  1. I would t say GMs have a lot of issues. I have an 04 Yukon with 250k that has only had the water pump and a couple coolant hoses replaced. They put oil dye in it the other day.. Waiting to hear back from them.
  2. Anything is possible I guess. I just read a thread where a loose valve cover could run oil down the back of the motor and mimic a rear main leak between the motor and tranny. I had a very small valve cover leak. They replaced the valve cover gaskets and less than a tank of gas later Im losing oil like crazy and they say its a rear main. They replaced the rear main 2x along with the upper oil pan 2x and its still leaking. a different tech did the valve cover gaskets and cracked a valve cover the first time. I think maybe he was extra careful on the second go around not to over tighten the valve covers. MAybe he didnt tighten them enough? Maybe its just wishful thinking, but we will find out tomorrow.
  3. 2002 Qx4 4x4 123k miles Long story short.... I had a small (seep) oil leak at the valve cover. One of my customers is a GM dealer and they offered to replace the gaskets for $200. It was a no brainer so I let them do it. Well, they cracked one of the valve covers in the process and replaced it with an OEM Nissan valve cover. Got the truck back and it had a major oil leak within 2 days of getting it home. Brought it back to the shop and they said it was the rear main. They offered me a great price to replace it, so I had them do the rear main, the upper oil pan and the lower oil pan gaskets along with a couple other unrelated items. They ran the truck on the lift for a couple of hours after the work was completed and it had no leaks, but after a 20 mile test drive the truck is leaking oil just as bad as it did before. The shop then went to Infiniti and bought all new OEM gaskets and did the job all over again with the same results. Oil is leaking between engine and transmission Now they are thinking it might be a head gasket. Does anyone have any info to offer? I think they are just grasping because the HG is just about the only gasket left to replace! Thanks!
  4. No, the sway bars are the originals and are still there. The truck has 110k miles and it didnt not sway like this before all the work I just completed. It has to be something to do with the 2" spacers on the rear springs. Like I said, you have to swerve pretty hard to feel it, but its definitely there and I want to sort it out.
  5. Yeah, If I swerve while driving the rear end sways a little more than I want it to. It drives fine, I just dont want an over correction if I have to swerve from something in the road. I forgot about helper bags. I will look into them. I will be pulling a pop up camper with the truck, so bags would be a grat idea! Thanks for the tip.
  6. Here is my chit: 02 QX4 4x4 New Fleury 2" lift spacers New KYB shocks New KYB struts New camber bolts New Hankook Dynapro ATm 255/70/17. No wheel spacers and no rubbing at all I think I'm going to swap out the rear shocks with a stiffer set (any suggestions that will bolt right up?). As the rear sways a little too much for my taste. Receiver hitch and roof rack are next, and then I'm done! Anyhow, here are the before/after pictures: Before: After:
  7. I have ordered everything I need for my 2" lift except the rear shocks. Everyone talks about Rancho 5000's, 9000's, Pro Comp ES3000's, Bilstien, etc... but nobody shows any part numbers for fitting an R50 with a 2" lift. I want a decent shock that wont break the bank. Moreso, I just want to get them ordered today. I dont want a shock that I will have to jury rig or make home depot runs to get them to fit. I dont want to mount it upside down. Ive read COUNTLESS threads of what people are running, but no part numbers. Doesn anyone have an actual shock model number AND part number that bolts right up to an R50 with a 2" lift? Im not interested in articulation. This is my wifes truck that I take out to my deer lease. 99% onroad. Id love to stick with my stock shocks as they only have about 10k miles on them. Who can help me? Thanks in advance! Stock shock: 14" compressed 24" extended Top Mount : E2 (12x42) Bottom Mount: E2 (16x42)
  8. Does anyone know if the 255/75/17's will fith the R50 with a 2" AC lift? I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would ask anyway.
  9. Nice rack! Does that curt rack have the extension on it? Do you have a picture from the side view of the truck? It's hard to see how long the rack is in those pictures.
  10. I haven't investigated it yet. I was hoping someone here had already done it and could save me some time. I am planning on jumping on it this weekend.
  11. A spacer would make the tire clear the strut, right? I need new tires, but I'm waiting until after the 2" ac lift to buy them. Still trying to figure out a size.
  12. 2002 QX4 4x4 - Bose indash cd changer with cassette (no satellite) My truck has the overhead DVD screen and I have an "AUX" button down next to the seat heater. When you hit the aux button the stereo display reads "aux" and the DVD audio is played through the car stereo. Does anyone know if I can yank the DVD player in the back and wire in a regular 3.5mm aux jack instead? I want to set up my Belkin Aircast bluetooth receiver, but I have no aux jack to connect it. I tried the cassette adapter, but it sounds terrible.
  13. They are sending me new pads along with a return shipping label. I just have to wait a few more days yto do my brakes. I was hpong to do them this weekend.
  14. I read that I will have to get aftermarket wheels or wheels spacers if I plan on the 2" lift. Is that not true? I definitely dont want spacers, but Id rather use spacers than buy aftermarket wheels. The truck currently has the stock 17" 3 spoke QX4 wheels.
