  1. jbpathy, I still have the factory speakers and stereo. First my front speakers stopped working, than they started working for a few days. All of a sudden the front and rear quit. I figured the amps crapped out so I went to a junkyard and bought the front and rear amps as well as the speakers and stereo. I changed the amps and still had nothing. So now I'm thinking well were the junkyard amps NFG or what? I ended up swapping the stereo and now all is well, but I'll tell you this ONE more problem with this stereo and it all gets ripped out! Speakers, amps, stereo, and wiring. I can handle working on stuff but not the same thing over and over ya know? If anyone needs the wiring colors for specific speakers I wrote down the wire colors to all the speakers except the passenger front which was smashed on the donor rig. I figured it was a good time to figure out the wiring while tearing the junk rig apart, just in case I need to bypass my wiring and dont want to have to tear all the panels off to see which wire goes to which speaker. I can be reached at nhpstudios@pshift.com
  2. I just spent a whole lot of time with my own radio problems with a 93 XE. The amp behind the radio runs the rear speakers and the one behind the passenger side cargo panel runs the front speakers. Is it just me or is that just silly? I mean why wouldn't the factory try to run as short as possible wiring? I changed both front and rear amps in mine trying to get my sound back just to find out the damn factory radio was NFG . I tell you, the sound system in this thing is just odd, From the impossible to find 5X7 speakers to the front/rear amplifier thing. Would it have been too much to ask for a line level stereo and four speakers? Rant Over
  3. My wife's XTerra came with a retractable cover for the rear hatch from the factory. It is removable and all you would have to do is fab up a holder. Check your junkyard for XTerras. BTW Hers is an "02 Good luck!
  4. I am in North Hyde Park, Vermont
  5. How much ya gotta get for it? You can drop me a line if you want. nhpstudios@pshift.com
  6. I need a power amplifier for my 93XE is yours still for sale?
  7. I drilled out the rivets and removed the fabric. I than cleaned the entire intake box and tubes. I also pulled the plug out of the pipe that goes over the radiator. Seems to run/sound the same. Thanks for the info!
  8. The fabric is inside the box. Wow, a dump fire? I bet that's a tuff one to put out!
  9. I did a quick search but found nothing. I changed my air filter a week or so ago and noticed some fabric attatched to the bottom of the box. Mine had been chewed on by mice and covered with the damn grease undercoat that totally covers my engine compartment. What is that fabric for? Also, what does the 1" or so plastic tube that goes from the air cleaner box to the top of the radiator do? I see it is plugged at the end so it's not like there is any air moving thru it. I am thinking about drilling the rivots that hold the fabric in and really cleaning the box out. I just dont want to ruin anything ya know? Thanks John
  10. Did you have it made special or make it yourself? Mine is gettin really rusty and I think I might go aftermarket. I love the look of yours and might go that route.
  11. I looked at clearlights but it doesn't list my 1993 XE? Help a fella out?
  12. Installed the switch from the junkyard and it works great. All for the price of a 10 minute drive and a buck!
  13. How much per bag for the Zip ties 88? I use them all the time around here
  14. I'm in north central vermont. Thanks for the offer! I'll check my amp when the rig gets back and let ya know. BTW how much you askin for your amp?
  15. I have some speakers hanging around so I'll check the output of my amp before I go buy one. The folks at my local junkyard are really good people so if the one I get from them is NFG they will give me a refund. It's one of the perks of living in a small backwoods town I guess!
  16. Yeah all stock amps speakers and radio. So what's the deal do these amps burn up and fail? Do I need to replace it entirely? Didn't know these were a common thing. There is a 93XE like mine in my local salvage yard so i guess I'll buy it from them and try swapping it out. Thanks for the tip! Just another proven point why I think this site rules with great knowledge and great people willing to help! Cheers John
  17. While pulling into the yard of my mechanic to have the timing belt/water pump /belts and hoses changed the front speakers stopped working. When I get it back where should I start looking for the problem?
  18. The switch is broken inside. The good news is I found one at my local junkyard. Thanks
  19. When I push the button to release the rear hatch window nothing happens. I took off the inner panel on the hatch and I am getting twelve volts at the plug that attaches to the window release. I thought maybe it has power to hold the window shut, Kind of like those security doors where you have to interrupt power to open them, so I unplugged it and the catch stays closed. I guess I dont understand how this mechanism works. Could someone help me troubleshoot this thing? It doesn't really bother me to have to use the key to open the window I just would like to have everything working as it should ya know? Cheers John
  20. 10-4 on the trans cooler, I am waiting for both a summit and a jegs catalogue to arrive so I can order one. On the timing belt, I looked it over in the haynes manual I got and it doesn't look too bad but still further than I want to go alone. My local mechanic said If I wanted to hang around and watch that was cool so maybe seeing the procedure will help me in the next change. Besides I am trading labor for labor on some plumbing work my mechanic needs on his boiler, so all I had to do was pick up the parts at the dealership. Everything except the water pump( Dealer price $114.00- Napa NEW water pump with 3 year warranty $62.00). Hey speaking of NAPA, the old timer behind the counter suggested Indian Head shellac instead of Silicone gasket maker for the water pump and thermostat. You guys ever use this stuff? It looks like one of those products that the old timers would swear by. Kind of like PB Blaster ya Know? I'll try and take some pictures tonight. I'm not sure how to post them but I'll figure it out I guess lol Thanks John
  21. I just bought a 93 XE a week or two ago. It has 135000 miles on it so I wanted to go thru it good. Today I changed the gear lube in the front and rear axle, changed the ATF in the transfer case, Filter and fluid in the transmission, Engine oil and filter, Air filter(which was clogged). Fixed the flakey dome switch in the rear hatch, Changed the struts on the hatch, and sprayed the throttle body out with jet cleaner. I also took all of the plugs out of the front end and installed grease fittings as well as the ones in the universal joints on the rear shaft. I just love tinkering on my own stuff! It feels so much better than just hiring it done. Not only cause I'm cheap but the pathy feels like it runs and drives netter now! That throttle body and air filter work really pepped up this little rig! Thanks for the great site with tons of info for the first time pathfinder owner! Wednesday my local shop will do the work I am too chicken to do. Timing Belt, Water Pump, Thermostat, All belts, All hoses, Tensioner and stud, Front main seal,Both cam seals. Hopefully after all this the rig should be good to go! I know I will feel alot better about driving it when it has been really looked at. Cheers John
  22. Man that looks sweet!! I think I'm going to have to make one work for mine. Pathfinder's with safari racks look really tuff. I just hope my roof is rigid enough to hold one. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
  23. WOW! thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I am from north central Vermont, near Stowe and about 45 minutes south of the canadian border, The Town I live in is North Hyde Park. It is so small we have no stoplights and like three stop signs lol. There are a few really cool wheeling spots in my area. Eagles Ledge is probably the most recognized around my parts. Thanks again for the warm welcome and I hope to learn alot here! John
  24. Looks great! Are those clamped to your gutters? Mine is smooth top (no gutters) I called performance products about one of theirs and the guy said I would have to take the factory rack off a doner rig and transplant it to mine with added supports above the headliner. I don't feel like diving in that hard. I really don't need the space right now but I think pathfinders look Bad A@% with a spare on top as well as some lighting on a safari rack. Thanks for looking John
