  1. Hi everyone.

My Pathfinder is in the shop and I need some quick measurements if you have them handy.

i have an 88 2dr se-v6 with foldable back seats.

    i'd like to know:

    1. the interior back area dimensions when the seats are in use

    2. the interior back area dimensions when the seats are folded forward

thank you in advance for this

  2. Allo everyone.

Quick question. Would a WD21 interior visor work in a 94 Sentra. I have no access to the Sentra at the moment to see if they look similar, so I figured I would ask my more knowledgeable friends here.

    Thanks

  3. for the struts that hold up the hatch, i just bend mine a tiny bit when they are fully open, the added friction of the slightly bent tube makes them like new. Ive never had to buy a set on any car once i figured that trick out.

struts is a better word than ''thingys'' - thanks!

do you bend them with any tools or just with your brute strength?

  4. Mine was about that bad, I also sheeted over it, but my whole plan was to remove the rear seats anyway, so I didn't bother replacing the mounts for the seats or the belts. I used sheet metal screws to fasten mine, then glassed over the entire area on the inside and sprayed about 2 cans of undercoating on the bottom.

so it seems like that spot is prone to rusting on a lot of Pathfinders from that era. I was thinking that I was the unlucky one for a moment.

  5. Does your floor look something like this?

I cut out all the rusty stuff and got a big sheet of 22ga sheet metal to patch it up. I didn't have a welder at the time so I used RTV silicone and rivets. First, measure where the seat brackets and seat belt mounts need to be when you reinstall them then cut out all the rust. Don't leave any or it'll creep back on you. Be sure to look under the truck to make sure you won't be hacking thru a bracket or something (driveshaft hoop mounts, fuel and brake lines, etc.). Spray the edges with a rust inhibitor and spray paint then get a sheet big enough to cover up the hole and overlap the good metal and inch or two. Form the sheet to the original contour (or close enough so your seats will sit correctly) and drill holes for the rivets.

I used about 150 rivets for mine. This is a shot while in the cargo area looking forward. I overlapped up to the brace in the top of the pic and just below where the cargo floor starts to slope down. Secure the sheet with rivets then fill the gaps inside and underneath with RTV so no dirt or water can collect between the sheet and body. If your is like mine was, you'll have rust in the wheel arches and other spots where you can't easilly form the metal. For those areas, use fiberglass patches.

If you look above the brace, you'll see more rust holes. Be sure to pull all the carpet out and fix them all. Under the driver's right foot is a pretty common spot as well.

Sorry, can't find pics of the finished work. Just think Michelangelo meets Chip Foose with a touch of Jessie James.

I haven't remounted the seat belts yet but when I do, I'll prolly use another large, thick sheet of metal to act as a washer under the new metal to be sure the belts won't pull thru in an accident.

thanks for such a detailed reply.

I am utterly useless with fixing such a huge problem so i'm having help and hopefully learning some things along the way. Mine is rusted at basically the same places.

will the fibreglass patches double as a rust inhibitor? if not, what do you recommend as a good product for that. I'd like to get some preventative measures in place to minimise any future rusting

  6. I went to the junkyard today, where I picked up some wheel caps and a full size spare rim

I saw a 4-door 1991 Pathfinder there and I plan to go back tomorrow and see if I can salvage anything else.

Question: Will the roof rack off a 91 work for an 88? and will the hyraulic things that keep the tailgate up be interchangeable?

  7. Hello Everyone!

So, today I got my 88 2-door back from my mate who was working on some suspension issues and now it's time for me to do the rest myself, with your help of course.

I will be asking a tonne of questions and I realise that a lot of them will be redundant and silly, but I appreciate all the help you provide in advance.