  15. Nevermind. I figured it out. I ordered RD855's and they sent RD885's. These pads are for the rear discs on a 02-06 toyota camry! ugh
  16. 2002 Infiniti Qx4 4x4 I ordered new Bendix ceramic brake pads off amazon and they were just delivered. They are part# RD885. These things are TINY! I would think they are rear rotors for a hyundai. The entire pad (end to end) is a little shorter than my middle finger and Im not a big guy. My wife has the truck and she wont be home until late tonight, so I thought Id throw this ut there for you guys. The bendix website says the RD885 are for the front of the truck, but the R50 would have the smallest front disc pads of any car in the world if these are correct. Can anyone validate this for me?
  17. The QX4 has the selector switch for the 4x4. Will manual hubs not do me any good with that? Ive never had a truck that didnt have a shifter for the transfer case. Makes me wonder if Im REALLY in 4wd. The bug is a 64.
  18. As far as comparing the pathfinder to the QX4, I think its obviously a nicer truck than the Pathfinder. I have got to the point where I like to have options on my cars. My 99.5 was an XE, so it had power windws/locks/mirrors and thats about it. This QX4 has heated/memory seats. Bose stereo (which doesnt sound very good) sunroof, leather, DVD player for the kids, HIDs, climate control, etc... It all boils down to 1 question: Which do you like more; a hot pink thong or brown granny panties? they both get the job done, but I know what I prefer! I know everyone says that there is just more stuff to break if you have more options, but I dont care. They trucks are old and its easy to find parts new and used for them. and btw, I didnt think my 99.5 pathfinder was spent when I gave it to my sister. It was runnng fine with no issues other than the 02 sensor issue that required the extra wiring harness. I was just ready to get my land cruiser and I dont have room for 4 cars, so I had to move the pathfinder. @bushnut: Its funny that you brought up old VWs. This is what takes up the extra space in my garage:
  19. Its a YouTube video. The more I look at it, the more it looks homemade.
  20. Well, I've wanted an FJ80 since the early 90s, but I was just a 16 yr old kid and could never afford one. Toyota has their bulletproof reputation and I had only owned Nissans (hardbody, frontier, xterra, and the pathfinder) until then. I wanted to try something new and it just didn't work out. I LOVE that 80, in fact, I do plan on getting another one someday. It is just not practical for a DD. I thought I would basically have the same experience with the Toyota as I did with the Nissan. For example, get in and drive the hell out of it everyday and know that I could depend on it. Unfortunately, it wasn't like that. The truck is extremely underpowered and sluggish. You can really feel that 4.5l 6cyl working its ass off to move the 4800lb truck in full time 4wd. That truck is a tank! But being a tank has its drawbacks and those drawbacks (fuel economy and power) were a real problem for me. I also had to fix a few issues with it and the parts are pretty expensive. I had more things go wrong with that truck in the 4 months I have owned it than I did with the 99 XE the whole 7 years I had it. It really isn't fair to compare the r50 to the fj80 though. It's really apples and oranges. My opinion is that I would rather own/drive a 97 pathfinder than a 97 land cruiser. It would definitely be harder to decide between a pathfinder and a 4runner, but I will go with the Nissan every time based on my positive experiences with all the trucks I've had.
  21. Hi all! So here is the short story. I had a 99.5 4x4 pathfinder for about 7 years and racked up 200k miles before giving it to my sister 3 months ago. I thought I was moving UP to an FJ80 Toyota Land Cruiser. Well, after putting 4k miles on the cruiser I realized it was not the truck for me. The Toyota is currently for sale on craigslist and I picked up a 2002 QX4 over the weekend. I got a killer deal on the QX4 and it is MUCH nicer than the 99 XE I had before. I just ordered new struts/shocks, slotted/crossdrilled rotors with ceramic pads, and 2" AC lift kit. Wheel spacers are next. Im guessing a 1.25" spacer will work for that 2" lift? Anyone know of a good tire size to stuff under the 2" AC lift? Nothing crazy, just something that will require minimal trimming and look good. I will be getting an a/t tire. No mudders or anything. The QX4 has a few small issues, but Im sure I will get them figured out in the next week or so. If anyone would like to offer up some suggestions, I would be all ears! Issues: 1. High beams: no worky. Probably a fuse or both bulbs, but havent looked into it yet. The truck has HID's, but i think the high beams are regular bulbs. I get the high beam indicator on the dash, but they dont turn on at all. 2. Driver window: when you hit auto up, the window rolls all the way up and then instantly rolls back down 3". The manual says the windows will do that if it thinks there is something caught in the window, but there is definitely nothing in there. 3. Today I got a P1130 code and an SES light. I blew out the vacuum lines and cleaned the connector on the SCV, but still getting the code. Should I just go ahead and buy a new SCV or is there something else I can try first? Thanks guys!!!
  22. I am buddies with a General manager of a dealership and he said that 9 out of 10 of those warranties are sucker bets. I bought one with my sat vehicle and the only issue I had was not covered either.
