  1. Hi Jtchal , To answer your question about coils , in my opinion this is one of the best mods you can do for your Pathfinder as the stock coils are very soft (lots of body roll and dont load it up with cargo type thing ). My very first mod was to change the coils and the way it drive / handle improved a lot . Yes firmer drive but better handling any day anywhere. Some times i tow my caravan ( tow ball weight about 150-180 kg) and my car is straight not like accelerating speed boat. When i go camping without caravan is the car always loaded to the top and is nice and straight no mater how much you loaded. After 7 years of using the car ( with the lift ) i never had the feeling that i need it more rigidity from my suspension. I install the 35 mm King spring coils about 7 years ago and added the 1 inch coil spacers from SFcreations after. Good luck with your purchase... After i install free wheeling hubs occasionally the orange 4wd light came on ( mainly after more the one hour drive on highway ) flashing that is ... Last year i install front lokka and now when the light comes on is not flashing but staying on until you restart the vehicle, again like everyone else reports no other faults comes with it. last week i went on a 1200 km trip to shark bay and on the way there the light came on about 2- 3 times . After lots of 4 wheel driving there for tree days i came home and on the way back the light never came on and i drove the 1300 km in one hit driving all day , so go figure??? All the best ...
  2. I think that the IAC valve suggestion sound interesting .I my self had experienced likewise scenario with IAC valve when i was changing the stock intake (at the same time removing LPG system of my car) to little more free flowing ducting .I tapped the IAC straight of the airbox ( i was not sure if the air was metered or not thrue the MAF) and the idle was surging badly , until i tapped into the intake ducting. I also have removed to clean IAC valve from 1mz engine and the valve had build up carbon crust and was preventing it from rotating properly. If it was me that's what i would have done try to clean it first mayde even with contact cleaner (electric circuit solvent cleaner) straight into the intake manifold or the better way remove and clean the valve. Unfortunately i have never worked on VQ engine and cannot specify the exact removal procedure. If you can advance your timing to 14 it is defenetly worth it. Good luck
  3. Hi , How is the engine behaving under load / acceleration ? Just wondering if it is the same surging , this will indicate if it is possible fuel delivery issue.
  4. Hi , I don't know if you have sorted your problem out and if i'm of topic , but i still like to suggest one more check you can do. It is about sufficient cooling efficiency of your radiator. Old or to some degree corroded radiators (i don't know if yours is new ) can block up and loos cooling efficiency and your fan could be forced to run to cool engine as heat is not dissipate adequately thru the radiator. If you have infra red thermometer check the temp near the top radiator hose and then near the bottom radiator hose as this is the hottest and the coldest point on your radiator and this should give an indication if your radiator is cooling. Best of luck
  5. Hello , my name is Vasco (acrobaat). I have owned my Nissan Pathfinder r50 vg33e 2004 for 7 years now. I have enjoyed driving some good tracks and more fun stuff in this comfortable 4x4. However ever sins a bought a small caravan I found out that Auto transmission low compression ratio engine and a heavy SUV thus not seem to be a very capable towing vehicle unless you keep the revs up,but that is my personal opinion. And so it started ,some times you just want a little bit more and i install my first mod extractors/headers and it did make a little bit of a difference , and then you want a little bit more, and i made a stainless exhaust + flowmaster mufler ( with out cats).Well that was quite disappointing to be honest, because even if i have done my home work well and dit not go to large( it was 2" to 2.5" )the bottom end torque suffered a lot more than expected ( not much happened until 2500 rpm and fuel consumption went really bad). After that i install high lift cams in (Jim Wolf s1) that made huge difference with the exhaust , the fuel consumption was little bit better (still worse than stock) but if you plant your foot to the floor you cannot recognise the car at around 4000 rpm it roars and want to go (great sensation out of a sleepy Pathfinder) Running without cats smells a lot like unburned fuel and also prickles in your eyes if you are walking next to idling car so i got myself a set of high flowing cats. I was not so happy with fuel consumption and fitted the stock exhaust back with high flow cats. And the roar died instantly , gained a little bit of bottom end torque and lost quit a bit of hp at top end ( that is how it feels), fuel consumption a little better than before. Not long ago a install Trans - go shift kit on the valve body and i was very surprised to see how such a cheap mod made made noticeable difference especially when you travel on locked up torque converter. It used to bother me allot when you hit the first little hill and the immediately will unlock the T/C now instead it is holding it locket up much longer climbing up those hills(I have not towed the caravan yet but it would be much better) In proses of installing a second tranny cooler with a thermo fan with manual switch ( i have installed a temp gage and can monitor atf temperature ) Next BIG challenge is installing programmable ecu or piggy back stile ecu. It is on its way from USA and should be here in Australia next week. It is the Mega Squirt 2 unit , I have never done this before so it is going to be interesting... And if everything go's to plan installing a turbo charger after the ecu will be the next thing to do. I'm not sure how you are supposed to introduce your self in a forum (this is my first subscription ever) so i just let my passion for Pathfinders taking over....
