  1. I tested the canister vent valve and it failed the test. I'm going to blow out all the lines as soon as my parts get here and I'm pretty sure that should fix the problem. Not much charcoal fell out (little pellets) when I shook the canister. After the fix I'll let you guys knows if anything comes up again. Thanks, Cris
  2. Hi everyone. Yesterday I decided to drop the EVAP canister and have a look. First though I checked all the rubber lines at the front and they all appeared to be OK. So after dropping the canister and pulling the EVAP canister vent control valve, I noticed two things; the solenoid DOES NOT click when I apply voltage so it's stuck open I think (hence the 1448; EVAP valve stuck open) and little bits of charcoal fell out, and I think that isn't supposed to happen. Is this correct? When I disconnected some of the vacume lines, no charcoal fell out. Here is my other question, in this evap HOW-TO link, he has a purge volume control valve mounted around the left front strut area next to the brake booster. Ummmm, I don't have ANY of that stuff. I have a hard line coming up and across the firewall, then to a rubber line with the EVAP service port, then another rubber line to a little valve/solenoid on top of the engine, then another "outlet" rubber line into the intake manifold. My pathfinder is a 1998 SE 4x4 with a manufacture date of 3/98. Can someone explain why mine is different? Thanks! Cris P.S. I'm going to order a new canister and valve w/ O ring today.
  3. Good day everyone. Last night the SES light came on, so when I got home I pulled the codes. The reader said P0440 and P1448. When I purchased the truck the previous owner did say the SES would come on and then go off occasionally. After doing some research on this board, I found this thread detailing how to fix this problem. http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=11442&st=0&p=177630&hl=evap&fromsearch=1entry177630 Will this fix my problem or is something else going on? The gas cap is on tight. Thanks, Cris
  4. You know...I did push down on the fender and I saw the strut move a little thru the mounting hole. Is this something I need to do right away or it can it wait a little while? I just got slapped w/ the EVAP code 0440 and 1448, so I'd rather fix that first. Thanks, Cris
  5. Struts were replacing by the previous owner around 18k miles ago. no noise above like 5mph, but below you can hear a little something going straight or turning from the right front.
  6. Good day everyone. I started to hear this lite noise when travelling at slow speeds, doesn't matter if I'm turning or going straight. It seems to be coming from the passenger side. Today I raised the front passenger side up, and spun the wheel; no noise. Then I put my hands at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and tried to pull out and in (basically trying to pull the wheel/tire off the spindle) and it didn't move. After that I put my hands at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock again, but this time I left my bottom hand still and pulled out on the top of the tire, and it moved very slightly. It also made some sort of tapping or very lite clanking noise. I looked at the lower ball joint and the boot is still intact. So could it be I need to readjust the wheel bearings or is it the lower ball joint? When travelling at speed I don't hear anything, and the truck feels nice and tight. Thanks! Cris P.S. I have a Haynes manual, but it says I need a pull scale to do the wheel bearings..is this correct??
  7. Good point. I'm a firm beleiver in buying and driving cheap, well maintained cars and trucks as opposed to paying $45k for something that only uses value as you use it. I'll just keep an eye on the oil level and maybe crawl underneath this weekend to see if it's the rear oil pan gasket. This is my first 4x4 pathfinder. I've owned a 99 maxima and I absolutely loved the motor in that thing. That a being said, I'm more familiar with Honda's (I can do timing belts, water pumps, valve adjustments, springs/struts, etc. on a Honda) so this whole working on a truck thing is new. Lots of sh*t in the way it seems.
  8. If it's a rear main seal, FORGET IT. I'm not dropping the transmission for a few drops of oil a day.
  9. Thanks for the quick replies guys! I don't have an oil filter relocation kit, so mine is still in the same spot towards the front of the motor. I'll try to pinpoint where I see oil dripping from. If you are underneath the vehicle with your legs out towards the front and your head towards the back; it's dripping right at the bottom of the transmission bell housing where it meats the motor. If you look a little to the right (like 2 inches or so) you will two metal lines of somesort with oil dripping off of them. Is there a sensor around there that needs replacing or something I'm missing? I doubt it's the rear main seal as it would probably just drip straight down and not over to the right. Thanks! I should add that it's a 98 SE 4x4.
  10. Good day everyone! I did a search for the rear main seal and oil pan gasket, but came up empty handed. I currently have an oil leak from the rear of the engine. It seems to be dropping from the bottom of the transmission bell housing where it meets the motor and to the right of the transmission on two metal hoses (passenger side). I took it into the shop and they replaced the valve cover gaskets (were in bad shape), but it's still leaking a little. Could it be the oil pan gasket, or is it the rear main seal? Thanks, Cris
