  1. 88' Thanks for the info. on cleaning and changing the AMS(air mass sensor)But every year I have mine cleaned because my Pathy starts having an erratic idle.(between 800rpm-1500rpm)and the exhaust stinks like sh_t! I notice when I mess with the pigtail towards the back end of the AMS, it regulates the idle.(pigtail=wires going into black square that snaps on. What can I do? Is this an MAS problem?

  2. I think your absolutely correct, Zack! Although it is kind of late for a class action suit! I have a '95 with 125,000 miles and it is rusting to sh)t! I have rust underneath my rear seat(a hole)around my rear windows, little spots showing up in front! I will probably have to junk it eventually due to rust not engine failure! Too late to do anything!!!!! And I am retired at 55 due to spine surgery and live on a fixed income, so rebuilding the frame is out of the question!!

  3. If it's "gettin old" tell me that it has been asked many times and refer me to the search area. Your first reaction isn't to go searching for a topic!

Thanks, Kittamaru. I know there is Bosch, NGK,and your all american Champions, and on and on...,

  4. I use NGK because I had known that NGK were mostly used in foreign cars and trucks. Seems to be working good. What does everyone else run?

  5. Folks, I know you people will say that my truck is a baby as far as mileage goes, but this is the first Pathy I've had and I love it! It has 124,000 miles and rust under the rear seat. I change the oil every 3 months along with the fuel filter. Every 6 months I change the air filter and once a year, the spark plugs. Can any of you people tell me anything else to do so I may keep this truck as long as possible? :puterpunch: PS- It is a '95

  6. What do other Pathy owners do about this situation? When it gets cold the tire lose a little air, when it's warmer the tires' reinflate. I know it is shrinkage and expansion of air but do others fill to recommendation or wait for warmer weather.

  7. Hi! About 2 months ago my Pathy(95' SE-V6)started having very erratic idling when stopped at a light or slowing down to make a turn. The idle would go from 1,000rpm to 400 and below and stall! I brought it to my local mechanic and he replaced the air mass sensor. It was OK for 2 months and now it is doing it again. The exhaust also stinks! He got the pathy in his shop took out the A.M.S.(air mass sensor)and sent it back to the auto parts store where he got it and said it was faulty. OK, I get the pathy back and it is good for a week and it starts doing it again. My mechanic said if I were in the area when it was acting up to bring it in and get him right away so he could actually see it and experience what was going on. Has anyone had this problem before with their pathfinders?

  8. I have ran a search and nothing really convincing came up on this topic, so I must throw it to the masses again. Does synthetic oil work well in our vehicles? They have some really interesting synthetic oils out nowadays! I have 121,000 miles on my Pathy. Need to know if synthetic would be worthwhile using? 1995 SE-V6 Pathfinder. sssh
  9. Generally speaking, the greatest factor effecting torque is the velocity of the air/fuel mixture moving through the engine, higher velocity-more torque, the more volume of air/fuel mixture the more horsepower. There are headers designed specifically for either or a compromise of both. Small short tube headers are more for torque whereas large long tube headers are more for horsepower. So removing restrictions on the intake end is just as essential as dealing with the exhaust end of the system. Picking a good free-flow cat and the right type of muffler are also important.

Thanks offroad, that sounds like the easiest way to go! -bounce-

  10. yea do what they said...try and contact the original owner? if not assume its never been changed and change it...its no fun when it breaks...esp if u cant do the work personally...and when u do it do the water pump and prob the cam seals...

I'm friendly with the guys that own the used car lot. So I will just go to them and ask them to try and find out who owned the ride before I did. Thanks to everyone again, for your help.

  11. It is a belt, not a chain from 87-95, and no, they don't keep universal records of every vehicle. Individual dealerships may keep those records, though. It couldn't hurt to call and ask if you know that the Pathy has been housed in your area all it's life. Check for a foil sticker under the hood with the t-belt change date on it. Otherwise you may as well assume that it's never been done and is about to break, with 119K on it. A t-belt change isn't a major alteration, or even major repair, it's simply maintenance.

It is a major alteration if ya' don't know what your doing! Mechanics was not my interest growin' up, so this alteration is like brain surgery! If it isn't a major alteration, why do mechanics charge $700-$1000 to perform it? Changing spark plugs and oil is maintainance!

  12. I bought my Pathy off of a Used Car lot. It had 117k miles when purchased and 119k now. Since I didn't know the original owner I would like to know if their is a way of finding out if the timing belt has ever been changed? Maybe Nissan keeps records of major engine alterations done to their vehicles!

  13. The onboard ride control kit is optional, not standard and it's not the most wonderful thing in the world anyway, the air lines tend to kink or pull out over time. I'd just use the regular dial-adjustable shocks and go that route.

I looked at the shocks in an on-line catalog. It seems as though the dial is on the top part of the shock right next to the body of the vehicle. So if I want to tuff up the ride a little I have to get out and turn these dials? Seems as though it gets messy up there! Do I have changing the ride correct?

  14. Hi everyone. I am interested in buying the RS9000X shocks by Rancho. I would like to know from someone who has this shock, how big the inner console is. The one used to soften and harden the ride. I need to know if it will fit in the blank space under the radio? Thank you!

  15. My Pathfinder needs a whole lot of room to turn! I had a 91' Townecar that had a shorter turning radius than this truck! I brought the truck to my mechanic and he told me that he could move the turning blocks(?)and that I would get a little better radius from that. Would, in you folks opinion, make a noticeable difference?

  16. I bought my '95 Pathfinder 1 yr. ago with 118,000 miles on it. It now has close to 119,500. How am I to know if the timing belt/chain has been changed? Does Nissan keep records of things that have been done to their autos' indefinetly?
