Here are some rules i need to stick to
CLASS 7 Four Wheel Drive (Production) - Vehicles with engines up to 6000cc For more detailed and specific information consult Specific Requirements of Off Road Vehicles in Section 12 of the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport. For detailed requirements of the General Requirements click here.
BODY Bumper bar may be replaced with a bullbar. Flare/wheel arch extensions permitted. Roof vents may be fitted in the forward third of the roof Internal accessories are free providing they don't affect the mechanical performance of the engine, steering, transmission, road holding or braking.
BRAKES Original braking system to be retained unmodified except for the composition of the brake pads/linings and the addition of power assistance.
CHASSIS Original chassis must be retained. Strengthening may be added. Material may be added to enable the addition of dampers
ENGINE Original engine block may not be changed. Cylinder bore may be increased to largest oversize piston available. Planing of the cylinder block is allowed. Pistons, piston rings, gudgeon pins and securing mechanisms are free. Original crankshaft and connecting rods must be retained. Material may be removed from the original flywheel. Sump, filter, cooler and all lines are free. The carburettor and linkages are free. A carburettor adaptor plate may be fitted Air filter and associated fittings are free. The exhaust system is free. Camshafts are free. Engine mounts are free. Fuel pumps are free but may not be in the passenger compartment. Fuel lines and fuel filters are free. Anti-pollution equipment may be removed. Fans are free. Radiators are free Ancillary belts and pulleys outside the engine are free. The thermostat is free. If the vehicle is originally fitted with a turbocharger or supercharger the induction pressure is free. Fuel injection systems may be modified subject to SR 7.5 Fuel injection cannot be retrofitted unless available for that model. Valves, valve springs and guides are free.
FINAL DRIVE Ratios must be as available from the manufacturer. Diff action is free. Diff and transfer case must be capable of driving all four wheels.
FUEL TANK Fuel tank type, location and capacity is free. A fuel tank must be separated from the occupants by a flame and liquid proof bulkhead.
GEARBOX Clutch lining material is free. Oil cooler and pump may be added. Mounts are free. Original housing and configuration must be retained. Ratios must be as available from the manufacturer.
GENERAL Nuts, bolts and screws may be replaced by other types. Gaskets are free. Make and material of bearings are free provided they are of original type and dimension. Oil, water and brake lines are free. Lines passing through bulkhead must be grommeted. Relays and fuses may be added. Electrical cable is free. Make and capacity of the battery is free. Capacity of the alternator is free. Nominal voltage of the original electrical system must be retained. Ignition components are free providing the original system is retained. Electronic ignition may be fitted.
INTERIOR Interior trim, seats and floor coverings are free. Instruments may be added. The steering wheel is free.
ROLL CAGE Must have a roll cage as specified in Appendix J.
SUSPENSION One additional shock absorber per wheel may be added. Original shock and mounting may be moved only to permit fitment of additional shock absorber. Shock absorber or mount may not protrude through body panels. Suspension and spring mounting points may be strengthened. All suspension components may be strengthened. Spring hangers and shackles may not be reversed or lengthened. Springs are free but must be of original type, i.e. coil, torsion bar, leaf. Spring mounts must be retained in their original position.
WHEELS Wheels are free subject a maximum width of 8".

General Requirements for All Vehicles For more detailed and specific information consult General Requirements for Off Road Vehicles in Section 12 of the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport. BATTERY/BATTERY MARKER The battery must be securely attached to the body or chassis so it cannot move in the event of sudden stopping or a rollover. A 150mm blue triangular Battery Marker indicating the location of the battery or isolation switch shall be attached to the outside of the vehicle. BONNET A rear hinged bonnet must have two independent systems of holding it closed. BRAKES Brakes controlled by a foot pedal must operate simultaneously on four wheels. An operable an effective handbrake is compulsory. CARGO No loose cargo. DRIVE TRAIN Driveshafts The vehicle must be fitted with a device to prevent any driveshaft from striking the ground in the event of breakage. Reverse Gear Reverse gear must be operable. EXHAUST The exhaust system must be include a muffler, be secure and operate efficiently. The exhaust must be a minimum of 100mm from the ground. The exhaust must vent from the rear half of the vehicle. The maximum noise emission from any vehicle is 95dB(A). FUEL/FUEL TANK/FUEL FITTINGS Fuel Only Commercial Fuel as defined in Appendix G of the CAMS Manual may be used. AvGas, Leaded Racing Fuel and similar is prohibited. Fuel Tank/Fuel Containers Fuel tanks must be fitted with a leak proof filler cap. Fuel tanks must be vented to the atmosphere outside the vehicle. For further information on the construction of the fuel tank consult GR5 Off Road Vehicles in the CAMS Manual. There is no restriction on the capacity of the fuel tank. An auxiliary fuel tank may be fitted to the vehicle. If this tank is located in the interior of the vehicle it must be separated from the