Well, my reliable truck has a driveabilty problem. Intermittment (during some driving sessions -no problems) stalling at low rpms, and short random power losses at highway speed. I can keep a cold engine running by riding brake and feathering accelerator for additional fuel. The stalling seems to be less significant as driving time exceeds 20 min. (perhaps coolant/engine temperature related. What i have done so far:
Old Fuel filter removed - New one installed.
Checked my ecu - revealed code 11 - crank angle sensor- in distribution. I've performed the test mentioned in the repair manual and there is no ground to tab D of the connector with the ignition off (if working it should have gound). -a fix means swapping out old dist. with a new one- expensive - sources requested. thanks
Removed just about all electrical conectors for visual inspection for corrosion etc.
Observed fuel injectors during operation and noticed a lack of fuel delivery when stalling occurs or tries to stall during idle. It almost seems one injector is a bit drippy, and some gas dropplets get splatter upward. I don't know if this normal. Never had the injectors cleaned in over 65,500- don't fix what is working fine?
Performed fuel pressure check - 32lbs - engine cold, engine warm 34 pressurized; Engine running cold 38, 39lbs running normal op temp.
Mpg is great >18 <19.5. no noticable difference in exhaust.
Well, now i'm wondering if the crank angle sensor in the dist. is really failing/failed or can it work intermittily, as in malfunctioning.
Local Nissan expert - want $85 for just diag. But i just might do it soon. You never leave the shop for less than $220.
