  1. I don't know why they would change it, but it defiantly says that synthetic is not recommended. There is a reason why Nissan edited that part of the book. Im gonna use standard Catrol GTX 5w30 winter/10w30 summer. Also about the "ticking", ive been using regular unleaded, I hear that this could cause a tick sound. Im gonna start using premium to see if this quiets this tick down at all. What do you think? Could the quality of gas be the culprit? I mean it does suggest to use Premium. Ill post back my outcome.
  2. I actually read it yesterday, I guess that why I chose 5w30 (its cold here). I also see that Nissan doesn't recommend using a synthetic oil in the pathfinder (at least that's what it says in my 2003 owners manual)
  3. Any reason why your going with 10w30 and not 5w30? Im asking because the book calls for 5w30 and that's what I ended up buying (im currently at 110,000 miles) Thanks
  4. I want to switch to full synthetic but I hear it may bring leaks because of having detergent in it. I was actually going to Walmart after work today to buy some mobil 1, do you buy the SUV kind? I notice they have a few to choose from. What kind of oil filter do you use? I bought a $13 Mobil 1 filter on the last change. Also, I would like to run synthetic in my tranny as well, do you have a recommendation? I put Super Tech in it about a week ago (took three drain and fills)
  5. Is your muffler bigger then what I have on my 03'? Im asking because I got those two bolts on pretty easily. Did the guy you bought the hitch from give you the two brackets with the nuts welded on them? Those brackets fit inside the frame for the bolt to screw into (if that makes any sense). I would at least try to get all 5 horizontal bolts in and consider using lock tite.
  6. Thanks! My wife is yelling at me for listing it up, haha. I don't know, the new body style really has my eye though. See my newly installed tow package? According to KBB.com, installing that tow package upped the value about $300, so I look at it as a pretty good investment being that I only spent $80 for it.
  7. In your opinion, is this a fair price? I'm planning on selling this and buying a newer 2005. Am I too high or too low? Honest opinions please. Thanks guys! http://reno.craigslist.org/cto/1611732813.html *EDIT*: Also, am I leaving out any options? Im pretty sure I got all of them.
  8. I also wanted to ask those who have installed this tow package, what did you do about wiring? Could I pull the wiring harness off the salvaged pathfinder I got the tow package off of? or would I just buy one at Walmart or something alike? Would I need to hard wire to my pathfinder or will there be an existing plug in ready to go? Thanks!
  9. I bought and installed my hitch today, it took about an hour to do and wasnt all that hard. I used the 6 bolts that came out of the existing brackets + the bolts that came with the hitch from the salvage yard. No cross threading occured, I used blue lock tite and think it acted as a lubericant for the bolts to thread in easily. I decided to use the lock tight only because I was reusing old hardware and the lock washers seemed to be wore out and ineffective, plus I dont plan on taking the tow package off. I found that taking the 4 12mm bolts out of the charcoal box (or whatever that box is called) and pushing it to the side helped a ton. With that said , the passanger side seemed to be the easiest. I balanced the hitch on a piece of wood that sat on my floor jack. Although I did call it a POS more then once,I feel that when you stay organizsd, have the right tools and think things out before diving into any project, really makes a difference in the outcome.
  10. Thats how I always did it, but The Nissan guy was saying somthing about adding it from the side of the tranny.
  11. Thanks man, thats what I sorta planned on doing. My tranny fluid isnt black, I dont know why I said that. It still has a clear tone to it, so im thinking the previous owners possibly did do a flush sometime during the 7 years. I dont think it would hurt to do a drain and fill a few times. But the question still stands, how do I put ATF into the transmission?
  12. I'm at 108,000 miles and my tranny fluid is pretty dirty. My question is, what are the pros and cons of a drain and fill? Today I noticed my pathfinder not shifting into over drive. What I notice is, while going 85mph up a slight grade I am at 4500 RPM and it wont shift into OD until I sorta let up off the gas petal. Im hoping a drain and fill will eliminate this issue. Other then this, it shifts like it suppose to. Your thoughts please. Thx! P.S, Should I go with what the ATF that is suggested out of my Haynes manual or something else? Do I need to buy any special tool to get the ATF inside the tranny?
  13. On my last oil change a few days ago, I added Patron plus formula 7. I know Petron is a very sticky/thick substance. I didn't hear this tick until I added this stuff, im wondering if this could be the issue? Maybe its so sticky that its hanging up a hydrolic lifter? After work im going to pick up 4 qts of 5w30 max life high millage and 2 qts of 5w30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. Im hoping the full synthetic will clean up that valve a bit and let things flow. Ill mix 4 qts of the conventional with 1 1/4 synthetic. I know synthetic can make leaky gaskets, but thats why im only going 1 1/4 mixture. I should have never used that additive...
  14. I changed it twice within 8 days. When I bought it (10 days ago), it was 3 qts. low and black...
