  1. I have had a Via air 90 (?) for about 4 years get used a few times a year has stood up well. Airing down is very much a terrain issue, I almost never air down, but I am on the West Coast and most of the roads are hard pack dirt, gravel or stone.

     

    Be aware of though I have seen more torn tires on trucks that air down and are aggressive on the gas, when they are on sharp rock. So adjust your driving accordingly.

     

    Your last line is says it best and remember the road ends where you say it does.

    Getting out and walking for 5 or 10 minutes can save you hours of digging, if in doubt walk down the road and see what it looks like.

    Line is everything look for the easiest way, not the "coolest" way.

    More gas is rarely the the best solution to any problem.

     

    Finally beacuse this drives me nuts, be prepared to walk out, have good foot wear, a warm jacket and long pants even in summer. Just toss it all in a day pack with some water and energy bars and always toss it in the truck or just leave it in there. If you travel with otheres they should be equally prepared to walk.

  2. I agree the Hawairish there is something very wrong those nuts should never come loose, I have done uppers twice, lowers once used poly bushing on the bottom. I do 10 to 15 days of long run off road a year never had one come loose in 10000 Km of logging roads.

     

    You need to determine what is wrong, but even the poly bushing required some grease and pressure to seat. It sounds like the the metal housing for the bushing is missing. That is a thin tube of metal inside the mount. See the red arrow in the image below, stock bushings need to pressed in they should not just 'drop in'

  3. It is literally a 10 minute job.

     

    I bought a used one and resistor from a wrecker put it in it the parking lot. - seems like there a million different resistors for these I could not find a single on that looked like mine. Just went with the same dash controls seems to work ok.

  4. Check the torque on your bearings/hubs as well, I had an annoying vibration after putting new tires on - I assumed it was a balance issue the tire shop rebalanced all 4 and swapped around the vibration would not go away. Into the shop my mechanic checked the front end and found the right side was loose. Tightened it up problem went away,

  5. Where are you located, I have gone just about everywhere basically stock. Oddly the Whipsaw is one I have not done yet. I don't rock crawl, but R50's are not really the best choice for that kinda of thing.

     

    If you are out of Vancouver/Fraser valley there are lots of FSR's you can poke around but regardless of your location the Backroads Mapbooks are your best friend - just get the current edition, 4 I think.

  6. I have a transmission sitting under my deck with a stripped 1st gear no warning the gear just went. I got lucky and got a used transmission for 560 tax in.

     

    I understand money being tight, I would suggest taking it really easy on your shifts. In winter and fall the shift to 1st can be really hard once it gets cold so take your time.

     

    You need to baby that thing until you can get it looked at.
