Not only will your truck look less mall-crawler with the tire mounted safely out of harms way, custom rear bumpers add like 30HP.
Really!? j/k

I wonder if there is a write-up someone has one this or is it really easy to do. I looked over the How To's and didn't see anything. Hey MichiganAve you can take the lead on this....
-
Um, lets see not sure what trail we took from S22 down to Pumkin patch but we also did 17 palms, 5 palms (?) and maybe 1 palm (not sure I mean it was just 1 palm) LOL ~ We probably were doing a bunch of trials just to get to pumkin patch. I was with a 4x4 club so they were leading and I was tagging along.

(in beginning) A few times lightly rolling (4HI) my whole driverside lifted up then abruptly fell back down....WTF! Anyway I had to leave it in 4HI the whole way home and even now but not driving it anymore till I can get these items in.

Why are you replacing the CV axles? Are the boots torn?
Oh, well they've been torn for quite a while and they finally grenaded on me recently 4bying at Anza-borrego. It must have been all those washes we ran through (most of the runs). Anyway they made some loud grinding noises and at full lock it became even worst.
-
Okay so I've read Dean's write-up and others on R&Ring the CV axles e.g. watching for the thrust washer, brake lines, etc. (I also downloaded the Service Manual for my rig) Is there anything else I have to watch for? I'll be putting on Warn Manual Hubs as well.
I was also wondering about the whole re-greaseing the CV axle.
What parts do I have to grease and what kind of grease? (any multi-purpose)
Any "Special" tools I need? I have snap-ring pliers already.
Please any advice would be greatly appreciated as I will rip into it this weekend. Oh yeah, how much time should I estimate for a first time try?
-
Yeah its located at the very top of this forum.

Yeah I guess I'm more worried about the clanging sound cause that has to be metal-to-metal hitting and I just don't want it to be grinding or damaging anything else other than the CV. I'll keep my fingers crossed I think my part comes in on TUesday. Thanks guys for the info.

Yeah your just going to have search like crazy all the pathfinder boards to see what certain individuals have done to gain power out of their VG33 - it won't be extreme but I think it has great potential to be a very decent and capable off-road motor. Like Turbopath said 98Silverpathy said that the cams worked great his pathy just had other underlying problems. Anyway there is a great pool of knowledge here so welcome and don't hesitate to add to it!

So I've been running with the boots cut on my CV joints for a while but it took a weekend of 4bying in silt and long washes for my driverside to grenade on me. Alright not completely fail but its F'd up. I was able to drive home but only in 4HI (not sure exactly why that is)
So if I had Manual Hubs I could just unlock them and drive around in 2wd no problem correct?
Also I can drive around with no Half-Shafts right? I'm pretty sure I read this but not 100%.
I'm getting them replaced (whenever I receive my new shafts in the mail along with my hubs) but I was wondering if it was such a good idea to still be driving around. I'm not on the FWY and I'm still in 4HI. It wasn't too bad for the better part of the week but today its really making alot of racket.
SO basically - By me driving around still am I messing things up that I'll have to replace more than just the shafts? What else should I be concerned with?

I know this is pretty much what the final car will look like but I'm still dying to see the absolute finished product.
As far as price goes $70k is not bad considering it's aim is cars like the Porshe911Turbos which cost $125k. It'll be right up there (price wise) with the american cars ZO6 and viper. Wouldn't mind having that [dream state] the Pathy for the off-road trails; the Titan for ... whatever the hell I want it for; and the Skyline for just going FAST whenever I want! Droooooool

No, infinitiqx4me had 285-75-16 SSRs (33.9"). 16s, not 15s.
Hah Ha~! I stand corrected!
Anyway this is how far mine stick out with 31x10.5 and 3.75 bs. Image

Anybody tried 15x8s on a 1998 or other early QX4? I'm hoping it is a long-running myth that they won't clear the brakes, but I don't know anybody who has tried.
I have 15x8 with 3.75 bs and they fit fine. I have 1998 Pathy LE you should have seen the stock wheels on this thing it looked like bicycle rims I think there was a member on AC "Matt" that already had the 4.5" lift he had a QX4 and was running 34" tires on 15" wheels.

Alright i'll look into that, yeah maybe it is the acrobat reader. I'm looking to print the Front axle section for now as I have to change both Half-shafts soon and most likely the hubs as well. Probably see me posting questions here in a couple of days. But I've found some good "How To's" so that will be very helpful.

Has anyone downloaded these files for the Manuals and Printed them successfully?? I downloaded them and then needed to down load some software to read them but when I tried printing them.... well the info comes...intermittent. Not sure I explained that correctly but when looking at the printed page theres "lines" through it so it like trying to read something through window blinds. Checked the printer and its fine. Are we not supposed to print these manuals?! Or is it the 'rar' software that I downloaded. It said I'm using the trial version ... but would that matter?>Help!
-
That brings up another thing - Dean if you pursue getting cams regound I'm assuming you have an idea on Headers (unless you've already changed those out  )
-
98silverpathy- Do you still have the original cams somewhere? If so, I'd be interested in them. They can be reground cheaper than new JWT cams.
Hmmmmmm reeeaally?!
98Silverpathy - like everyone else I was watching the progress to see what came of it and I'm sorry it never worked out for you and I can only find solace in the possibility that your car, like you explained, had underlying problems before the cams. Anyway bunch of luck to you!

What type of document are those manuals in? I can't seem to open them. Also are these the manufacturer Service manuals?
-
Eh I just remembered I have heated leather seats in this thing...never use em though. I'll have to agree on the leather seats and summer it sucks driving with no shirt on but other than that .... leathers not soo bad.

Yeah...Those are scary!
I contacted Proflex Suspensions a while back. They make the suspension for the Dakar Rally R50s. I inquired about custom coilovers and gave them the specs I wanted. I was quoted $3,000US for a pair of fronts.
That's what you'd get though...and those are SEXY.
:o Ho...ly.....Chit! Dakar Racing huh? I agree those look damn sexy
Now I wonder how wide those springs are? (the DAkar ones and the AMR's) cause they look 'skinnier' wouldn't that mean we wouldn't have to worry about the rubing issues with wider tires?

Just looked at the 5 most recent topics, and finally decided that the aftermarket is blowing up for us. 4" lift, winch front bumper, custom rear bumper, 35's, and SAS talk. These discussions are going in the right directiond, don't ya think?
Hell yeah these are some exciting times!! I'm especially digging the SAS topic - would love someone to figure that one out. Too bad I don't have any fabing skills so I can help contribute
-
Thanks for the info Dan!

Granted, there is an "easy" way to do it....Strip the under side of the R50, and mount the body on a 77-84 Big Bronco chassis. It'll match up almost perfectly. Wheelbase is only 1" off, and the track is about 4-6" wider on the big Bronco than the R50. You could then use the Big Bronco chassis, and drop in any motor and axle combo you want.
Wouldn't that make our rigs alot more heavy then they already are? I mean I thought our rigs are really heavy compared with the XJ thats why its even more of a chore to SAS the R50....no?

wow $26 k at the mo.
you can pick up gq petrol shortys in oz for about $6 or 7 k. you would get something great for $10 k.
Wow if we had a bunch of those in the US going for $6-7K you would see a whole bunch of them modified and trail ready.
