so 31's don't stick out past the fenders unless you run them on different rims for instance the Chevy rims??? which is actually the question that i started the post with. 2'nd would slightly narrower tires fit better on chrome rims or will the 10.5's work on them? out of curiosity did the pathy's that came stock with 31's have the same gearing as other pathy's or was it different. sorry if I'm being repetitive i just want to make sure that i don't screw anything up.

I have Stock Chrome wheels. Where did they rub inside the wheel-wells or on the the fenders outside the wheel-well? i was thinking that if i ran slightly narrower tires that they would fall inside the wheel-wells and not hit the fender. I also want to keep a decent ride going 80mph (interstate speeds) would narrower or slightly smaller help with that ???

I haven't looked and my pathy is still in Ft Collins hopefully it will be back by the end of the week. what would the sagging mien slick. I should have said this earlier but would the narrower tires slip inside the wheel wells instead of hitting the fenders how narrow would i have to go would that be an acceptable size or would it be to narrow??? or would i be better off going to a 30 to avoid the tires hitting?

I know I am probably driving people nuts with tire questions but i have another one. I know that a stock pathy can run 31X10.5 but there are problems with rubbing on the fenders when going over bumps and can cause some body damage if the front end gets launched. so here is my question if i run 31X9 will that alleviate those problems or would i have to go down to a 30X9. thanks for your patents and help Dave S
  6. thanks for all the help I so 31's wont throw off the speedometer enough to worry about. 88 thanks for correcting me I had read ball joint angles on another post on this forum but it is not a problem unless i really crank them and I couldn't afford after market rims if i wanted them which i don't. thanks everyone for helping me I'm new to the 4 wheeling thing and i want to try to get in to it. my pathy will need new tires in a couple of months at the most anyway. Thx Dave
  7. so i can run 31's on the stock suspension and gears without any problems unless i do something stupid. 88 i thought the cranking the tbars on stock uca's screwed with the pinion angles. correct me if I'm wrong but wont that cause problems in the future. also if anyone knows how to change the gears for the speedometer that would be great thx for all the help Dave
  8. Ive got original springs and I'm sure there sagging a little would 30's by 9 hit the fenders if i launched the front end. I try not to do any thing to stupid but I'm 17 so every once in a while I end up doing something stupid and it usually involves my car so i want to try not to make it to easy to hurt my pathy.
  9. where are you taking it to get fixed???
  10. thanks for that advice slick. I really wish I had the money that i could just do that but i don't. Just a poor kid between high school and collage so if people could tell me if i have the clearance with original springs or if i need to run 30's or get a lift.
  11. I'm not entirely sure what size tires I'm going to put on it it depends if i can afford to change the gears and add a lift or not. how difficult is it to get at the gears would that involve opening up the tranny or not. But probably not that much bigger i have stock tires right now i think there about 28.5 If i cant lift it and change the gears I would probably go 30 or 31 31 by 10.5 is the biggest size i can go with out rubbing on the wheel well or frame on turns how much clearance do i have with the 31's if i launch the front end will they crush the wheel wells. thx Dave
  12. Because pathfinders have electronic speedometers would it be possible to recalibrate the speedometer for larger tires by putting a resistor or adjustable resistor on one of the speedometer wires. After looking at the factory repair manual the speed sensor looks to me like a small generator that creates more or less power according to the speed your going. i don't know exactly how the gauge in the dash converts that power from the sensor into the movement of the needle on the dash. if any electronic experts or any one that knows exactly how the system works could tell me if this would work. or better yet if anyone has tried it let me know how it worked for you or if this is a stupid idea and wont work.
  13. Yeah Cheyenne WY and how are you enjoying the wind today EL Pathfinder id hate to be on the summit today. and slick did you make that tube bumper on the 92 and how are your turn signals set up did you move them to the marker lights or what. I also really like the push bar 88 has on his pathy. thx Dave
  14. I just bought a 94 xe-v6 pathy it is almost stock but it has Warn hubs and from the evidence on the body i would suspect that it did not put on all of its 175000 miles on the road. but it is in pretty good shape. I have been driving my moms old corolla for the last 2 years so i am new to off-Roading but would like to try to get in to it. while still keeping my truck a daily driver because it is the only vehicle i have right now. i will post some pictures when my rig gets back from the shop in fort collins. i would like to start making my truck more off road worthy and was wondering what it would take to do so. it needs a lift but i don't want to get it to high because it gets jerked around by the wind enough as it is. i would also like to get a brush gaud for it but i have had trouble finding them for pathy's so any recommendations would be great. also i hate to have my speedometer off because i always for get about it and i have asked this before but how do you change the gears on the spedo cable so they will read rite with bigger tires.
  15. Hi everyone im new to this forum and i have recently purchased a 94 pathy it has warn hubs and a set of AT tires but that is about it. im in Cheyenne but im down in ft collins at least once a week and i will be going to school in gunnison this year. finally finished high school.

i thought that you still had to tap the hole with heiecoils and that they were just there to strengthen the threads

    Tire Questions

i was actualy thinking of running 30's by 8 or 9 because i dont want to risk rubing even if i do launch the front end and the springs probably have saged in there old age. if any one knows about the spedo cables that would be great thx dave

so if you have to drill out the bold you would drill a little smaller and then tap the hole for the same size and threads as the origional stud??? thx Dave
  19. id like to put bigger tires on my pathy what is the biggest that i can get away with with out lifting my truck. it is a 94 with 174,000 miles and what i believe to be stock springs and shocks. could you run stock gears and still get good performance in the hills and how difficult is it to change the spedo gears so the speedometer will read right. i need to but new tires on my pathy any way. so any recommendations for all terrain tires that will do decent in mud but good on snow and hard ground would be great i would also like to preserve a acceptable highway ride would be great. also i don't under stand the 3 digit numbers that my pathy lists for stock sizes if any one could tell me how to decipher those numbers that would be great. and where do i look to see what stock gears i have somebody mentioned a plate under the hood but i was unable to locate the gearing on any plates but i could just be blind.

thanks for the help how do you extract broken studs. also i think that the problem is a split exhaust pipe because after having Friend help me we found that the sound was under the cab and not the hood. but i will check all the studs just in case.

to fix the problem do you have to replace the manifold or just the studs and if the studs are broken how do you get them out also according to the plates under the hood of my pathy it says that i have the VG 30 engine. would this engine have the same problem and what is the difference between the two i don't have a manual and i have had my 94 for less than a week

my 1994 pathfinder ticks under acceleration when the engine is cold. but it doesn't tick at idle and only sometimes will it tick when reved with the clutch out. is this the manifolds becoming detached. if it is how easy is it to see the manifolds detaching. i had a mechanic do a quick check on the manifold but he didn't see any thing. i know that i have 2 exhaust leaks one in the muffler and one some where in the pipe I'm not sure where could these be the source of the ticking?? it sounds like its coming from some where near the front but i can only hear it when I'm driving so it could be any where.
  23. i have a 94 pathy the backup lights are out on it its not the bulbs and i don't think it is the wiring. its a stick so i think its the switch the the stick pushes on but i don't know where it is exactly or how to get at it to replace it. if someone could tell me how to replace it that would be great. Thx Dave

    What Gears

what are the stock gears in a 88 pathfinder and the stock tire size what is the biggest tire i could go to with out having to add a lift or change gearing. also what is involved in re calibrating the speedometer for the bigger tires
  25. so about 75 80k is the max that i want to let it go for before changing it ???