occupants by a firewall. See GR2 Off Road Vehicles in the CAMS Manual. Fuel containers (whether approved or not) shall not be carried. Fuel Fittings Fuel lines and hoses passing through the driver/passenger compartment must be made of metal or braided neoprene. FIRE EXTINGUISHER A Fire Extinguisher must be securely mounted to the vehicle and meet the following minimum specifications . AS1841 or AS1846 or AS1848 Minimum 1.1kg Dry Powder. BCF Fire Extinguishers are not permitted. GPS A GPS may not be used. HORN A horn must be fitted and be operational. The horn may be capable of being operated by the Co-Driver. Air horns may replace the standard horn. LIGHTING Each vehicle must be fitted with a rear facing, red stop lamp that can be operated only by the foot brake. Each vehicle must be fitted with a rear facing, amber/orange lamp that operates at all time the vehicle's ignition is switched on and be located not lower than 200mm from the high point of the vehicle. Each vehicle must have at least one headlamp that must be activated when overtaking. For more detailed information on the size and power of the lights see GR24 Off Road Vehicles in the CAMS Manual. NUMBERS The first digit of the competition number shall denote the Class in which the vehicle is competing. The number must be displayed on a vertical panel, not below the level of the roof at its highest point, that can be read from either side of the vehicle or in other locations as approved by the Chief Scrutineer (e.g. centrally on each door). The competition number must be displayed at the rear of the vehicle. The number shall be black on a white background and be not less than 150mm high, be non slanting and naturally spaced with a 19mm stroke width. OIL LEAKS No major oil leaks. REAR VISION Minimum of two rear view mirrors that provide an unobstructed view to the rear of the vehicle for the driver. RECOVERY/EMERGENCY First Aid Kit Each vehicle must carry an approved weatherproof first aid kit . Click here a for listing of the minimum requirements. Jack Minimum requirement is the jack supplied by the manufacturer. The jack and jack handle must be securely stowed so it cannot move in the event of sudden stopping or a rollover. A jacking board is recommended but not mandatory. Recovery Points A minimum of one recovery point must be fitted to the front and rear of the vehicle, colored bright red. The recovery points must readily accessible. The eye of the recovery point must have a minimum internal diameter of 40mm. Warning Triangle Each vehicle must carry a standard warning triangle of 200mm sides that must be deployed behind the vehicle in case of a breakdown. ROLL OVER PROTECTION Each Class 5, 7 or 8 vehicle must be fitted with a roll cage as specified in Schedule J of the CAMS Manual. Different specifications apply to other Classes - see GR9. The roll cage must be at least 50mm above the occupant's helmet at the top of the main hoop. Any portion of the roll cage that could come into contact with the helmet of a competitor must be padded. Click here for more information about roll cages. SEATS Minimum width of seat is 350mm. Each seat must have a head restraint. See GR12 Off Road Vehicles in the CAMS Manual for more detailed requirements. SEAT BELTS Each vehicle must be fitted with a full harness seat belt complying with the requirements of Schedule I for each occupant. A crotch restraint which effectively prevents the lap belt from riding up the wearer's body must be fitted. Click here for further information about seatbelts. STEERING Steering column locks on any vehicle not registered for use on public roads must be removed or rendered inoperable. WINDOWS/WINDSCREEN Windows Window glass may be removed and/or replaced by other material that is clear, transparent and free of coloring. Windows must be capable of being lowered a least on third of their area. Windscreen The windscreen must have windscreen washers and an effective windscreen wiper in the driver's line of vision. RADIO, UHF/INTERCOM A two way radio is highly recommended but not mandatory. An intercom between competitors is permitted. TOOL KIT A Tool Kit must be carried and securely stowed so it cannot move in the event of sudden stopping or a rollover. WHEELS/TYRES/MUDFLAPS Wheels Wire spoke wheels are not permitted. Tyres Each tyre valve must have a metal dust cap. See GR28 Off Road Vehicles in the CAMS Manual for more detailed information. Mudflaps If so stated in the Supplementary Regulations, each vehicle must be fitted with effective mudflaps behind each rear wheel and immediately behind the front wheels if they are driven. When the vehicle is viewed from the rear the mudflaps shall completely obscure the tyre profile to within 80mm of the ground. WINDOW SAFETY MESH If wrist restraints are not used each window must be fitted with safety mesh to prevent the occupants' limbs from projecting beyond the vehicle. WRIST RESTRAINTS If window safety mesh is not used each window, wrist restraints are required for each occupant. The wrist restraints must be worn at all time the car is moving in a competition. COMPETITORS Clothing Racing overalls/suit are recommended but not mandatory. Clothing must cover the body from neck to ankle to wrist and shall not be made from nylon or other flammable material. Driving Gloves Recommended but not mandatory. Dust Mask Recommended but not mandatory. Eye Protection Eye protection must be worn if the vehicle does not a windscreen. Footwear No open footwear (thongs, sandals or similar). Helmet Each vehicle shall have one helmet per competitor that bears the stamp of and conforms to Australian Standard AS 1688.