    Problems fixed to date:

    Rear suspension and springs

Wheel caps and full size spare rim

    Things to be done:

Replace rusted out panel below back seats

    Left Front indicators

Hydraulic lifting thingys to keep back door up

    Full seat-belts for rear seats

Left rear quarter panel body repair

    Fender flares

    Front bumper repair

    Find replacement side-steps or alternatives

I shall post pictures up and start using the search function now

    Thanks

    Cyrus

  8. Just paint with a rust hole patch under it on one side. Looks like you have a step on the drivers side at least but with a little help you can generally make differnt ones work. IIRC 2 and 4 door wd21's have the same wheelbase so 4 door steps will work and mine I actually got off a King Cab Hardbody.

that's good to hear. i haven't seen a single 2 door wd21 in these parts since i got mine and i've been looking furiously.

  9. Welcome Cyrus!! Sounds like you have have found a good ride, hopefully it won't need much work unless that is what you want to do. Regardless, we can help you...

As for the foot ball, well, it's none of my business that you have a keen eye for men in short pants.

    Nice one!!

    B

thanks in advance for the help that i am sure i will get here...

and as for football, it's one thing to be keen on blokes in shorts, but i am still wondering how the american throwball fans justify the tightpant bumpatting rahrah ness of it all...

    *runs and hides*

  10. Someone has been doeing their homework :aok:

floor patches? theres a coupel threads on that as well on the cheap. Also when your looking for parts it don't hurt to check out part-outs here for some deals or mension when you need something someone might have an extra of layign around...

are your ''rcoker panels'' paint or did you add another piece of metal to the body?

at the moment, i am in need of side steps, but i reckon getting them for the 2-door will be quite a task...

  11. Jeddah is nice because its on the coast, but apart from that its a lot like any other Saudi city.

Thank God, I thought you were going to tell me you are a Liverpool or City supporter. It was a pretty sad game, but hopefully Rooney's injury won't be too bad.

we've become too dependent on roon this season to a fault, but i reckon now we'll have to pull something out of the magic chest to capture the premiership... i'm certainly not looking forward to the stress of these last few games though...

  12. hey welcome aboard CYRUS its nice to see a another east coast person n up north near me  if u some parts hunting advise in the area or help let me know good luck wit the repairs

I've been calling junkyards on Long Island and no one seems to care for the first generation pathfinders, i'm afraid, so if you have a source that i can use, do share.

first repair is the rusted floor panels below the back seats and wheelwells... the engine runs like a champion thus far so i'm lucky

i am still deciding what my approach should be for her. since adding pink accents has already been done, i'll have to go to plan b *wink*

  13. My dad worked for Raytheon and Litton in Jeddah.

Haha, of course I followed football. I am and always have been, and always will continue to be an avid Manchester United fan. Yourself?

I'm a 3rd Generation United supporter, mate, so you're tops in my book already. I'm gutted about the last week of results though - bloody awful showing.

I never had the opportunity of seeing Jeddah in my short time there :(

  14. Greetings!

128K miles on an 88! nice find!!

And welcome to the States! I myself was born in Saudi Arabia(parents worked there), grew up partially in England and then we moved to Arizona. There's lots of Aussies and Kiwi's on here and I thought one or two South Africans so we are pretty international.

    Welcome to the fun!

whereabouts in Saudi? I did some work in Dahran and Riyadh when I was at university...

during your time in England, did you follow football, and if so, what team do you support? This will determine if we get along or not.

i was quite amazed at seeing 128k on her as well. I bought it from a bloke who's father was the first and only owner so it makes sense I suppose if it was his second vehicle.

  15. allo everyone.

Cyrus here. Currently in New York, although I was born in Zimbabwe and spent most of my life in England.

I came across my 88 Terrano/Pathfinder a couple of weeks ago on the side of the road and instantly fell in love. I'd always liked them growing up but haven't seen on in these parts (Long Island) ever really so as you can imagine, I was super eager to acquire it and 500 dollars for 128k miles and great shape all around was well worth it in my opinion.

As this is the first vehicle that I've bought that requires work done by myself, I shall be asking a lot of questions here I am sure, and I apologise in advance for the ignorance that my accompany my queries.

Pictures to follow as soon as I figure out how to.

    Cheers for now
