  1. RC Cola - My rig is a Canadian model also so I will definitely check the sensor. I haven't gotten a code reader on it yet, but that is next. I'll get back to you on that front. Thank you for the help.
  2. Dbolt - Did you find what the problem was? I just had my 97 out on the beach and the same thing happened. My son was driving he didn't mention the "poof" sound, but died while driving and then would not restart. It has spark and the engine cranks, same as yours. Thanks for any suggestions!
  3. I recently had a no start after shut down. replaced the distributer thanks to suggestions here. Worked great. Had it out on the beach yesterday, nothing too aggressive, but it just shut down. Luckily I got it towed away from the incoming tide, then got my truck and towed it home. Still can't get it to start. It has spark and I can smell fuel. Has anyone had a similar issue? Starter cranks engine so I don't think it is catastrophic.
  4. Old-timer, Thanks for the info. You verified what I thought was going to be the issue. Thanks for the great document also. I could have ruled out the security system a lot sooner if I had this. I guess I can stop looking for the security reset now also. Looks like I need a new distributor in addition to the battery. At least the entire coil system is in the distributor. Just a mad coincidence Thanks again.
  5. I had to replace a bad battery after jump starting running it and moving it to my garage. Replaced battery now the engine cranks but does not start. I checked all of the ignition trouble shooting and all seems to be good, just no spark. It has a factory installed security system. Is there any way check if the security system is interrupting the ignition system? Or am I missing something obvious. Vehicle ran fine and started on first crank every time before the battery went south.
  6. Thanks for the advice on all. I took a few more pieces off the PCV and was able to move the A/C line just a bit more. The top cover was tweaked so it formed it back and replaced. problem solved. Vehicle is back up and running, no issues..
  7. Thanks, I thought I may need to take it back out but it was such a pain to get past the AC line.. I couldn't get it to seat the first time and tried to draw it in with the bolts, no go. Thank for the reply
  8. I am in the middle of a timing belt replacement and am putting he cover back on. I cannot get the top cover to seal on the right hand upper. There is a sizeable gap after replacing all bolts. I can see the cam sprocket from the top of the engine. is it possible that it is stuck on something between the front and rear cover plates? I don't see anything but the gap remains between the upper far right bolt and the bolt near the A/C compressor. Any ideas?
