  1. I did some looking around and decided on the flowmaster muffler to go with the flowmaster Cat. According to flowmaster, their product seems to be a straight pipe design with some kind of sound deadening insulation wrapped around the preforated pipe. This provides much better exhaust flow while giving my ride a nice deep exhaust tone. I'm going to try to get some before and after recordings to see if their statements are accurate. cheers and thanks for the advice

  2. I'm finally getting around to upgrading my exhaust system to new manifolds and a magnaflow direct bolt-on cat. Which brings me to the muffler- A local shop has flowmaster 40 series mufflers on sale till the end of the month for $70.00. I was hoping they might have the 50 series in stock at the same price, but nope. I know that flowmaster makes a good muffler and my question is has anyone here installed one of these and regretted it due to the louder exhaust note? I'm not opposed to getting a nicer sound out of my old rig, but I don't want my rig to be obnoxious. Any of you folks found a better muffler around the same price?

  3. I just got my rig back from a control arm bushing, ball joint, and alignment job and I gotta say my old rig is feeling alot more stable when running down the highway, also got rid of the most annoying sqeek at low speeds.

  4. I recently had my manifold replaced as well, and like you I'm seeing a reasonable improvement.

I hope that with a new high-flow cat back exhaust system, I'll be able to really notice some improvement.

154k on stock exhaust probably not getting all 150 ponies working for me now.

  5. I carry my MSR waterfilter in my truck, so spare water isnt a concern... unless im in the desert. .... and I have all my camping supplies at all times... + a box o 500 bullets... but thats just for a 22...... I carry many knives... so I could cut off some zombie heads if I had to ...... if I need gas... hell... I'm just gonna take it.. I know how to cut a line if I have to ... and at that point its me or you... and im gonna do what I have to... so im not worried about gas either....Ive got an axe, machete, spare boots, clothes,...the list goes on and on... i'm not gonna save gas and ride around in an empty suv... that would be an oxymoron...

and I can make my own toothpicks... :new576: I live in Seattle so I am alwayse prepared for "the big one" myself.... bring it on! ....(maybe I shouldnt have said that...) :hide:

I live around seattle too, but I try not to worry about the big one. Zombies cruising around looking for some scrumtious brain eatings, I can deal with. The ground/roads ripping apart while Mt Rainier is blowing it's top is something that will deal with all of us when the time comes. :my2cents:

  6. Anybody out there been able to find a reasonably priced complete stainless steel high flow cat-back exhaust system.

I've looked at alot of the aftermarket companies like Summit, but it seems as though I'll just have to piece my system together.

If I go this route, will 2.5" piping kill my low end torque? I'm thinking magnaflow high flow cat pn#22760 to a flowmaster 50 series

muffler will be the way to go.

  7. I just had my new manifold installed and man, what a difference that makes. For some reason my rig had a problem

when accelerating from 25-35 mph. It would shudder and just basically have a hard time. Now after the repair it seems

to be performing better, I hope that freeing up the rest of the exhaust with a high flow cat back system will improve

    performance as well.

  8. About all you can ditch in the way of weight is an external tire carrier, the rear seats, carpet and padding. It really won't achieve much for mileage though.

What would matter more is rolling resistance (wheel bearings in good shape, manual hubs, no brake drag, don't use the roof rack, light tires and rims of correct size) and driving mellow. General rule is accelerate evenly and don't exceed 3000 rpm cruising. If course, having the engine tuned perfectly matters and intake/exhaust upgrades.

Most peoples WD21s are about 4000# curb weight and can allow another 1000-1500# payload although I've gone well past that!!

In all reality 20+ mpg hwy is readily achievable but that's about as good as it gets.

I hear what you're saying. I pulled the tire carrier, roof rack, and spoiler (dirt deflector) off and am in the process of tuning this old beast

up. Maybe I'll take Westslope's advice and remove the roof and while I'm at it I'll replace all the bodywork with carbon fiber. :jk:

  9. I do not know of Dorman, is this an OE type replacement? If so, I doubt there will be any gains. How much does it cost? It may be worth upgrading to headers...

    B

Yes Dorman is an OE replacement, Believe it or not I picked up the manifold, gasket, and all other parts for replacement for $97.50 tax and shipping included.

I thought about headers, however I've got two other cars to feed and my pathy is just my daily driver. I'll probably end up going with a magnaflow hi flow cat to

    a flowmaster 50 series muffler.

  10. I've been lurking around your site for a little while now, and I decided to join up in order

to ask a few questions and maybe share some of my own ideas. I understand that these

vehicles were never really designed for mpg. , however I couldn't help but notice that it

seems as though there is a ton of excess weight on these rigs, not to mention the

aerodynamics of a brick. I'm wondering if anyone here has taken the time to record their

mpg before and after yanking off the excess junk. Oh and can anyone answer why the hell

is ther a stock spoiler on a 5000lb 150 hp suv, was Nissan thinking that with all that hp we

might all be fish tailing all over the place? :wtf:

  11. Hello to all, I'm a newb to this site and I was reading about this exhaust manifold repair. I have my rig

in the shop now getting the passenger side manifold replaced with a Dorman brand replacement.

My 1st question is has anyone had a bad experience with Dorman manifolds in regards to failure/cracking

and my 2nd question would be will I see a little better throttle response from 25-35 mph?
