  1. I have an 87 pathy that i am putting the manual into (as you all know very well by now lol). everything but the front drive shaft and t bars are in. i am now trying to figure out the electrical. I found out a few things about my wiring harnesses that might help ya'll a little.

    (harnesses going from front to back in length)

    Main harness has folowing wires (first color has most on the wire);

    White (W)

    Green (G)

    Green/Yellow (G/Y)

    Blue/Black (B/BL)

    Blue/White (B/W)

    Blue/Red (B/R)

    Black/Red (Bl/R)

    Red/Black (R/Bl)

    Second harness has;

    Black/Red

    Yellow

    Third;

    White

    Fourth;

    Brown (Br)

    Black/Red

    Fifth;

    Black

    Sixth;

    Yellow

    (sorry no pics i can get some if you really need me too)

    Now i discovered that the folowing combinations on the main harness iluminate the corisponding lights/gear choice on the dash:

    W+G/Y=Park

    W+R/Bl=Reverse (also turns reverse lights on)

    W+G=Neutral

    W+B/R=Drive

    W+B/BL=D2

    W+B/W=D1

    W+R/BL= nothing (ground?)

    So sam said you have to trick the truck into thinking its in park to start it. Well since the dash said it was in park with W+G/Y. I thought that it would turn over. Well to no avail i got nothing with the wire combination. i also tried starting it in Neutral. As well as the combo W+G/Y+R/Bl Why is it not turning over? Is it that the wires i am playing with are nothing more than lights in the dash? Touching more than two at a time to the W wire (excluding the R/Bl wire) will blow a fuse for the dash (blew a crap loud just to confirm this). I have not messed with any of the other harnesses mainly due to I do not know what they are for exactly. Also I am unsure on what exactly the last two harnesses are for. I know that they connect to the transfercase but exactly what sensors I am dealing with is beyound me :blink: . Can you help me in this? What do i need to connect to get it to turn over?

    Oh yea :itsallgood: the short was a blown 10 amp fuse I skipped or missed or something the night I was looking at them all. Its fixed and now all dash lights work again.

  2. a search on google provided no information to me. it makes no sense to me that our transmisions would be the only ones out there that have bronze syncros in there. how can they say that an oil GL-1,4,5 would be bad if it meets requirements for GL-4. it must if its listed in the list which means that it cant have the sulur addative you all talk about. Did nissan lie to me and say its fine so that i would come back tot hem in the futur? i am thinking about it for a fill up and then its their fault if it fails.

  3. WHY would nissan say GL-5 would be ok and that is what they would add to the tranny if i were to take it to them if its not ok? I added lucas 80w90 GL-5 after taking the bottle to Nissan and asking "Will this hurt my manual transmiossion in my 87 pathfinder?" he replied "No we use GL-5 rated lubes in our fill ups and flushes."

    oh yea i also asked about the TSB. They had no such TSB in any records they have at the shop.

  4. so how am i too test these? i dont know squat about wiring. though i did wire my sterio up the other night i gave up on the engine electrical. (had no idea the speakers were aftermarket bosch, they kick azzzzzzzzzzzzzz big time)

  5. ok well i got the two wires that make the truck think its in park hooked up. (the light on the dash says P). but then i turned the key off and then turned it back on to ACC and i blew something cause now the dash does not work. nothing turns opn like ist supposed to. the battery signale does not even jump. any clues?

  6. ok so i got a wiring diagram from nissan and i thikn i know what wries i need to splice as extreme was saying above. but i am not too terribly sure it is from an 88 pathfinder instead of the 87 like i have but i dont think they changed any thing.

    it says on the diagram A/T Control unit is this the harness that plugs into the tranny? and what color does L stand for?

  7. i dont want to wire it up i just know that you have to do something to the wiring to get the truck to start and then there is the revers lights. and on another thread it said that some harnesses are not used (like which ones?)

  8. yea and there is one bolt that is not long enough that i ordered the length fromt he manual you sent me sam and its not working. i stripped two threads out using the bolt.

    ok sounds good max. i figured you would get em for me.

  9. i know there are a lot of guys doing a 5spd conversion right now so i figured some one will have these bolts lying around for the install. i need pics of all the bell housing bolts (that are used for the 5spd) and the starter bolt/nut (if there is one). help please?

    ben

    :help:

  10. do a fluid swap change the filter and get a cooler on it. even if you get a cooler and it still blows up on you. you can use the cooler on the new tranny. (coolers are almost madatory with the pathy autos) if it ran smoother with more fluid it way be you just need new fluids. IMO

  11. i really hope your talking to trance and not me lol. i am a 100% newbee. learning as i rip stuff off and put it back on. i could use a hand putting stuff back on if any one wants to just hang out and do some wrenching?

  12. mods are not my big thing right now its just getting my truck running. i am still finishing my tranny conversion. and then after that some time this summer i am going to have to do a timing belt job on it. or as everyone else says ASAP. 203,xxx miles with i dontk now how long since the last belt change. the drive belts are ok looking as i recall. but it pretty much needs a complete overhaul tune up.
