I did find that Dorman makes a few fans also, but have not been able to verify which is the correct one. Their website doesn't say they have one, but Amazon does. There seems to be a lot of confusion out there about what fits the 3.3, 3.5, and 4.0. Many of the reviews said that the "right" fan did not actually fit. $650 seems like a pretty good deal. However, I'll DIY mine. It'll make it easier to freshen up anything else that needs doing. I know the VC gaskets are leaking. Might as well take care of that while I'm in there.

Well, I've had my new ride long enough to start getting to know her, and now I have a few questions.
1) What's the best way to change the rear main seal? Engine pull or tranny pull? I knew it was "seeping" (according to the seller) when I bought it, but it's a little more than a seep. I don't have a lift, so I'm leaning toward pulling the engine. That will also allow me to do the VC gaskets easier, as well as whatever else I run into.
2) Is this bad? (See pic.) Where is the best place to buy a replacement fan?
Other than that and a little rust, she seems to be pretty solid. So far I'm very happy with this truck. I'm looking forward to getting out and into the mountains this summer.

Where in FL are you? I'll be in FL next week, and can stop by the JY this weekend. They've got 2 '01's and and 1 '04 there. What is your budget?

Nice work. Got any pics of your install? Mine has steps on it now, but I would really, really like these instead.

And bringing this back from the dead! So, I got a job a while ago that required me to have a car that got good gas mileage. So I never did buy that Pathy. However, that job is now gone and it's time for me to have a little fun. I just bought a 2002 LE (I think) with like every bell and whistle you could want. It's got leather, power everything (including seats), sun roof, etc, etc. All I need now is a trailer hitch and a little lift. I may do hubs too, since 4WD will really only be needed in the snow. Pics to come when it's not so dark out.

Look to see if you can cannibalize a mounting kit from both your car and one from a mid 90's Chevy s-10. Because delco radios were so shallow, the install kits for aftermarket radios pushed the radio out about 3/4"

Uh, that made me throw up a little. I can appreciate the work that went into it, but it is still ugly. I feel bad for the guy that had to work on that. It wasn't a pretty car to start with, but now it's just worse.
-
Something else to think about is silicone hoses meant for ricer intercoolers. What diameter would you need to connect to the TB? Could/would you cannibalize the stock intake?
-
There are more than a few ways to do this. I would personally start at the fuse. First make sure the fuse doesn't control anything other than the windows. Next, use a meter to find out which side of the fuse holder has power all the time and which is going to windows. Last, pull the fuse block and cut the wire going to the inlet side of the fuse. Cap off the wire going to the fuse holder. Connect a 12v constant wire to the wire coming from the fuse holder. It seems like a lot of work just to make it so you don't need to grab your keys to put down the windows though.

Consistent compression #'s are a good start. A bad WP would be a much better option, and there seems to be some evidence it can cause the problem you have. I say replace the intake gaskets anyway and replace the WP. For as bad as yours is leaking, you should know right away if the WP is bad (once you get it off).

Is there a build thread I can check out, I'm really interested!
www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f145/h6-into-my-sf-70682/
For some reason I can't post a link in the body of a post, but I can in a quote? Weird. Have a fun read; it went on for quite a few months. And yes, I did cut the core support out to get the rad. in there. Don't worry though, I put it back in. I made it bolt-in like on an S-10. And for all you guys that think Subaru has a hard time off road... click on the second link. I've been wheeling with this guy. We passed a few Jeeps on the trails that wouldn't go where we went. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I could probably do these things in a pathy too, but I did them in a STATION WAGON!
Now someone do some measuring and see if it will fit! I'm not afraid of a little cutting and welding. A V8 Pathy would be a blast. My first question would be will it bolt to the stock tranny. That simplifies things quite a bit. (It did in a Subaru;))

Wow, I touched a nerve. Most people who don't like Subarus REALLY don't like Subarus. I don't know why, but it seems to be the case. IDK if it's the hatred for WRX owners, idiot kids in general, or the fact that Subaru owners are soooooo fanatical. I honestly don't really even care. I bought my first one because I wanted to go off-road and couldn't afford a jeep. Now, I'm trying to get mine in good enough condition to sell so I can buy a Pathy (because I still can't afford a Jeep). Oh, and that was swapped into a Forester, not a leggy. Now to the important question; would the V8 fit in a Pathy? Will it bolt up to the tranny? Is this a do-able swap? Anyone want to gimme enough money to prove it is do-able?
And FWIW, my butt doesn't hurt. A bit of good natured teasing about cars.. on a car forum.. is okay with me.

That is an EG33 out of an SVX. That is the only car that got that motor. It is essentially the EJ22 that subby used for many years, and considered the best (most bullet proof and least likely to blow HG's) motor they ever made, with 2 more cylinders. All EZ motors (EZ30D and EZ30Z) had a timing chain. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...... FWIW, it was a fun car to drive. WRX power with torque just off idle.
-
It's not that hard. I added 2 cylinders to my Subaru.
-
So wait, the rear ABS is controlled by a sensor on the driveshaft and not sensors at each wheel? What's the point in that? I think I'd just ditch ABS.
-
If you haven't started it up yet, you may get away with replacing the HG's and flushing out the motor. First thing I would do is drain it out and get some engine flush in it, just to get the coolant off the bearings if nothing else. Are you planning on trying to save it or just replace it?

Thanks to my Subaru, I've been buying A LOT of parts lately. I always check for the best price (and I include rockauto in my research), but have yet to find enough of a savings to warrant waiting for the part. With a couple of minutes of googling, you can generally find a 25%-40% off coupon for Advance or AutoZone. Buy online for the discount and pick up in store. You get the price savings of online with the support of a brick-n-mortar store. I used to be loyal to Advance (I used to mange one of their stores), but they have lost that loyalty due to their quality of their hard parts falling. (Yes, I realize that my bargain hunting is partly the cause of this deteriorating quality.) I miss the days when everyone sold A1-Cardone...

You're on the right track though. If tightening them worked for a while, then your issue is most likely in the same spot as last time. Pull it out again, but this time remove, clean, sand, or just rub the mating points of the screw. Do one at a time.

D50, R50, ah close enough. Yes, R50. I've found a few in my price range, so I'm pretty confident I can find a good one. Now I just need to get to replacing my wheel bearing...

Hello forum members! I'm a long time gearhead and experienced forum member. For the last five or so years, I've been messing around with Subaru Foresters. Butttttt, I think it's time for a change. I've been doing a little bit a research and I believe a D50 will be my next toy. We will see how things go though. I've got a few things left to do to my Fozzy before I can sell it, so it may be a little while before I'm able to buy. Now I shall hit the "search" button.

02 with 224K miles. RMS is leaking, but otherwise runs like a top. It's an absolute pleasure to drive.
