  1. I have a 1987 Pathy with the VG30 and auto trans. Here is the background to fill you in. I installed new heads and timing belt. Everything went OK and when finished she fired up ran like a top again. Drove it to work the next day and ran perfect going to work. Coming home it started back firing, low power and shutting off at stop lights/signs. Performed the following checks as all forums indicate its the AB valve. Checked the valve and it is good. Checked compression and its between 155-148 lbs so that is in specs. Vacuum gage indicates valve timing. Pulled cover on belt and checked marks they are where they are supposed to be. Replaced vacuum lines to make sure no leaks. Have not checked PCV valve yet. The factory manuel indicates there is a V.C.V. Vacuum control valve in the bottom of the throttle body but no indication of how to check it. Vacuum gage flutters between 22-14 inches which indicates like I stated valve timing. When I check codes on the computer it gives me a code 44 which indicates all electrical components of system are working correctly. It will rev well over 2800 rpm on highway driving home so is not in limp in mode and new injectors were installed less than 6K ago. It has new distributor cap and rotor as well as ignition wires and new spark plugs. Anyone have a clue as to what I am overlooking? Been wrenching for over 60 years now and this one at the moment has me stumped. I know its going to be something simple, right?
