  2. Well I pulled the right rocker cover off today and the gasket was in three different pieces. No wonder it was leaking so bad smh. Also I pulled the 1st plug (after a good long soak of first engine degreaser and then pb blaster and that daggum thing is the origional spark plug and after 180k there is literally nothing left. I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Well I found the source of the oil leak, it was the rocker cover like you said so I cleaned all the gunk off of it and backed the screws out a little and reseated 'em nice and tight.... still pouring oil when the vehicles on. So I'm going to be pulling it off tomorrow and replacing the gasket to see if that will make it stop. Right now it looks like it's all coming from the passenger side but common sense tells me to go ahead and replace the other one too but dang it if I don't want to have to pull that intake manifold thingamabob off the top in order to get to driver side one. :suicide:

  4. Whoops I knew that, slip of the tongue (slip of the finger?). And I completely forgot about updating my info, I'll get that fixed in a bit. Thanks for the info about the recall, I'll look into it since I'm on the gulf coast.

  5. Wow, nice buy Bro.  It sounds like you've got some work ahead of you but if you're up to it (I wouldn't be, I don't know how to do any of that stuff you mentioned) You're going to have a nice vehicle for years to come.  It's straight, looks good, doesn't look like any accidents, interior?

Yeah, I've decided to do all my own work to save money and to gain experience but I wouldn't be able to get even half of this stuff done with out my dads know how.

And the whole truck is in really good shape, no evidence of any wrecks, clean original title, no week spots in the frame that I can tell. And the interior is clean, only a small rip in the edge of the divers seat. To be honest I think the previous owner just used it as a mall crawler and did pretty routine maintenance up until the oil leak showed up, so it hasn't had a hard life at all.

  6. Well I bought it this morning, it's a '97 4x4 with a standard transmission and 180k on the clock. I payed 2k for it and this is how it sits right now, bone stock.

First thing that needs to be done is replacing both the U-joints, which I'll be doing monday when the scrap yard opens. Next the CV axle assembly needs to be replaced on both sides, and then find out where the oil is leaking from and get that fixed, at first it looked like it was the rear engine seal was bad but now I'm thinking it's coming from the T-case. I'll be looking deeper into that later today. Unless anything else that's hiding right now shows up then that should bring it back to being fully mechanically sound.

  7. Thanks for your help! I'm going to be meeting with the guy first thing tomorrow and if I can talk him down to a reasonable price then I'll be driving it home. I'll keep ya updated!

  8. I won't be using it for anything major, just playing around off road and utility driving since my DD is a car. My problem is no one wants to sell their wd21 and when they do it's a POS. I'm willing to travel a little but haven't been able to find anything within my range for a while. Also being a newer model and probably being more computerized will it be harder to do the work on it myself? And is the towing capability as good as a wd21? What about its crawling ability? And you said an R50 is plenty capable off road?

  9. Okay so I had a 95 Pathy that I bought a month or so ago kind of on impulse because it was the first wd21 I had seen in this area in forever, turned out to be a much bigger problem than we had first thought and I had to sell it because with my limited time and recourses there was no way I would be able to fix it. So now I'm looking for a new one. In my area there is a distinct lack of wd21's available, I've found an R50 that I might be able to get at a reasonable price, and shouldn't be terrible to fix up it just basically needs a engine rebuild and it should be back to stock. My thing is, I am emotionally attached to the wd21 model but I'm considering a R50 because they are more readily available. Also almost all of my experience with these trucks is with the wd21, all I know about the R50 is that it went to a unibody design. Can any body tell me what where the major upgrades or downgrades when Nissan released the new model? Also do you think I should bide my time and wait for a first generation to show up (if it ever does) or will another model suit me just fine? Thanks, and sorry for my rambling.

HOLY CRAP I never knew they could float! :lmao:

Seriously though that's pretty awesome, I have trouble getting that much air with my 4wheeler.

  11. I let mine sit for months at a time, and every time it fires without a hiccup.

That's something that can't be said for everything.

Yeah I had a '93 dodge ram that I bought from my uncle for a dollar (he had no plans to sell it to anyone and it just sat there so when I asked him he was like "why the hell not") and once we got it fixed I drove it for a while but it got like single digits in gas mileage so we let it sit and about a month later we couldn't get the thing to turn over no matter what we did. Ended up selling it to a scrap guy for 500 so I think it all worked out B)

  12. There are a lot of people who lurk on this site, some of them for years. Also, I think Guests can view threads in that section as well.

Hahaha I have to admit I lurked around as a guest for a week or two before I signed up. Wanted to see what the community was like, and..... :itsallgood:

  13. Don't ever apologize or make concessions for being yourself or presenting an idea that you deem valid. Even if in the back of your mind you're starting to have doubts about it, don't let others see that from you. If you feel you made a mistake, don't announce it or say anything, just don't continue to push the subject (life goes on); but don't apologize when you've done nothing wrong. All that does is open the door for others to abuse and take advantage of you.

And if someone does criticize you and you DO feel a 100%, stand on it dude, do not let someone else flame you out when you know you're in the right and NEVER give in to those assholes that just try to push you around. The worst thing you can do is apologize when they are the ones who don't even know what they're talking about and no ground, not a leg to stand on. Of course there are times when a more mature, more experienced person may correct you in something, and in that instance yes, of course you should defer to their wisdom, hell I've had some of those things happen to me on here but that's cuz I'm hard headed but I know the difference between a jerk and a wiser man than myself.

Stand up for what you believe and I promise you others will flock to support you. These times we're living in, everyone is dying for a thread, an ounce of Leadership and when they see it, it's an undeniable positive force that people are compelled to uphold.

Oh no I was raised to always stand up for myself and to never back down when I know I am right, however as the new kid on the block I felt it would be best to just respectfully back out of the conversation than start an argument with people more senior in years than me as well as more senior members on this forum. (Wasn't sure how the warning points systems work. For the most part people on here seem to be respectable but you never know.) I guess saying that I "concede defeat" was probably not the best choice of words, but oh well it's all behind us now.

  14. That wasn't directly geared towards you, at the time of that post there had been like 50 something people that looked at this thread and only two had commented, you and someone else, and like the other guy said I thought this thread was over. So I just decided to bow out than to sit and try and argue my case or bring life back to the thread.

And I wouldn't ever try and do it in my truck either even though I saw it happen personally. But I appreciate and accept you're apology, it gets hard sometimes to convey your actual emotion through the words you type on a computer and things tend to come across wrong.

But hey for being a 20 year old vehicle that can still reliably get you and your family into and then OUT of some $h!t you'd never think it could, I think thats pretty amazing. Still though, I think a Pathy is one of those rare vehicles that is able to do whatever you ask of it; whether it's towing a fully loaded semi up an off ramp or taking you to the lake to spend some quality time with your family.

  15. A teacher at a local elementary school has one that's got a lift kit and is sitting on some pretty big and aggressive looking A/T's. I've always wondered what exactly it was, looks like it would be a pretty fun thing to drive.

  16. I think that you are trying to provide us peons a link to the private admin/mod forum. It tells me that I don't have permission to view that thread.

 I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't have permission to look at it.

  17. I wasn't trying to start a "one up the last person" thread.... I can't believe no one on here has seen a Pathy do some crazy shiz. Another example would be that video of the dude driving his Pathy into and over piles of logs, rocks, and other cars and the beast continually getting back up and asking for more. The amount of abuse that thing took and then kept running during that video I would have never thought would have been possible but a Pathfinder did it.

Oh well, I bow my head and concede defeat. Peace.
