  1. Hope u feel better then.

I was gettin 12 mpgs and it was poping out the exhaust. it smelled rich and I suspected and injection problem but it was really gunked up vlalves not seating properly or letting proper flow arround them. I did some intensive cleaning measures directly to the valves and it is much better now

nice that sounds like quite the fun project! glad to hear that you got it taken care of it must have been a lot of work.

Im feeling much better now and was able to drive my truck and get around. It didnt last long though as my energy didnt go too far hehe

  2. no i didnt use anything like that. I even used nitrile gloves when dealing with any grease or anything like that too.

The ER test said that it was the flu, and I had not felt 100% the days before too. I think just working so hard out in the rain really set it off.

I finally get to eat some soup im excited! lol

It is such a great feeling to be able to drive my truck again and knowing I did it all makes it even better. What was going on with your truck?

  3. So I worked hard and got my truck finished. Well directly after I started to come down with something. At around 9 I started spilling my guts everywhere and ended up having to go to the ER until 4am! I just couldnt hold any liquids in. Man that sucked, and I still am trying to recover.

The good news is though, my truck runs and drives amazing now. No more grinding noises or wobbly front end. I thought the grinding I heard was my tranny. But it def was my front right bearing. Im so happy about it!

Anyways, look out for the flu bug, its a nasty one!

  4. I replaced mine a few years ago w/ some ebay stuff. It's molded, but nothing like a factory one so you'll have to work it a bit to fit nice. It was $100 or so and held up OK. I have since pulled it out and now have marine carpet in it like you use on boats. I didn't want to pay another $100 or whatever, so for $35 I'll see how that works out.

hey thats a pretty good idea! It can get wet and muddy and not have too many probs cleaning it. :aok:

  5. I'm guessing no one has ever replaced their carpet, lol

In my experience with carpeting, dynomat is the best way to go so later down the road your not dealing with all that crud under your carpet and getting moldy. So, if it were me, Id get the thin stuff and some dynomat. Plus it probably saves a ton of weight!

  6. Same here - condominium rule. If I do any work or clean the car, neighbors will give me a funny look, that dirty stare. That's why I'm parked facing the wall and did my oil change at like 2 in the morning.

haha your neighbors must have cobwebs on their cars or something... hmm and probably other places too... lmao!

  7. Yeah, been there...

Got bitched at for changing a flat tire because there was 'no working on cars allowed' rule. How's that for stupid??

    B

thats just plain mean! Hmm let me pay 150 bucks to tow my car across the street and change the flat. NICE. Some people were born without a heart, too bad we cant just throw water on them and they melt away!

  8. wow, what a day!

so I woke up and contacted the office and they let me keep my truck there to work on it. They were actually pretty cool about it. I guess as long as there isnt any oil changes going on they were somewhat ok with it.

So my package finally arrives and guess what, one of the tie rods is wrong... great. So I go to autozone and get two for 50 bucks that fit (ouch).

It starts to pour down rain. Great... again. So being the mac guyver that I am I took a tarp, two shopping carts tilted up on their backs, and made myself a "garage". Everything went pretty smooth from there on and here I am at 7pm finally DONE!!! P...:D

Oh wait, no I go to start the truck and... dead battery. Forgot I was blastin tunes all day lol... :headwall::blond:

So now I just wait until the GF gets home from work and Ill finally get to drive it for the first time in over 3 weeks. What a dilemma... Glad its over thought I tell you what!

p.s. yeah apartment life is like living on cloud -9...

  9. That sux!

Yeah move it to a new spot and lean some tires against it so it looks normal, lol.

I second the idea of talking to your superintendant - you have nothing to lose in asking for an extension.

lol Ive been leanin wheels on it all week. I cant put the wheels on and move it cuz some stuff was shot in there and just wansnt any good (my wheel was about to fall off type of deal)

I dont have the right kind of jack, and id be scared to move it and have it fall off. Plus im minus on the buddies part too.

  10. So my truck has been sitting for over 2 weeks at my apartments with no front wheels on it waiting for some new parts. Well today was the day Im supposed to get my package in to fix everything and low and behold the jerks post a tow warning on my truck.

UPS somehow "screwed up my address" which really means they didnt get here on time and the office closed at my apartments.

So I call UPS and finally get someone on the phone (after someone answering, leaving the phone on the table for like 10 minutes, and then crumpling paper at the mic, and hanging up on me) and they tell me its supposed to come tomorrow, at the same time... hmm - if the office was closed today, what makes you think they will be open after 6 tomorrow?????

I asked her if I could drive to Redmond to pick it up at the delivery post and shes like, well... no they wont want to dig it out of everything, its probably still on the truck for tomorrow.... Its the end of the day, the dang truck is EMPTY.

So it all adds up to, my trucks getting towed at 4pm tomorrow, my package is arriving when the office is closed, at 6:30, and Im broke.

    Someone shoot me, please? :thumbsdown::headwall::suicide::angry::rant2::owned::togo:

  11. As Adam said the transmission is on it's last legs. Currently it has Reverse, First, and Third. Second and OD are gone.

Another board member offered me his transmission from his parts car, but he got called to active military duty late last year. Once he gets back I will have a replacement transmission.

