  1. I do have 2" AC coils up front. I have an ARB front bumper with a winch that weighs down the front end just about an inch. So in order to level the truck out a little I had to use the NX4 spacers. Rick, I ended up using longer bolts and installing them on top of the SFD spacers for the struts. This way I didn't have to disassemble the strut to add the spacer.

So, actually it is like having a regular 6" lift because the front end is lower by about an inch due to the bumper and winch.

2" AC coils with 4" SFD up front

6.5" Jeep coils cut just like Ricks in the rear with adapter from Krypton Fabs

I'll take a pic of the strut spacer up front to show you guys later.

  2. Hate it :gay:!!!

Seriously though, made me take a second glance - our colors are really close so of course I think it looks awesome.

Would you terribly mind taking a photo of the tire clearance from the struts? That is one of my favorite sizes of 33's and I thought for sure it wouldn't fit with a 3.75" bs wheel (16x8).

From my limited knowledge, I don't think the stabalizer bar will help your centering issue. To center the wheels in the wheel well you probably have to think about adjustable trailing arms (longer), but I'd be concerned with driveshaft issues (if the axle gets futher away from the TX) and upper/lower coil spring perches lining up (if you rotate the axle so it lines up with the driveshaft better)....but again, this is all coming from a weekend mechanic. Or were you talking about centering them under the vehicle? If so, I had to get a panhard bar drop bracket to recenter them from right to left.

Super excited about your tire size selection though, way to go!

Sorry for taking so long to get that pic to you Rick.

I didn't think it would fit either but I have a friend who works at the tire shop where I bought them and he let me do a test fit. Love the way they look and drive. I actually followed your build and went with the same rear springs you did. The only thing I did different was added the NX4 spacers up front because I have the ARB bumper and winch that weighed the front down some.

  3. What size tire did you go with ... and I totally dig your choice of wheel!

Thanks man! I went with BF Goodrich KM2 305/70/16 and they fit great. I have about a quarter of an inch of space between the tire and the strut. I also went with Pro Comp Rock Crawlers 16x8 with 3.75" bs.

I feel like I need to extend the rear links to bring the rear wheels back to center them in the wheel wells. Anyone know if someone makes adjustable links?

I also want to re-install my rear sway bar but it doesn't fit. Does anyone make longer arms or quick disconnect links for the rear sway bar?

  4. I have BFG A/T on my 01 and have 66,000 miles on them and they still have a decent amount of tread left. I just bought a set of them for my wife's Xterra. I have had nothing but good things to say about them especially in the snow.

  5. Well, I have the SFD (still not installed, will get to it in the very near future) and the 1" Nx4 spacers. I will be installing both because I have the ARB bumper with a winch that puts enough weight on the front end that it has dropped 1". So when I have it all on, it will still have the 4" SFD and will be level front to back. All together it will have 2" 4x4parts suspension with the 4" SFD=6" lift. Can't wait!!!

So, if you plan on a bumper and winch, keep the spacers with the SFD.

    Hope this helps.

  6. what are the symptoms of a blown strut? I will check everything over again this weekend.

The front right wheel sounded like something broke. I was camping in Colorado offroad when it happened and I didn't think I was going to get down the mountain.

If I grabbed the wheel on the top and pulled it towards me it would move in and out (this is if I'm facing the side of the tire) with a clunking sound.

  7. I just got done building my new bumper and am hopefully going to be instaslling it this weekend; so I am taking my brush guard off and selling it; figured I would offer it on here first. It has definitly save me from ruining my pathy and has a bunch of life left in it. It will come with the mounting brackets but most likely going to have to cut the bolts that hold it in so you would have to get new ones. I paid $400 for it when I purchased it but I do not think I will get anywhere near that as it is used and has taken some abuse but is still good. I was thinking maybe $120 plus you pay shipping which I am also guessing to be around $40-50? I am keeping my offroad lights.

Which tires do you have on in this pic? Your path looks like my wife's Xterra. That looks sick.

  8. Dude, I went through the same thing about 4 months after I installed my 2" lift. (Haven't installed the SFD yet) When I would drive I thought my friggin wheel was going to fall off.

I replace the balljoint, then checked the wheel bearings and still couldn't figure it out. I kept over looking the suspension cause it was brand new. Turns out I blew a strut.

If you have the dust covers on the strut, pull it up while someone else stands inside the door while holding onto the roof rack. Have them rock the truck from side to side while you look at the strut.

I was pissed when I found this out because I had already replace the balljoint that had nothing wrong with it. Problem was I screwed it up removing it so I had to install the new balljoint. Oh well. Live and learn.

