  1. So I didn’t get the OBD2 port working but I replaced the spark plugs and it’s running back to normal now. Not sure which plug it was but they did look pretty old

  2. It's the dizzy itself that goes, unfortunately.

No dust or anything under the cap. When I try to connect the scan tool, it will not work at all. Is there a fuse that might be bad?

  3. Sounds like the distributor could be taking a crap. Take the cap off and inspect for any brown/red/gold dust in there. Very common on the 3.3.

I’m wondering if it’s a misfire. I connected a Obd scanner to it to see if it it was misfiring and it won’t even register the scanner was there. I was gonna replace all the plugs but I will take a look at the distributor first. Thanks man! You’re always very helpful

  4. Hey all,

My Pathy has been running fantastic for the past few months but the other day I was driving it and it didn’t sound right. It also didn’t have any power. It wouldn’t get past 65 and then I remembered that I put 89 octane in it with the thought that it may help improve fuel mileage. I only had about a quarter of a tank left and so I added about 7 gallons of 87. Then it drove fine again. I went to drive today and it’s actjng funny again. Could it be the fuel? Is there something else I need to check. No cel either.

  6. Hey all, I posted about a month ago I was getting about 14mpg in my pathy. I realized the knock sensor was throwing a code so I relocated that. Still getting poor fuel mileage. About the same. Anything I can do other than not drive it to improve fuel economy? Thanks.

  7. Just to fill everyone in, I relocated the knock sensor like all the videos have shown and have since fired it up and to my surprise, the p0325 code went away! Hopefully, I see an improvement in my fuel mileage. Next I think I’m gonna replace the o2 sensors like was previously suggested. The hardest part of this whole process was crimping the wires together. I’ve never done it before so it was a learning for me!

  8. Relocating a knock sensor is not that hard at all. There are several YouTube videos showing you how to do it. Just get a good quality knock sensor with a pig-tail harness.

I cheaper out the first time I tried it.....the pigtail harness had a bad ground connection. The sensor was okay, took me a long while to figure out the problem though.

Thanks for the tip! I found a video that shows exactly how to do it. Hopefully the wires colors will cooperate with me. Lol

  9. You say 250-270 miles per tank. How much are you putting in at fill up? It is a 21 gallon tank, and the gauges on these tend to read more empty than they actually are.

Get the knock sensor relocated or bypassed, how old are the o2 sensors? I replaced them on my Xterra and gained 4-5 mpg instantly. I could never get more than 14mpg before I changed them. And there were no codes, just get lazy over time.

It has been from full tank until I get to empty. So by my calculations I am only getting about 11-12 mpg. I ordered the knock sensor and wiring harness today. Which o2 sensors should I replace? I’m sure the sensors are old. I have only owned the rig since August so I am not sure. I had and 02 xterra a few years ago that would only get 14mpg too. Bugged the living heck outta me! I loved that rig and am sad that I got rid of it.

  10. Mud terrain tires?

Nope! I didn’t have CEL but I did scan for codes and I am getting a p0325. Knock sensor. This sucks. I definitely don’t have the money to take it in to get replaced, nor the patience or knowledge to do it myself. However, I did read something about relocating it. Not sure if that’ll make a difference at all but I guess it’s worth a shot.

  11. I am not sure how much my fuel tank holds but I get about 250-270 (if I am lucky) miles to the tank. Anybody else getting these numbers? I know v6 isn’t gonna be the best on fuel mileage but this seems really bad. Any suggestions to help with fuel mileage at all?

  14. Thank you all. Have new mechanic with ecellent reputation looking at it Wednesday morning. Will tell him about the steering rack bushings. Can't believer THREE people came up with that when most people say "it does what?!!"

I think the other mechanic's mindset was it is too old to put money into.

It’ll take about an hour or two to do. That’s what was wrong with mine. The oil filter wasn’t tigh enough so it was leaking onto the bushing. Completely ate it. For less than $30 I was able to do it myself in a couple hours.

  15. Sounds like that's your problem right there. The computer decides how much fuel to spray depending on how much air it thinks the engine's pulling in. Any air leak downstream of the mass air flow sensor (on the air filter box) is letting in air that the computer doesn't know about and leaning out your mixture. Fix that busted elbow and the truck should be a whole lot happier.

And yeah, you have to let it warm up before setting timing.

    Awesome. Thank you!

  16. In the service manual it states you need to check the timing when it is fully warmed up, so it would make sense that it reads too advanced when cold cause it is idling higher.

Thanks, I’ll see what happens after it’s been warm.

  17. If the computer thinks there's something wrong, it can limit RPM to 3k (or it can on the WD21s, I assume R50s are similar). If the timing is correct, my guess is that the knock sensor's seeing preignition caused by a lean mixture. Pull a plug, see if it's white on the end, and check your vacuum hoses and rubber intake pipe for cracks and dry rot.[/

I know that my air intake hose, the rubber elbow is completely cracked and not even sitting on the engine right. Could that cause a problem like this? I haven’t had a chance to replace it yet.

  18. If the timing is correct, then you may have another issue. Any codes? If the timing is too far off it usually will have no low end.

He a mechanic check the timing and he said it was a little fast at startup but after warned up it was fine. I do have a knock sensor code.

  19. Hey All! Finally got my Pathy going and runs great but it seems that it has lost some power. I did the timing belt change recently and made sure that the timing is right but it takes a bit to get to 80mph on the freeway. Also, when I am in each gear once until I get to 5th gear, it seems to have power until it gets to about 3000 rpms then I kinda cute out. Any suggestions or is this hi this engine is?

  20. This happened to me too... Replaced timing belt/water pump/etc. Was fine for about a week until someone in the Mcd's drive through says my truck is pissing coolant. Got to change that in the driveway in January in Canada. Fun.

Aww man that would’ve been awful. I’ve had to help my dad with car stuff when I was young in the middle of winter in Minnesota. It sucked

  21. So, I need to replace my steering rack. Leaks oil something fierce in many different places and the steering is way off. Anybody have experience with this? I have some pics to show what I’m looking at. Any help is definitely appreciated!