Otherwise it runs fine. I have two CV joints I need to install, but they need new boots before I put them on the truck (from UNCCPathfinder's parts pig, the boots on them look like they'd rip the first time I put it into 4hi). Haven't put them on as I haven't seen the point with it having a dead transmission.

Well its good to hear for the most part the rest of it is in good working order.

I want to ask you to save your old tranny for me when you get the new one. I'll help put it in if you need a hand too. Id like to tear apart your old one, and possibly rebuild it. Just for the knowledge alone. We can then work out something if you wanna keep it for a spare for later. I run a 5spd so I have no use for it- But I do intend to know up to the 95's like the back of my hand by the time Im old and wrinkly. =)

  12. well, if you are in oklahoma city, for some god forsaken reason, this summer, I might be able to use some help with mine (pizza, place to crash, or something for "compensation" lol)

I can totally understand the dedication of a passion. Computers are mine, but I can wrench; not the best in the world, but I do what I can. If I ever won the lottery, I would try for something like UTi, just to learn more about my second biggest (and more expensive) hobby.

    2AM installing a radio? Just_Cuz_12.gif

Hey, I am always down for a good road trip! I mean thats what the pathy was made for- you get a mobile hotel that can drive over stuff!

Call me crazy but I was excited when I bought my stereo late that night lol :crossedwires:

I have to ask, why cant you go to UTI? If your really serious about it, there are ways to pay for it. Financial Aid, Grants, Loans, Scholarships... Im broke as all hell and dedicated myself to finding a way. You could too! :D

  13. for now, this is fine. once you graduate, you are no longer a guy wrenching, you are a mechanic. Mechanics get paid, always remember that. always expect compensation (pizza and beer are acceptable forms of compensation, just don't be "free").

Kudos on the choice. I think these schools are great. don't be one of the d-bags that quits, half way through. the rewards are totally worth sticking it out, regardless of what's going on.

Well just for the record, I dont help out just anyone- and have respect for mechanics and paychecks alike. But you guys are my second family and I am the meaning of dedication. Only NPORA members get me to work for "free" (I did say I require gas money), and on our pathy's at that. You have a dodge mini-van? Well thats another story. lol...

Also I dont mix beer and cars, thats dangerous.I like to keep it professional. Pizza is good though!

Ive been through a lot of really rough times in my life, money being a big root to it. So to have someone say they will come over and give you a hand working on stuff I think would be a great blessing to the many unfortunate who are just as deserving as the next guy. All in all, the more buds I get to wheel with the better, and if thats what it takes, I have no problem helping out! To see the smile on peoples faces when they learn a little and get there truck going would be worth it to me over any money in the world. Hands down.

Im not really the sort of guy to move hundreds of miles to mess around. I mean serious business. Im not there to party, to slack off, or worse- quit altogether. Im there to start my career in auto mechanics and it truly is my passion. I mean, even installing my stereo at 2am with my gf holding a flashlight and shes saying "im really tired can we give it a rest?" and im elbow deep under the dash "almost done!! just a few more minutes!!" To me this is the calling Ive been waiting for and Im not letting any chance to get ahead slip by me. Im very fortunate to be accepted. Only 15 students per recruiter (@100/month) get accepted and I was his top choice, just by one conversation over the phone. Thats gotta say something?

  14. Hey welcome Dirty no good deeder! lol jk jk!

Ill be moving to sacramento soon and attending uti. Hopefully Ill get to see some of your work sometime when I get down there- heck, maybe ill end up owning some of your systems!

 cheers to you, and doing what we love! :D

  15. Congrats dude!

I'm about 150 miles south of Sacramento. I have a couple of friends who live up there

I'v always wanted to go wheeling up near Mt Lassen (about two hours north of Sac), but until I get enough money to fix the pathy that's not happening anytime soon

Oh sweet! ...and not so sweet. haha- If there is anything I can help with let me know! Id be glad to help- heck maybe while Im at school theyll let me take your rig in to fix on it.

What kind of troubles are you having with it?

  16. If you didnt see the dragster often you still saw it more than me! I never got to see any toys or meet any race team, but I still enjoyed the school. If the rule still stands we can go back and retake individual classes or the whole course once for free. Maybe when I retire I can go catch up on the new stuff.

    James

Yeah they totally will still let you do that! Its probably one of the coolest things about the school and shows they care about their students a lot. Maybe this time 'round youll get a peak at the dragster =)

  17. Hey, if you feel up to driving down from Everett, I could show you around the Infiniti dealer and show you what you are in for!

Dude, that sounds awesome! Once I get some info on my schedule for the next little while I'll let you know. What is your time frame/schedule looking like? It would be great to get some insight into the field first hand. Ive been around shops quite a bit but nothing as professional as that.

Also (I will have to send you a PM with the info when I get it) I was wondering if I could use you for a reference to get a scholarship. Being that you went to UTI and are now a pro in your fields of study I think that would be one of the best references I could get!

    Again, thank you so much!

  18. I have a custom exhaust and a stock tailpipe from NAPA and thats how it came out.

This is the tip I got:

    http://www.amazon.com/Superior-28-6202-Stainless-Steel-Exhaust/dp/B000CPAW2O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1266096034&sr=1-4

Hey that looks nice man, cant wait to see it on! :aok:

Just thought of another thing, if you ever bang up a clamp on, you can just get another and slap it on! =)
