  1. I cut a piece of pvc to the right length, then split it down one side so it would fit over the piston. Works like a champ...
  2. Not a whole lot actually. The engine runs good and it actually passed smog (barely) this year. Biggest problem is a weird short in the wiring behind the dash. I've spent several hours trying to track it down, and I think I just have to pull the dash and see whats up. Needs a little suspension work as the back is sagging a bit. After that, we'll give it a desert camo paint job and deal what what breaks one issue at a time!
  3. Well, I don't have much help for you on the engine, but will be interested to see the progress on your project. I've got an 87' as well and am working on 'restoring' it up to a useable condition.
  4. So I've got a weird short somewhere behind the dash board. The multifunction turn signal switch had gone bad and I had assumed that was it. It was leaving the lights on and that sort of thing. Finally got around to replacing that. So now what it does is if I try to use the electric window, or turn on the headlights, the dashboard voltmeter drops to zero, both relays in the fuse box start buzzing. The windows don't get enough voltage to go down, etc... Checked all of the grounds. All good. Checked voltage on everything I could in the fuse box, and everything checks out. The battery is new and the under hood voltages are all good. Best as I can figure is it's just a weird short somewhere under the dash. So, I'm going to pull the dash out and look for it. While I'm doing that, the dash, which is all cracked could use some serious refurbishing, so I'll do that as well. I've seen an article on the web that talks about removing the dash, and it doesn't look that bad. Just wondered if anyone who has pulled the dash before had any advice? Anything I should make sure I do while I have it pulled? Anything I should definitely not do? Thanks in advance for your help!
  5. Hey, This looks like the place to be for an owner of an 87 pathfinder. Wife bought it brand new in 87. About 180k on it and it still runs like a top. It does have some other issues, but nothing a little work and a paint job won't cure. Biggest issue right now is that there is a short in the dash board somewhere, so I'll probably be asking some questions about that at some point once I get done reviewing all of the info available here.
