I have a leaking cam shaft seal.
I have all the fru-fru off. but I can't for the life of me get the timing marks to align.
They seem to be the most asinine after thought that I can think of.
There is a finger nail scratch on the oil pump cover that I guess is the crank mark. (why wouldn't engineers make a more noticible marking.............(ARGHHH) I even read where you had to align the dizzy to number one, and then stamp your own Crank mark???????
There are 2 raised dimples on the rear timing belt cover.
The Distributor has a raised Pimple, but that is about 1/4 of an inch from where the Plug wire is.
I have rotated the engine at least 50 times, and I can never get all the marks to agree.
I have removed the plugs and have the number one piston fully up, but the marks are off, if I align it for the left the right is off by at least a tooth. Conversely opposite if I align it to the right cam.
I never worried about the belt marks as it has been replaced by a gates, and I don't know if the original owners had it replaced by Nissan, or a shop.
I just need a little guidance on getting all the marks to agree, I would assume that some belt stretch has occurred, but I wouldn't think that it would of stretched so much that I couldn't split the difference.
I have the Digital version of the oem manual, and the haynes, both show the marks, but for the life of me I can't get them all to agree.... I do know that when I get the thing right,,, I am peening good marks....
Just need some guidance, and am venting a wee bit.
This PF has been through 2 daughters, and a son.... a couple of fender benders that I had to cut and weld body panels for and door replacement....
(Long time VW Diesel/Cabriolet owner/mech.) I thought VW had their engineering issues..not the current cheating kind. At least the marks were there for eternity.
Thanks
Briano.
