the Au Pathfinder club of guys that run these diesel stick shift PF's to extreme. Interestingly the diesel PF's get something around 30 mpg's with little effort, I wish Nissan had stood up to the plate and had gotten their diesels certified for use in North America, but I guess that would have caused too many waves amoung the other NA manufacturers. Ford anounced that they 'might' have 30mpg full sized trucks and SUV's ready for sale in NA by about 2012 or so, but meanwhile Chevy for example is selling 50 mpg diesel Hummers in most countries other than Canada and the US.   9. Remapping/reflashing the ecu is usually recommended after installing a new exhaust and might help with your mpg's.

As the wheels are hanging off of a +05 Frontier in the advert photo I'd think it's a typo in the website print and should read 114.3 (4.5") x 6 lugs, easy enough to check with NismoParts about it though, and if so the wheels should fit +05 PF's and +05 Xterra's as well. I wonder why the wheels aren't rated by NISMO for VDC use, maybe some extra stress when the VDC takes over, which leads me to wonder how many aftermarket wheels might not take extra VDC stresses.
  11. I see that Nismoparts.com has an 18" lightweight wheel for the Frontier but for non-VDC use.
  12. Just finished a 250 mile Sunday family day in the mountains type of trip, with 6 adults, a large kid and about 50 pounds of ice and coolers, likely something just north of 1200 lbs of weight. AC was on at 2 most of the day, about a 20 mph headwind for about half the trip, with winds at about zero in the afternoon, so no tail winds to help back. About 50 miles of the 250 was driving slow through resort areas, some town driving, etc, and according to the trip counter averaged 24 mpg.

  14. Yep GhostPath has it about right for the PF I think. If you look on the K&N website here at the PF/Frontier power curve charts the air kits don't start giving any additional HP till about 3500 rpm, which is fine if you need HP for drag racing or hauling horse trailers up long hills or gum booting around, but I'm running between about 1100 and 1500 rpms in town and something just under 2000 rpm for freeway, and if I could drop those by 100 or 200 rpm I'd be a happy man. If you step on it and get above those rpms though that engine will take long huge drinks. Easy enough to check it out though, block off about 1/2 to 2/3 or more of your air filter with some plastic sheeting and duct tape, reset your mpg readout, tape a fresh egg end on to both your gas pedal and brake pedal and try driving like that for about 1/2 an hour, and see where you are at. Before you do that though go pump your tires up to the sidewall psi. Bet you'll be considerably above 20 mpg...take some extra eggs. I've heard driving barefoot and just using your toes also helps learn to run these trucks for economy, but there are some other tricks like using elevation gains such as building speed running downhill and coasting up the other side. I know what you're feeling though, my other work truck is a 98 Yukon with 5.7 Vortec and I can average 25mpg easy with that just by staying off the gas. 2000 lb heavier truck, but interestingly enough it also came stock with P245/75/16 AT's in 35 psi BFG's. The PF has a really small torque band at the economy end because it's a lightweight engine imo and at those rpms you only have 50 or so HP to work with. Too bad we didn't get the 2.5 liter turbo-charged approved in North America...those are getting like 30 mpg's on diesel in the rest of the world, and with good low end torque as well.
  15. I've been digging around online since posting and went to talk to a dealership parts guy. As far as he can tell the 05+ Frontier and Xterra have a hooked up driveline right from the wheels to the transfer case with no automatic coupling in there anywhere when compared with the automatic hubs on the 04's and earlier, and with 05+ Frontier parts numbers showing up as identical to what's on the 05+ PF. I was looking into this mod if there was some possibility of changing a couple of things and freewheeling the front wheels only for some potential fuel economy improvement but it doesn't look like it's an option.
