I think my motor mounts and transmission mounts are bad. The engine did jump a bit on the drivers side, and there is a loud sound driving down the road a bumpy dirt road. I have heard you have to disconnect the differential to get to the motor mounts, so i think I want to send it to a shop for that. But i think I can replace tranny mount. But i am having trouble finding it. It is prob somewhere pretty easy, but I have looked at some diagrams and cant seem to find it. I am not a mechanic by far, but would like to save some money, I have a 99 pathy w/ manual transmission.

Hello reading your post, have the same issue with my pathy. Did you get things resolved, what was the issue? -
When to say goodbye-- 1999.5 SE 3.3L 4WD w 158K miles
sunovertone replied to EvF's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I just purchased a 1999 pathy for $5200. from dealer, 197, 000 miles. Sounds like you already have put a lot into it, and to me what you have to do is mostly mantainance, Like tires, and sparkplugs, and such. I would think that any car you buy your going to have to do most of all those things to it anyway, unless it is brand new, and even so, there are still things like that coming up sometime anyway.Since you changed your timing belt allready, I would say get your drive time from it! I am not a mechanic, but i would say keep it. -
That sounds like a good posibility! I will check the motor mounts.

OK, so I have been enjoying driving my pathy around, seems to be driving well. However in the 2nd and 3rd gears on my mannual transmission, is a jangling type noise, not quite shure how to describe it. its not a grinding, more of a jangle. does not happen in 1st or 3rd or 5th, that i have noticed. I just bought this car and hope this isnt a sign of a rebuid. any info would be great!

Will not shift into four low! I have another post about it.
-
I was just about to post the new news I discovered, It seems it only happens upon excelaration! Seems smooth the rest of the time, and mostly in second, but a little in third, but fourth and fifth perfect! A little tough shifting into 3rd sometimes.
-
Ok, I will try that!
-
yep, definitely in neutral
-
Yep, tried so many times, I pushed the shifter all the way down, towards floor and then towards seats, but all it does is go into neutral .Then stops, and can not get it to go back any farther.
-
So, my 4wd will not shift into four low. 4 high is fine, neutral works, 2wd fine, light goes on and off in both, but will not engage 4L. I have searched the forum for other post and not finding any. Maybe not entering right, or maybe not to common to have problems with 4wd. I have tried a number of times. Tried rolling forward, made shure i am in neutral with other shifter. Tried with car on and off, no go. I also have a post about how the car "bumps and kicks" in second gear. It is fine not to have four low now, but come winter it would be nice! Also this car is a manual trans. 1999 pathfinder.

It does seem random and does not appear to have any movement in transfer case shifter. The engine is running well, no probs there. I will look underneath and see if i can see anything dragging. I know I might be contradicting here, but it is somewhat random, but also sometimes in sync with spinning it seemed?? Very strange, changes gears just fine, only happens traveling down the road. I just changed my distributor out, myself, without a timming gun or anything, could that have upset the timing, or anything to do with the issue? But the engine sound fine...just the trans...perplexing. I hope its not runing the gear teeth or something.
-
Oh sorry, Manual
-
So, I just fixed my distributor, got my PF running, everything sounds good, except when driving around in second gear, when I have my hand on the shifter, it feels like something is kicking the gear shifter... randomly. I really hope this doesn't indicate future problems with the tran! It shifts fine, stays in gear, doesn't make the noise in first gear. It has plenty of power and shifts and engages in every gear. Any ideas? I do live on a dirt road, but i don't think i would feel the bumps in the shifter like that...?
-
HURRAY! Change distributor and fired right up no prob! Runnin it all around the mountian, feels strong! Timming seems fine, did not use a timing light, just followed u tube advice, and she is good to go! Got the dizzy at auto zone, with life time warrenty! It did look like it had a bit of whare on the "gear teeth", I hope that isnt anything to be concerned about??? Thankyou for all the good info! Happy to be finding the path again!

Cool! Finally got a new distributor! Going to attempt to replace it tonight!

New nissan 1999 pathy... good car?
sunovertone replied to sunovertone's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Thanks again for all the great info! I am not sure when the timing belt was last replaced and definitely plan to have that done! Glad U all think it should be a good rig! It is fun to drive! -
Sorry no up dates, we have to get the funds, and then we replace the distributor. We will test the fuel system with some starte fluid first, that should tell s if it is getting spark or timming. Just ran out of my timing for the time being. But if we cant get it withth distributor, and egnition relays, then it goes to the shop! Man my mechanic is going to be shocked not to see the old jeep!

Hello,I just purchased a 1999 nissan pathfinder. What are some of the dead give aways that it is a good car or a bad car. There is very little rust, pretty clean, but has about 200'000 miles on it. It doesnt seem to be leaking oil now, may have in the past. Drove it home, seem to have plenty of power, no strange noises, have been driving it up and down dirt roads with ease. Is there any dead give away it might have serious problems anytime soon, or that it may be a lemon?
-
Just got the code by itself. I am glad it doesnt sound to serious, but it does sound difficult to repalce.
-
I did do a search on the forum, not much came up. But with what I could find, it doesnt sound like a super serious prob. It would be good to get better mpg though!

While trying to figure out why my nissan would not start, it threw a Knock Censor code. I have heard it is an expensive and difficult censor to replace. Before it didnt start ( working on it) the pathy ran fine. Does the knock sensor code mean there is something seriously wrong with the engine? It is a new car to me, and a bit unfamiliar. What is a knock censor, and what could it mean is wrong.
-
We have checked the codes. the only one it gave us referred to knock censor. I am not sure if knock censor is the same as the crank angle sensor? But didnt get a code for crank angle censor, but i will check again. I have checked the fuses, they look good, but I will check the ignition relays. I am also suspecting the grounds, but I thought if it was the grounds, it would not even crank. I am not sure how to test the coil, I am not very happy with the spark tester I have, it is a light and can not see the actual spark. But the car is about ready to just go to the shop, but i might just try to change the whole distributor first.

Ok, sorry wont post like that again. New to forums, in general. But also to this forum, which i am greatful for. Just wanted to add a bit more info as well. Thankyou for all the info, I will check if rotor is spinning when started. I do really like the nissan, drives great when it started. But I do miss the simplicity of the jeep in line six. I am just hopeful it is not a head gasket, but it doesnt seem like it. no oil in radator, no bubbles in radator, runs cool on gage, oil doesnt seem milky. But there is a lot of oil all over bottom of engine, looks like it came from valve cover leak at one point, but no leaks now. Looks loke it may have been fixed.
