    A/C Question

There is only one hole, as it grazed the bottom. It is not under any pressure as I can stick my pinkie into the core. I was wondering if I could put a small metal patch on it, or if that would be too dangerous.

    A/C Question

I know what the problem with my A/C is. The A/C box below the glove compartment has a massive hole in it from the last owner. The story is he had a gun in the glove box and it fell out and went off. The hole is at the very bottom and about the size of a pea. I was wondering, can I take it out, and weld a patch over it, or should I just buy a new one (I am not sure what it is called, maybe a cooler) The system cannot hold any pressure, so I need to fix it concidering my journey home is 30 miles and in Atlanta at around 93 degrees. What do you all suggest? Rxf610
  3. Yep, same part number, just completely different output shaft. I got a stellar deal on it, so i just had to try it out. I also found the problem on people losing reverse. For me it was the pump shaft. The tranny pump was pretty burred up and the sealing ring was gone. The new one was night and day in better shape. If you lose reverse, I would bet money it is the pump not pumping enough fluid to engage it.
  4. I, having never even touched a tranny, took out the output shaft of my 4wd no reverse tranny, and swapped it into a good 2wd tranny off a 240sx. So, just to let you know. It can be done. Eliott
  5. I have the service manual for the car and a service manual for the tranny. I have the actual nissan service manual. Should I take them home and try and rebuild them both, while swapping the output shaft? The car is about 2 miles from my house, but I don't have any way of towing it home, but I guess I could bring the trannies home. Eliott
  6. How simple is that? The only issue is that the output shaft on the 2wd is about 4 inches too long. I don't know if you can take out the output shaft of the bad 4wd tranny and swap it into the good 2wd tranny. If I could everything would be great. How can that output shaft be taken out? The guys that have my truck don't do tranny internals only swaps. Should I just take it out of the shop and try and do it myself? Eliott
  7. I am in a bind. I bought a used transmission and got a 2wd rather than a 4wd tranny. I cannot get a hold of the guy that sold it, so I am losing money as we speak with it sitting at a shop. I was wondering if I could just pull the transfer case, take off the front axle and just mount a longer driveshaft to the 2wd housing? I don't really care about 4wd, so would this be a viable option?
  8. I don't know his address. I got near his place, but not to it. I am pretty out of luck with him. The cell phone number I had on him is not working. Eliott
  9. I put my pathy in the shop and had a used tranny I had purchased delivered there. When the guys got and tried to bolt it to the car the output shaft was too long and they cannot fit the output shaft into the transfer case since the guy who sold it to me gave me the 2wd and not the 4wd one. I cannot get a hold of this guy and I think he is a lost cause. So is there anything I can do to get around this. The guys said the output shaft is like 4 inches too long. Can the output shafts be switched relatively easily? Eliott
  10. I got a new tranny. It was used, but 100% functional, and not to mention it was only $25 through an auction. I should be getting it friday, so the swap begins. I have a haynes repair manual, and it tells me how to take it out, but makes no mention of the transfer case, so i guess they worked on a 2wd model. Any experience on dropping a tranny and putting a new one in?
  11. I dropped the pan and replaced the filter, and nothing looked out of the ordinary with the wiring. I have a multimeter, is there any way for me to test which of the wires is the problem wire or why reverse won't engage? I was told by the previous owner it would slip out of reverse from time to time, but now that I have it, it won't even engage.
  12. Ok, so the reverse lights come on, but the engine rpm's drop pretty dramatically, like it is going to die. There is also a little clicking noise coming from the tranny when I put the key to on (before I start it). I am stumped. Also if I hold my fingers on top of the tranny I can almost feel an electical pulse in my fingers if that noise is on. I can get it to stop by unplugging the wires that run into the side of the tranny.
  13. That is the issue. There is no reverse at all. I got the car free, but this may end up costing me more than it is worth.
  14. I have a re4r01a auto tranny on my 95 pathy, and I have no reverse. Signs say it is time for a new tranny. I found a rebuild kit for like $200, but I have never done anything like that before. Would this be something I could undertake? I got quoted like $2600 for a rebuild, so I just don't know if it is worth it for me to do it at that price. What do you all think?
  15. To get that puppy to turn.... The solenoid needs the heavy juice. Top of your photo the copper looking treaded post. Hit that with a positive jumper cable to the positive lead on the battery. Install the starter motor (as it grounds through the motor bolted to frame) and then stick a wire into that connection on the side, and hit the other end of the wire to the positive terminal as well. Doesn't need to be but a small gauge wire. That will get her kicking if the motor is fine.
