  1. It's not 2" bigger than stock. No such thing, unfortunately. Whatever your lift method (springs, spacers, both), those just get re-used with your struts. If you think just one is blown, you can get away from replacing the one. But, for basic maintenance and consistent ride quality, may as well replace both and change out the strut bearings while at it.

So would you suggest buying a new strut assembly (or two) and putting in the larger spring that is currently on my current strut on the new one? This is what I have been considering as my main option, but I'm not 100% sure that is best as the suspension will be limited to how far it can travel. Thanks for the suggestion though. Ideally, I would like to avoid using coil spacers.

  2. So recently my Pathfinder had been making some noise in the front right suspension, and I just found out today that is is being caused by a blown strut. Now of course my pathfinder has a suspension lift on it meaning that the strut is 2 inches bigger that stock. So my question for anyone who knows is, where can i get a replacement lifted strut? I am not sure if a lifted one from a newer pathfinder will fit. I'm also not sure if the strut is maybe out of a different model like a Xterra or something similar, or even if it is a factory strut with just a bigger spring?? Point being I don't really know what the strut is. All i know is that its 2 inches bigger than stock and that its blown. If anyone has any advice on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  3. Just as an update, I did tighten up the cables and there is no longer any slack in the pedal. Any pressure applied to the pedal now gives the engine throttle, as well I find that the cruise control actually is more responsive and accurate. Definetley would recommend tightening up these cables on your pathfinder if you haven't done it already

  4. On my 1998 Pathfiner r50, I noticed that the throttle cable was loose and wanted to tighten it up, only problem is, there's another cable attached to the throttle body. I assume this cable is for the cruise control. I would like to tighten up both of these cables in order to achieve better pedal response, but I am unsure whether I will mess up the cruise control. So question being, am I able to tighten up both these cables and not mess up the cruise control in any way, or if I do this will my cruise control no longer work properly? The image included shows the cables I am referring to.

Keep in mind, this is not my engine. Its an image I found online, but it is the same engine as mine and has the same throttle cable.

  5. In my vehicle I have some mad belt squeak and its starting to get annoying. After a bit of research I determined that I don't have enough tension on the belts. Knowing this I looked under the hood and sure enough there pretty loose. I also noticed that there is not automatic belt tensioner's. So with this in mind, How can i adjust the tension on my belts? If anyone knows, that'd be helpful. Visual aids would also be helpful.

  6. Sounds pretty good. Ill look through that and let you know how it goes when i do it here in the next couple of weeks

Sounds like you need an FSM! (Factory Service Manual)

    Steering: http://www.nicoclub.com/manuals/Pathfinder/1998_Pathfinder/st.pdf

See ST-24 for all the torque specs.

    Suspension: http://www.nicoclub.com/manuals/Pathfinder/1998_Pathfinder/su.pdf

    See SU-10.

The instructions for each procedure are also in those chapters. For everything else: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Pathfinder/1998_Pathfinder/

For the tie-rods and ball joints, get a cheap ball joint separator. A pickle fork will work, but it's more work. Loosen the nut, but don't remove them. Put the ball joint separator on the knuckle, tighten it up, then give each knuckle a whack with a mini sledge, then tighten the BJ separator some more. They should pop right out.

If you can avoid twisting the outer tie rod off the inner tie rod, you can use it to size up the new rods and potentially avoid needing an alignment.

  7. I am soon to be replacing inner and outer tie rods as well as ball joints on my pathfinder and am in need of some torque specs. I am unable to find them anywhere and was wondering if anyone knows them from experience, or knows a source where I could find them. Any information on the topic is helpful. Also, if anyone has any tips or tricks on doing this procedure, it would be helpful.

  8. I personally bought a 24 inch light bar that is mounted in my bumper for 75$ on amazon and I've go no complaints. I also got a wiring harness for 18$ which did need a bit of modification. Honestly though for 75$ you cant go too wrong. Compared to price of some other ones I've seen out there, I could buy 6 of these for the same price.

  9. If the search function was easier to use I'd say just do a search but your literally better off to google it then let google take you back to an NPORA thread.

There have been several makers of them over the years, actually a guy just had a full set of them in parts for sale.

Fleury sells them I believe. I think he even has a missing link and skid plate combo in the works.

On the other hand making a missing link and skid plate was easier for me than it was to work the hours to pay for prefab ones.

Thanks for the help. I'll look around.

  10. I have a 1998 r50 and I am looking to upgrade the skid plate. The stock stock skid plate just isn't cutting it for me and I was wondering if anyone has gone so far as to replace it. If anyone has, do they know where I can buy one? If not has anyone made one before? And if they have, how'd you do it? The more information the better.

  11. Haven't done it, but it wouldn't be difficult. Both diffs have a barb that you just need a hose to slip over (1/4"?) and then you just route the hose to your desired location. The front diff is already route to a point above the bellhousing, behind the engine. The rear diff just runs up to a chassis reinforcement, but would be easy to bring into the cabin.

Here's an existing project, which also re-routes the transmission and t-case breathers:

That's helpful. I'll look into it. Thanks

  12. If anyone wants to know, there is a great trail comunity in waiparous, Ils about an hour away from NE calgary. Heres a map of the area.

I do have a better map, but I am unsure how to post it. so this is the best i got

  13. I am possibly looking to relocate my differential breathers into my engine bay, but I am not sure how to do it. If any one out here has done it, it would be much appreciated if you could tell me how you did it and if you were successful or not. If I do get around to doing it, I will post some pictures of it a possibly a step by step.

  14. The hoods on our trucks stick up a lot higher than a jeeps... Thank you Nissans oddly shaped engines and are loads longer... Thanks again Nissan.

I think they would be less effective than on something say a Sami, Jeep or the like.

I like the looks and they undeniably help on short nosed vehicles... But they would need to stick out awkwardly to clear a Pathy hood and I don't think it would look right.

Just my opinion, I'd mock up a set with just rope and some antenna magnets and see what your final decision is.

I'll have to do that. What I was thinking I would do is mount a plate on the inside of the fender that sticks out above the hood and slightly bend outwards and then another mounted to the door frame at the top of the window and then mount the limb riser cable to that.

  15. How'd you mount the light bar? Photos? I just mounted mine and and not 100% happy with placement.

I dont have any good pictures on my phone currently, but I'll show the one I have.

For the install I had to make L brackets of of some scrape steel I had lying around and then welded that to a cross member that runs in behind the bumper. II then had to chop up the bumper a little bit to make room the actual light bar itself. Once I did all that i could drill holes in the l brackets and mount the lightbar to them. This works really well and looks really clean in my opinion. My only problem with it is it doesn't give much room for adjustment of the ligtbar after the fact. As well I find it is a little too low to the ground. It could be more effective it it were a little higher. Overall though I really like how its done. As well in the picture you can see some of the bumper that I had to trim to make it if fit. Would recommend doing this set up for sure though. And for anyone who wants to know it is a 24" light bar.

  16. I am looking to put limb risers on my r50 pathfinder and was wondering if there is anyone out here who has done it? If there is do you have any sugestions on how to do it? Also I want to see what it looks like before I commit. Let me know if you guys have any information.

This is the veichle I am looking to instal them on.

  17. A friend and myself are located in Cochrane Alberta Canada (near Calgary if you know where that is) and we're looking for another pathfinder enthusiast who wants to hit the trails. About 30mins from my house there is a really rad trail community and I would love to show someone around. If you're at all interested hit a reply!! I'm going to include a trail map of the area I intend to wheel.

This is a image posted by the government of Alberta about trail closures that i took earlier. Its the best complete map I could find.
