  1. I'm an industrial electrician. I carry the smallest tool pouch out of the 10'in our shop. I have yet to goto a job I can't fix. Of course motor changes are out, but just about anything else. A light tool box is best for everybody, including your wallet. Like, you don't need an entire Allen wrench set, if you only use three sizes. Same with wrenches and sockets. Who uses a 11mm socket?? Leave em home, and just organize a light bag. Just what you need, and never more than that.
  2. Don't know if anybody said it, but 80/20. If that's 80 antifreeze. Not good. Water displaces heat better than antifreeze, less antifreeze more water. Also, an additive like water wetter will go a very long way. Also, I hear of people using cascade for a dishwasher as an additive with great success.
  3. Off reading isn't always about power. I would NOT put a sbc in a Nissan. Just a waste. For off road you need efi. For the amount of power you'd get, not worth it. If anything, I'd keep it simple and from what I'm reading, a vg33 is a great swap. With some work, it'd make the same power as most any sbc. The wheeling I do can be done with a 4 cyl engine. I lose traction enforce I run out of power. This is just my "2 drink opinion". It might change in the morning. Len
  4. Got my pathy working. 4wd, brakes, and steering all good. I have a rocky short path behind my house for testing ground. I can go over it fairly easily. Late tonite my buddy tried it in his fairly stock jeep yj. About 30 min later he knocks on my door, and asks for a tug out. He slid sideways and into a big bush.... Pathy drove around him, and pulled him out near effortlessly... Yippee!! Not registered yet, but already showing up jeeps!!

  6. Ok. Just a follow up. Clearances were in the tightest specs from what I got from tech support. Same problem. New crosspin, same problem. Took it out, and put spider gears in. Except for the no locker issue, pathy has 4wd again.
  7. Got my pump out and apart. Very simple design, advance auto sells the rebuild kit for 15$ with my commercial discount. Parts will be in a couple days. It was the shaft seal that was bad. I could have just changed that, but I couldn't find the part online without the entire kit. If anybodies interested, the part number for the seal was NGK AEO816F In case anybody else wants to try and just change the seal. Len.
  8. I'd stop driving it and check front brakes soon. Replacing rotors can get costly, pads are quick and easy...

  10. Hello all, Now I have my 4wd working, and all brand new brakes, washed, cleaned, and light trail tested, I found my power steering pump is leaking. Does anybody know if it's possible to replace the shaft seal, or I'd there is more complicated parts behind that seal? That is definitely my leak, I just need to make sure that I can repair it before I start tearing it apart. Thanks all, Len
  11. That's crazy! How do the 2000-2004 pathfinders fair up compared to an xterra?? They look lower and smaller.
  12. I'm pretty sure this isn't packie88s pathfinder. Mine has diff bumpers, his looks like it has trimmed rear quarters, mine are stock. Also, his profile says 5.13s, mine are 5.38s. Thanks for lead on previous owner. I was only thinking of a 2005 xterra, because I figured newer would be better. But after reading a bit, I'm kinda leaning back towards the 2004 era. Len
  13. My pathfinder is in near garbage shape. Other than brakes, exhaust, shocks, frame rot, power steering blowing all under hood, rear axle pinion seal, hiem joints a little worn out, filthy interior, lack of sway bars, messed up head lights, missing glove box, one black fender, etc..., it's in decent shape. I think the pathfinder is a little better for around town playing then open highway cruising. Plus, I nd to pull a trailer occasionally, and this is a smidge too tall. I like the ride height and interior space of the xterra, which is why I was looking. Plus, when I get the pathy stuck, or it breaks down, a Xterra would be more capable than most other mid SUVs out there to bring rescue eqiupment. I would be interested if anybody knows who might have built this pathy tho, I heard it was built in mass, but couldn't get through inspection, so was sold to a guy in ct, where we don't have inspection laws.   14. I've been looking for a decent suv. I can't afford a newer jeep, can't afford an avalanche, but the xterra seems perfect and affordable. I was looking at the 2005, has to be automatic, and under 70000 miles. Anybody here own one and capable of letting me know something about them?? Mostly used for commuting, snow driving, and home depot/dump runs. And maybe the occasional run on the trail if the pathy breaks or gets too stuck.. Len
  15. Got it back on the ground today. Eye to eye about 46", 2.5 wide. Then measure from eye bolt to floor and one side was 1" lower. Like 18.5 on one side and 17.5 on the other. Flat garage floor, tires same pressure. Axle appeared to sit flat. The rear was about .5" difference left to right. Len
  16. Axles are Dana 44, j20. But springs are military wrap. 2.5 wide.
  17. I have leafs, but the pathy sits crooked, figuring it has a bad spring. What Type of leafs are used in the swap?? Jeep grand Cherokee, cj, yj??? Any ideas?? Thanks all, Len

  19. Hello Guys! I have a question! My new pathy has a 3" body lift, and the dang shifter almost dissapeared!! What are my options to get that back? It sits pretty low in the opening. Thanks all! Len
  20. I agree with knowing what you want to do with it.... I've built a few jeeps in my day, and helped more than one friend build a truck. First thing I always say is that you can only build 3 types of rigs.. Either great on road, great off road, or kinda crappy vehicle that barely does either of them. Not many people have rigs that are good on road, and off road, it's not an easy balance to pull off.. What do you want to do with it is the question? Myself, biggest tires factory set up can fit, and a lunchbox locker in the rear.... But, that's me.. On my jeeps, it's always been a little lift(1-2inch), winch, and a lunchbox... Can go just about anywhere with those 3 things.. Len
  21. Without a fork lift, how do I totally tweak the suspension??? I got a hi lift, but no way to hook onto a tire, and whenever I use that thing, I think people are going to die....n
