ACP97SE

Well, I think the axle changed somehow around the end of '96, for the '97 production year because when you look up the axle at online used parts places they ask if it was manufacured before or after a certain date in late '96. I know it has the HG46 axle and I think I read somewhere that the spline count changed around 97 so that could also contribute to it. I dont think that every h233b ever made was identical. I saw the one they originally got and it was the same as my old one, just the spring mounting brackets had a different number of holes in them for mounting. I've read on other off-roading themed message boards about the hg46, and everybody seems to want one, but say they're so rare and expensive. I don't think many people on this site ever have to deal with replacing them because they're bulletproof, so I guess not many people have a good idea of the value of one. I have no clue how the gear originally got messed up. When I got it in Sept. it had a small whine that only got worse. When I changed the fluid originally it was very metallic looking with a lot of shavings. The shop said the fluid was the same looking, just three months later.

The differential in my '97 SE is toast and I took it to a local driveline shop. They're telling me that the rear axle for my 97 with LSD is hard to find, and you don't even wanna know how much they're wanting to charge me. They had a used one sent out but the squarish mounting plates on top of the axle had different holes so they had to send it back. I don't know much about the axles in these things but I don't think it could be that rare...Any info would help.

On mine it's on the passenger side at the front part of the engine bay.

no, I'm wondering if it has one stock?? If it does I don't wanna have the air blowing through a dirty filter from the previous owner. My g/f had one behind the glove box on her mazda 6 and it was nasty when I changed hers.

Does my '97 have a cabin air filter? There's someone on E-bay selling a real nissan part and claims its for all 97 and up Nissans. I figured it's not right but wanted to check with you guys.

I'm just poking around on crutchfield, and the site is telling me that even if I have the non bose system I'm going to need some kind of connector that has level adjustors and costs $50?? I thought that was only with the bose systems? I've just got the stock cd player/tape combo. What gives?

I know the radiator looks new, and a coolant hose was replaced, but that's about all I know for the cooling system. I'm pretty sure it's not leaking any more though. I'll see if I can dry it out and keep it dry.

Turns out the floor was probably soaked from something before I got it. The drain from the evaporator was working fine. Once water gets to that pad under the carpet it's pretty much sealed in by the rubber pad above it. So I'll have to be shoving towels in there to soak it up and prop up the carpet for hours to come trying to get it to dry.

It has been raining lately, but before I consider a possible rain leak I'm gonna try looking at the drain plug and tray system thing. I know it might be a little different on the R50 models, put it cant be too much different. I'll check it out and let you guys know.

I was feeling around on the floor of the front passenger seat today and I felt a wet spot. When you press on the carpet harder, water seems to squish upward. The insulation underneath is soaking wet as well. I'm thinking the evaporator is leaking into the interior. How can I check this, and/or remedy the problem?? Any ideas?

Well, just did another check of all the hoses around the intake, as I had done 3 times before. Buuuuuut, this time I found a small hose that went from the EGR solenoid thing to the bottom of the throttle body that was disconnected. I'm hoping this will be it, so far after driving it around the block I've got no light.

So the knock sensor itself wont trigger a light? It said something about mafunction in bank 1. I don't remember the code for the EGR, but it was something about EGR flow I think. I'll try and get it in soon for the rear problem. Thanks.

Hey, just purchased a '97 SE with 86k miles a few weeks ago. Since the actual day I got it the SES light came on, and has given me the codes for Knock sensor malfunction, as well as an EGR valve problem. Before I got it the used car place had to replace the valve-cover gaskets, which involved the removal of the upper intake, and subsequently they probably screwed around near both of the code causers. Do you think that had something to do with it?? So, even if I want to replace the knock sensor or just put a resistor on it, how do I get to it? Next problem, the rear end sings kind of loudly from about 30 to 70mph. It only sings when you put your foot on the gas. I changed the diff fluid the day I got it and the fluid was a kind of metallic greyish color. I put new fluid with LSD additive in and it made no change in the noise. Do you all think I have to get the rear rebuilt or what? I'm looking forward to talking with everyone on the board as I am a new member. Thanks.
