  1. OK guys - job complete! Took the floor jack and a small block of wood, lifted the left side up at the frame; threw a couple jack stands under the frame (driver-side, just ahead of the muffler-cat converter interface) and went about unbolting the muffler and tailpipe from its mounts and finally from behind the cat. Once it was dropped down, fishing it out wasn't too hard, with the extra space created above the axle. I needed my wife to help guide it out from the back over the axle, while I guided the heavier muffler end out from under the driver side. To install the new muffler, I found it helpful to remove the gas tank shield first. New one went in without too much trouble. My biggest concern was to avoid scratching it up and giving corrosion an early chance to take hold again. Mission accomplished. Ran it up and down the street and it sounds great again. The whole project was prompted by my discovery that the heat shield on the top of the old muffler had rusted on the ends and was just laying on top of the muffler rattling every morning, until it became hot enough to settle down from expansion. When I discovered that, I also noticed that the rubber piece to the muffler mounting bracket, which stabilizes the muffler and cat to the frame, was broken. Can't tell you how many months I listened to that intermittant rattling before I finally realized it was coming from the muffler. Anyway, it's now fixed - thanks for the help!
  2. Hey - thanks for tips. Sounds doable. I'm from Oregon, but live in Virgina right now. I'll need to get a hold of a Hi_lift, as all I have is a floor jack and jack stands. I'm guessing you need the axles to sag to create the space necessary to wriggle this thing out. Where's the best place to lift the frame with the Hi-Lift? Appreciate the advice!
  3. Hey all, Looking for tips on how to remove the muffler/tailpipe assembly out from under my '95 Pathy SE 4x4. Getting the bolts off was no problem...but how can I twist it out of position and remove the tailpipe portion out from over the back axle? I was working on this in my garage with only jackstands. I was hoping to not have to put it up on a lift. Seems like the obstacle is the fuel tank cover and maybe the fuel tank itself (tailpipe rubs against it every time), but I'm not sure if there is enough clearance to the garage floor to twist it out of there. Will also need to be able to put the new one back in without tearing it up (otherwise, I'd be chopping this one up already). I tried for an hour, and finally quit, to come look in the forums - but no joy so far. Any suggestions welcome-thanks!
  4. On the subject of the door speakers, I went with Infinity Kappa 682.7cf 5"x7" (Shallow Mount) 2-Way Speakers in the doors and the back...no modifications required, though I had an audio store do the install so i wouldn't muck it up! Speakers sound great with the exception of the right door speaker making a vibrating sound. I don't think it's the speaker... think it is some loose molding or something rattling in there. I'm going to be taking the door panel off tomorrow to investigate the noise. I'll follow k9sar's instructions on door panel removal. Any other tips are appreciated!
