  1. Got into a wreck with an SVC about two years ago (cut the front of the car near in half with factory brush guard! Nissan 1 Subaru 0) it threw my alignment off a bit and bent the compression rod on the drivers side, a little damage to the grandstand bumper but not too bad. Well I've slowly been putting time and money into rebuilding the front steering and suspension, so far only got 30% or so finished. Shoulda been quicker because it aappears that putting the control arm bushing on the back burner was not smart. Took out both upper and lower ball joints I had installed two months ago. So tomorrow I'm saying eff it and finally going to fix everything at once! I had gathered most the parts up before today but haven't had time. Now let's see if I can finish the gauntlet! Wish me luck!

    Good luck! :)

  2. Replaced rear sway bar links.

One of them was broken, So I did them both. . . 4 nuts = 4 hours over two days. . . rust can nibble my fiddly bits. . .

But! the clunk is still there!

It's weird. When I brake in 2-hi, come to a complete stop, release pressure on the brake pedal the body settles and Clunk! Take foot off of brake, apply throttle and . . . clunk!

Doesn't do it in 4-hi or 4-lo, only in 2-hi. Doesn't do it on bumps or around corners. Shocks pass the bounce test and I can't find anything else loose under the truck.

It baffles, disconcerts and annoys the ever living (shag) out of me. Help?

I get the same problem, it is time to change the bushing on the upper and lower links and the panhar bushings as well. I wish Rob was next door... .

  3. haha well I just repainted all the parts black again and stripped the parts that were steel and used to be coated (and we're just rusty) with black as well (coolant pipes etc). I also polished and shined up some of the aluminum parts as well. I figure I'll start a build thread for my new truck in the members rides section. I'll get some pics tomorrow and post up a new thread!

Black and silver... Hummmmm... Pics!!

I'll follow your thread, seem to be very interesting. Thanks.

    Philippe.

  4. Finally finished painting the last pieces I stripped for the timing job. Will have it back together and running on the weekend. Can't wait to get this truck back on the road with all the issues fixed! Miss driving a pathy...

We like to see pics too and I want to know if it is more colorful than mine...

  5. Downloaded the factory a/t manual, and am grunting my way through the diagnostics to figure out why my line pressure is so high.

On dry or wet pavement, it's not a big deal, but if I get into packed snow/ice this winter, that 1-2 shift will send me sideways.

Even the 2-3 shift will rattle your fillings.

I had this very hard 1-2 shift on mine until I changed fluid and filter. That solved the problem. Ph.

  6. When I got T-boned directly in the RR tire/wheel several weeks ago, I finally found out the hub got slightly bent so I ordered a new axle through Rob but it needed to come directly from Japan. He told me that it could take many weeks for it to come in but he PM'd me today and he shipped it (only 9 days from ordering)! It may make it here by Saturday so depending on the weather I may swap them out this weekend. Awesome!

    (to be continued....)

Where I am, without Rob, my terrano would be in a scrapyard today.

Rebuilt and re installed my starter yesterday.

  7. Pulled my dash out and fixed the turn signal indicator one side wasn't flashing so replaced both with new less. Tried fixing my light switch because on high beam only one headlight works. Couldn't figure out which contacts to clean on the thing so I screwed the lever back on and buttoned it up for now.

    This might help:

I had to rebend mine just a little after cleaning to make them work right again.

one of my high beam was not working and i left it like this as i was not ready to spend the time to find the problem until i took my car for the (kind of slack) inspection we have here. They gave me time to do the repair. Luckily, some days after, I read the above. It took me half an hour to fix the problem this afternoon.

Thank to you both for the posts, it helped me today.

Congrats PHR, must be nice to have it running again! I'm not sure what to make of the engine colors, but I've got Bill Murray's face stenciled on my hood insulation, so I don't think I get to say anything.

About the color, it is right that it looks a bit like an indian festival... but this was not the inspiration. Years ago when I first bought my terrano (late 2006), I was thinking to gradually bring it up to standard using the local mechanics. Mistake. I then decided to do repairs myself. As you all have noticed when you buy a white car, the white engine bay make it easy to work inside. when you have a black car the light you have to have to see anything inside maybe develop some comfortable heat during a winter sunday, but certainly become a nightmare in the tropics. This is when I started to paint the bay silver. The first job i did was on the heads and I painted the covers plus some protection and other in the color I found on the shelf at the time. The choice was between blue ford and this red.

The yellow came after when I got new nissan upper arms, already rusty.

When I did the block, i used silver (like the heads aluminum) not to add a fourth color.

The advise I would give if anybody was tempted, make you choice at once. Silver is the one which will make the work in the engine bay much easier.

Other than that I generally like to be unnoticed, low profile, invisible... I missed this time. :) .
