  1. My 99 Pathfinder had the automatic transmission replaced about a month ago because of failure. I had it replaced with a Nissan Factory Transmission. It has a 1 year or 12k mile warranty and I am concerned that it is having problems. The issue is when I put in reverse to back up, then place in drive, there is a 2 second pause before it engages so I can accelerate. If I attempt to accelerate prior to engagement, there is a jolt and clank noise. When I first drove it after the tranny replacement, it did not have the shift pause. Prior to getting the tranny replaced, this was the first sign of failure. It lasted around a year before the planetary gear gave up the goose. Could this be a transmission problem or is it the Trans. Control Unit? What could be the problem? Thanks, jeff
  2. My 99.5 Pathy's A/C compressor has been making a rattling noise when engaged. Is this potentially a sign of it about to die and if so, is there an oil charge that may help? Thanks, jeff
  3. Tyler: You stated that the spacers would ship 2 weeks ago but I still don't have them. Did you have problems? :tonguefinger:
  4. Thanks for the followup. I will need your install notes because I've seen a few variations on the install from the forum. How is the fitment? Can you take a snapshot of them and post? Jeff
  5. 105,000 miles or 84 months according to my 99.5 Pathy owners manual. I have ~80,000 miles on mine and I'm going to wait until 105K even though it is past the limit on the years.
  6. There is about 2" of height before the hinges reach there max.
  7. Speaking of tired of hitting head, are there any aftermarket lift gate struts that help the gate raise HIGHER!
  8. Hey tmorgan. How are the spacers working out? Keep us informed.
  9. I have the 6 bolt 99.5 Pathy SE 16" Alloys with black rails. I'm interested. I'll PM you.
  10. I serviced it about 6K miles ago. Fluid level is ok. As far as starting off in 2nd, I have never heard that before. Used Castrol Dex III/Mercon as owners manual states Nissan D fluid or Dex III Mercon.
  11. I noticed my 99 Pathy transmission slipping under moderate to hard acceleration. Also, it seems to be starting off in 2nd gear on occasion. I serviced it about 6K miles ago and everthing looked fine; no metal in pan, etc. Any suggestions?
  12. Positive feedback. Thanks for the replies. Case closed.
  13. Vengeful: I here what you are saying but your statement assumes everyone locks their doors upon entering the vehicle. I don't think that it has to do with being in an accident.
  14. Maybe I'm a little a N a l, but is there a way to open a locked pathy door by modifying the inside door handle? As we all know, if you pull on the inside handle when the door is locked, you must unlock the door first before exiting. Most vehicles you can unlock from the inside by pulling on the handle. Just a thought - no flames, please... Jeff
  15. Thanks for the first hand experiences. I will change the shocks at the rear and see if the bottoming dissipates. BTW, the Rancho stock number of the rear shocks is RSX17122. It is not adjustable according to the literature at Amazon.com. Jeff
  16. I am purchasing the Rancho RSX rear shocks for my 99 Pathfinder 2wd and need to know if I should also consider changing the coils. The previous owner pulled a small fishing boat with the pathy and I am noticing alot of bottoming out on road dips and bumps. Should I change the OEM springs and shocks or just the shocks? Thanks, Jeff
  17. I have 70K miles on my pathy I bought used a few months ago. I picked up a filter kit at O'Reilly's and fluid. They didn't have the Castrol DextronIII/Mercon and the sales rep. stated that the O'Reilly's Multipurpose ATF is rated for Dextron III/Mercon. So I bought it and wanted to check with the brains on this forum to see if I made a mistake (gut feeling). Should I wait until they have the Castrol brand or is the Multipurpose ATF by O'Reilly's ok? Thanks, jeff
  18. Second check and is dumping out of a tube mounted on top of the bell housing. Is this supposted to have a rubber hose on it because it doesn't?
  19. Fluid level is good. It only happened when I accelerated briskly with rpms around 6000 to 6500 traveling at 75 to 80mph. I was reading another forum post that said to check the turbine sensor on the top of the transmission.
  20. I will not make you relive what my wife and I have lived the past 2 months. I am having major issues with my 99 Pathfinder we purchased on July 8, 2006. I had it in the dealership service dept. for a month to change out the lifters on right bank. While in the shop, I had the O2 sensor, timing belt, tensioner, and water pump changed. Now the fun starts. Picked it up last week and noticed that it started surging at 40-45mph and stalling from a stop. Then the check engine light illuminates...then it goes off...then on!? I brought it back to the dealership and they said I needed to provide a spark plug changeout and fuel system service. Keep in mind; none of this was happening prior to having them change the timing belt and 02 sensor. I drove the pathy home today and changed the plugs and went back with the NGK platinum plugs. I then cleaned the throttle body. More fun; test drove it on the highway and accelerated briskly up to 80mph and noticed lots and lots of smoke and a oily film hitting the rear windshield! I pulled over and transmission oil is everywhere. Got it home and dried off the oil underneath and spent about a hour trying to find the source of the oil but couldn't. The gaskets look fine and nothing leaking from the linkage. I need some serious help on this one. This is driving me insane. Where do I start. thanks,
  21. The service manual I just read indicated that if the valve lifters are noisy, they need adjusting. So the 3.5L evidently needs routine valve lash adjustments I presume? Thanks, jeff
  22. I am considering buying an 01 Pathfinder SE with the 3.5L engine with 75K miles on engine. I had the vehicle checked and everything is ok except for lifter noises. After reaching operating temperature, I notice the noise at idle. Increasing the throttle at idle does not make the noise go away. I need to know if this is "normal" for the 3.5L and if not, what adverse condition could happen? I am meeting with the dealer rep tomorrow for yes or no on the pathfinder. :help: Thanks, Jeff 99.5 Pathfinder SE 99 Pathfinder XE
  23. Yes, the rpm changes. What is the best diff fluid to use?
