Sometimes when I accelerate I hear a rattle from the engine. It's as if something is clanking against the hood. Could it be the accelerator wire hitting against something? It is very sporadic, tried it several times to find it the noise while parked in neutral, have only heard the noise when the car is moving. Occurs at low speeds, highway speeds, but only when I press the accelerator. Thoughts? Thanks.

Is there a good safari rack option for the R50? Ideally a cost effective one to boot. Thanks.

Sorry for the late response, was on travel for a week. I just bumped by tire pressure to 30 in all tires today. I am running the stock factory size tires and rims. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Its going to be hard to check the fluid especially without jacking up the truck. The hole is located at the center and to undo it you will at least need a breaker bar. I had the same problem but I decided to just go ahead and get the fluid changed, ended up using GL4 Royal Purple. It was never changed in my truck before I bought it, if its the same for you then better get it changed, it became fairly smooth after the change.

The R50 manual says that the tire pressure should be 26psi but it seems to too low. At 26psi it looks as if the tires are almost flat. I am running stock tires. What do people usually inflate to? Thanks.

Thanks everyone! This is good news. Lifting would be nice but no moola.

What are my options if I do not want to cut?

Is there a way for me to put on 31x10.5 tires on the stock R15 rim? I have no lift and no mods but want good tires to handle off-road, not the all-season stuff. Taking it one step further, what is the largest tire I may be able to install without any lift? Thanks.

Thanks everyone! I am moving to San Jose, once I have a shipping address will definitely need the variable motor board. Didn't know it would be ~$100 but better than ~$150.

Took my 98 Pathfinder to the local mechanic who diagnosed that my blow motor resistor board is gone. I get no air at auto, I, II, or III setting. The blow motor worked fine when connected as-is to a car battery. What is a good place to get the resistor board? Is this something I can replace myself? Any place I can see the step by step guide to it? Thanks!

Good news!! My local mechanic agreed to replace both the trail arm bushings and the panhard bushings for $600 cash. Its a lot of money but saves me a headache as I am not inclined to do this. Hope this works out, spent a lot of money on the R50.

Just took my R50 in to the shop for an estimate for replacing the bushings for the death wobble. They quoted as follows: - Rubber bushings - 4 bushings for the trail arms - 2 bushings for the panhard - Total estimate between $700-800 incl. parts and labor This seems very high but please share thoughts? They also said no to use polyurethane bushings since he said it cracks in about a year. The rubber bushings, he said, will last 6-7 years. Please help!!! Thanks, Vinit

Last night I noticed that when I am in idle and I turn my wheel from left to right or right to left the RPM shoots up to about 1500 when I am moving the steering wheel in idle. I had my parking brake set and the gear in neutral (5-sp gearbox). Is this normal? If not, what should I do about it? Don't really see any driving difference. Thanks.

This past weekend I took off the fender flares on my 1998 Pathfinder. I think the truck looks a lot better without them. Some questions about the change: 1. I saw a bunch of holes in the body used to hold the flares in place, should I close these up or is it ok to leave them open? 2. Would rust increase since I took the flares off? I was fortunate to not find any rust under any of the fender flares. 3. What could I use to plug the holes if I needed to? 4. I was unable to remove the flare that is part of the front bumper, has anyone done that and if so how do I remove it? Thanks.

Interesting, my local Nissan dealer quoted $500 for just the belt.

Local mechanic is asking $650 to change the timing belt, water pump, etc. including all parts and labor. Is this reasonable? Sounds expensive. Thanks.

Thanks everyone!

Is there a Calmini steering upgrade for the R50? I only found kits for Pathfinders up to 1995.

Where is the shifter hole? Do you have any pictures?

Two topics: 1. Changing manual transmission fluid Got the Max Gear 75W-90 GL4 fluid and found the drain plug on the transmission. However, it doesn't seem like the fill plug is easily accessible. What do you guys use? I was thinking of buying a drill pump, two sets of pipes and trying that route. All I have to lift the car are Rhino ramps. Thoughts? 2. Changing the front differential fluid Again, found the drain plug but the fill plug doesn't seem to be easily accessible. Same problem as above.

Thanks guys. Will post again once I have an update.

Would an off alignment cause this at all?

Hi folks: Driving my R50 above 60mph on the highway makes my steering wheel shake left/right quite a bit. I recently got new shocks and struts so I know its not that. It is not swaying, the ride is very smooth. Its just the steering shake. Painful for my wife when she drives for a bit. Also, the steering lock is not working, not sure if it is related (doesn't sound like it) but throwing it out there. I don't intend to fix this myself, don't really have any shop equipment or expertise. However when I take it to a mechanic (most likely on Monday) what should I expect to pay? Also, it would be good to know what it could be to talk sensibly to the mechanic. Thanks!

I plan on using the Rhino ramps to give me some room up front and hopefully I can easily take care of the fluid. I ordered 6qrts since the manual calls for about 5.3qrts.

I bought the 75W90. Amazon had it for $15 per quart, plus no tax in CA.
