1987 Pathfinder. Traded a broke motorcycle for this find. The body is in excelent shape but the interior was flat out disgusting. I'm working on cleaning out the interior now and trying to get the vehicle emissioned (MAF Sensor, I think). Also has a front end issue, knocks when you turn and feels loose at times... Should be a fun project vehicle though.

  1. Ok, I've seen this a few times. What I usually find is that one of the two power supplies (switched or unswitched) is not "open". You get the radio to power up but it reads incorrect voltage at one source or the other and goes into safe mode. Check to make sure you have power at both wires before you move on to anything else...
  2. Thanks! I can't even begin to show how much it's appreciated!
  3. There is one that comes off the tbi to the air filter housing but this one is not it unless it goes to a spot further along the intake (pre-filter)....
  4. All, I recently got a wd21 CHEAP! It has issues though. The first issue I'm trying to tackle is the mess of vacuum lines that the previous owner left me... I have found most of them using the Vacuum diagram from other areas of the forum but this one seems to be elluding me and I know its the cause of some of my engine issues... Here is the picture of the one end that I know it belongs to, does anyone know where the other end goes?
  5. The really sad part of it all is, I'm a smoker and had a hard time with the smell...
  6. No argument about that. Thats why i recomend against using a hammer...
  7. IDK man, if its a new starter the brushes should be fine. I've only found that the hammer trick works when the brushes or windings are bad. Put a cupple "pecker tracks" on a new starter and there goes the warranty...
  8. I've been sorting through this site off and on for a while now... Just joined myself. I'm trying to get out again this weekend myself but still trying to make sure my "Project" is gonna run the whole time... (needs plenty of work!) Welcome.
  9. Thats what I was thinking but I didnt find it until recently and I beleive I found where it is supposed to go.... find out tonight when I finally get another chance to pop the hood.
  10. I haven't check for codes yet, (Just read the article on how last night.) but the truck has a new tps sensor, new head/valves/gaskets and I cleaned the Air Flow Meter (OMG! The parts guy at a Empire Nissan threw an absolute fit when I called it a MAF sensor. ROFL!). I've started hunting in neighborhood junk yards for possibly replacing the TBI completly... I also found a vacum line that isnt attached to anything but I plan on taking a picture of it to see if anyone know where its supposed to end.... On a side note, I took the truck up to Rampart Rang yesterday to see if I could get stuck in the mud and ended up using it (completly stock w/ crappy tires) to drag my partners Dakota out of puddles!
  11. Its surging... We think we may have fixed it last night but now dealing with a new problem. We turned down the idle and found that the surging went away but now we are fighting oil pressure issues... Figures!
  12. Colorado really does have a lot of Pathy's wandering the streets. The really sad thing is that 99 out of 100 are never used off road...
  13. Hello all, names Gary. I recently traded an old motorcycle for a 87 Pathfinder... I'm not new to Pathfinders and have used these forums for info in helping friends repair and upgrade their trucks. Up until yesterday, I've never owned one. Now, I have one and it needs some work. The engine has new valves and guides but still has idling issues. The front end needs a complete rebuild but is holding together for now. AND THE INTERIOR IS TRASHED! It took me three days and two bottle of frebreze to get the smell of cigarette smoke out. But now its cleaned up and in a drivable condition. The body is in superb shape! I'll keep everyone posted on my work with this beauty. Here are some pics....
