  1. Yeah I am going to end up replacing them most likely. I think the A/C compressor or something else may be out. It appears that the freon level or whatever is in there is close to full - So my father in law says. Probably will try to get both of those knocked out. Its been sooooo hot lately, gotta have a/c
  2. Thx James, that's what I heard too. I don't have the vehicle at the moment, so does anyone know exactly what setup/size exhaust I need to purchase?

  4. Is the water pump a usual issue with this model/year? Far as I know, it didnt get a full tune up/inspection, as I bought it not long after the dealership got it. Im not familiar enough with the vehicle to know if there are things I should be looking out for at this point in mileage.
  5. Shouldnt have a problem if I just need the sockets and extension... I have that and more. A tension gauge for the belts is something I dont have. It sounds like the belts to me, but I guess it could be something else. I've heard of all kinds of things some guys do as a temporary fix, like using bar soap to eliminate the squeek. Its audible enough that its annoying at idle. Btw, I posted a question about getting a better exhaust. Anyone with a magnaflow/equivalent cat-back?
  6. Belts are squeaking a bit and I'd like to replace them, and on my own if possible. I've usually done basic stuff on my vehicles, like fluid changes. I was hoping someone can tell me what tools I'll need (in case I need to borrow them), etc.
  7. Thx Devonian! Thats useful information. What about the camber adjustment kit? Does the preassembled kit tell you what type of shocks are needed (I thought one kit only came with rear shocks). Btw, the white with black rims looks great. What type of lights are on your bar?
  8. Thanks for the feedback! And your lift looks sharp. I'm assuming you bought it at 4x4parts.com? I'll look into those hankook tires. I know they used to be a much more affordable option to bridgestone, fallen, etc, but it seems like their prices have come up recently.
  9. Also, trying to stay on budget for now, I think I may just paint the stock wheels black (ugly as they are) and will be in the market for tires. The off road look is great but I'd like something with a tread guarantee. I know there are only a few really off road capable tires with that benefit. It will be used 90% on road, so wearability there is necessary, with decent off road capability. Thx
  10. Idk if it's just from seeing all the other pathfinder pics, but our pathfinder just looks too low, especially the back end. I don't want to sacrifice daily driving ability, and ride, but would love something mild yet noticeable. I've seen different options for 2" kits that seem reasonably affordable (and that's what I'm going for). Is that pretty close to the height limit without effecting drivability? I also noticed that you can just purchase the coils without shocks. Is it a big deal to not upgrade the shocks at the same time? It's a 2000 with about 67,000 mi. Thanks
  11. Hey everyone, I'm rarely on here but thought I would ask get some wise advice from seasoned pathi fanatics. The 2000 I bought my wife could use an exhaust and intake from what one of Jim wolfs guys told me. Not a lot can be done otherwise (lik on the ecu side) for that year, in terms of performance. I'm used to the real bottleneck being way further up (other vehicle is Mazda turbo), but he said the cat back setup is pretty restrictive. I've read good stuff about magna flow, supposedly less drone than equivalent flowmasters. Im not able to look under the truck right now, and I'm not overly familiar with these vehicles. What do I need, and is there a preferred vendor for the parts? My buddy runs a garage and I'll prob end up paying him to throw it on, but would like to price/source parts now. For this of you with aftermarket cbe and intake, what type of differences did u notice? Thanks
  12. I talked to a guy from Jim Wolf technologies and he explained to me how the throttle body spacers are a good concept, but would have to be much longer to be effective. Looks like I'm left with an air intake, manual hubs, and less restrictive exhaust (The same gentleman explained to me that the factory exhaust manifold is one of the best and most efficient designs, but the system from the cat back is fairly restrictive). He said a good exhaust/resonator could be worth 10-15 hp. Between that and an intake, I think there could be a noticeable gain. This motor could use all the help it can get
  13. Thanks everyone! Yeah, I wasnt crazy about getting a replacement vehicle that is 3 years older than the one i traded in, but I'm hoping it was really treated as it looks. You say I got a good deal but I never mentioned what I paid! :-) they gave me close to book for my trade in, so all said and done I got it out the door for $7000
  14. I figured I would get some skewed feedback on the throttle body modification, but what about the others? From what I understand, for cost and/or environmental hoopla, most ecu programming and intake designs have some room left for improvement. Like I said, I know it will never be a fast truck. I just want to make some noticeable improvements. Maybe it's me, but the engine does seem like it needs to be "freed up" for lack of better words, whether intake or mapping related.

  16. New owner here and looking to complete some basic and affordable changes. I have done a lot of reading and seem to find somewhat varied opinions on throttle body spacers. Some people complain about the whistling sound, or say it is a very marginal performance change. I found one brand in particular that touts their product as "less whistle, more performance" I guess. They claim up to 22 hp and 25 ft-lbs torque with an increase of 4 mpg....I realize that these claims are usually on the high side, but this engine could benefit from ANY help in the power/efficiency area. Even an 8hp, 10 ft-lb gain with another 2mpg is worth $100. I'm not overly familiar enough with the stock set up to know whether or not a cold-air style intake would help more than an aftermarket box type unit designed to keep hot air out. My other car has a turbo, and obviously makes much bigger gains from that simple bolt-on, somewhere near 20hp+. Depending on how restrictive the stock unit is, could a new intake be good for another 8hp and better mileage? I know it will never be a powerhouse, but a bump of 16+ hp and similar torque is definitely noticeable. The third thing is an ecu programmer. I did extensive research on the various options for my car and found that, for someone who wants a simple plug and play, Hypertech makes great products. Idk if they make one for the year of my truck, but would like some feedback. The last thing is locking hubs. I've heard there at least a 2mpg increase with this mod. I also heard it can cause some issues. Is it worth giving up your ability to change drive/gears inside your comfy cabin? Thanks for reading, and any feedback
  17. Hi everyone. Just bought my wife a 2000 Pathfinder LE. It has some paint touch up here and there that are pretty obvious, but only one rust spot that needs to be touched up. Other than that it's in great condition. Everything works, Leather is literally like new except for one small spot (still not torn at all). 65,000 mi 2 owner, and came with a decent aftermarket bumper and side bars/boards in solid shape. It was an answer to the problem of fitting a trek stroller in the trunk of the car. I'm not a huge off-road enthusiast - mainly because I don't have money to be breaking stuff - but would like to complete a few mild modifications when the funds allow. First up is mileage/performance mods....off to post in the appropriate area!