  9. No problem. I think a lot of us have done things differently than eachother, but we all talk the same game, so you could probably get quite a few differing opinions on lifts, rims/spacers, tires... Finding what works for you and your situation based on all our opinions/experiences has been interesting and fun for me over the past few years. Good luck.

But one more thing, if I could go back in time I would have gone with 3.25" backspace rims (like a Mickey Thompson II) instead of my 3.75" backspace Pro Comp steelies. That makes it quite a bit easier to go to 33"+ in the future...I had to select my 33" tire based on section/tread width and not just what tire I like best (mostly because I don't like spacers/adapters). Yet another opinion based on my personal experiences...

Hey Rick, I'm about to buy my wheels and tires so I'll have them ready when I install the SFD. Why do you wish you had the 3.25 bs wheels? I was going to get the 3.75 bs and BFG KM2s 285/75-16 which are 33.1". Do you think I should get the 3.25?

Also, I need to figure out what I'm going to do for the rear part of the lift. What are you planning on doing? Can't decide if I should get new springs that are long enough or have someone build me some spacers.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  10. how wide are your wheels? if they're stock wheels, 305 isn't going to happen and 285 is stretching it because IIRC, the minimum wheel width you should have for a 285 tire is 7.5" and the stock 16" wheels are 7" wide.

I'm planning on buying steel 16x8 wheels. My truck should look almost just like Rick13's. I have the same color blue but my bumpers and fender flairs are dark grey. And of course slightly larger tires if I can get them to fit. I might be getting the money needed to purchase the wheels, tires, and get the rears coil spacers made this week!!! I know what I'm doing over Christmas break!!!

  11. Sweet man, ill update the list. Be sure to post of pics of your truck when you do that lift!! I love to see other rigs with the same kinda setup.

And if you ever need any help with your install just PM me and ill send you my cell number that you can call me at if you have questions...same goes for everyone who is installing this lift. I know it can seem overwhelming but its not all that difficult

Thanks for the offer! You can count on hearing from me when the time comes. Probably January or so.

  12. Quite a list! :aok:

I'm going the one-time route with my install. I've learned piecing things together lead to problems so I'm going to get everything I need first, and then install it all at once. I'm hoping spring 2011.

That's what I'm doing too. I bought my complete SFD kit with steering parts, extended SS brake lines and all from Andrew/shift220 but just need to make the rear spring spacers and then I'm set. The big thing I'm waiting on is $$ for new tires.

Question on tire size. I can't decide if I should get the 285/?/16's or the 305/?/16's. They both measure out to be 33.1 inches in diameter. The 305 is just obviously wider. I'm getting the BFG M/T KM2s. Do you guys think the 305s will even fit?

  13. your either going to have to buy his spring conversion kit that uses jeep springs and then buy the jeep springs, order a set of custom springs like i did, or have someone make it for you.......

That's what I thought. How much did your custom springs run you? It's been a while since I've looked but didn't you get them from coilsprings.com or something like that? Would they have the specs for yours on file? I have a 4" SFD and 2" AC lift. Thanks man!

    Kevin

  14. Is anyone making rear spacers for sale yet? It's the only thing I need to complete my SFD. I bought the SFD kit from shift22 in early spring but he didn't sell the rear spring spacers. If I can get this on this winter, you can count me in for Gone Moab.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  15. I'm NOT an expert, but I'm guessing for that size tire you'd need anywhere from 8-10 inch wide rim. When I purchased my aftermarket rims, I went from 7" (stock) to 8" because I thought it might fit larger diameter tires better in the future. For some reason I think I'd be careful with going too wide on the rim (rubbing/clearance). What BFG tires are you going with? KM2's?

    Rick

Rick, yes I'm going with KM2's. I was going to get 16x9 wheels but one guy told me to get 16x10's. I'm probably going to stay with the 3.75" backspacing but don't know what width I need.

    Kevin

  16. Oh my God Dude, that looks soooo awesome!!!!! So what backspacing would be correct without adding spacers? I have a 4" SFD from Shift220 that I need to install. I currently have the AC 2" lift and am wondering what backspacing I need when I purchase my wheels. I don't want to have spacers if possible. I have a 2001 so I need 16 inch wheels and need to know what width and backspacing for the wheels. I'm planning on going with the 315/75x16 (BF Goodrich site says that's a 34.8" tire!!). I'm guessing the backspacing will be around 3"(?) to clear the strut but what width should I get? This has been baffling my mind. Looks great man!!!!

    More pics please!!!

    Kevin
