hey ... i'm getting ready to either install headers or simply replace the studs on my 95 XE while retaining the manifold... was wondering what the general cost is on a set of the 300zx replacement studs? thanks. .joel.

i was under the impression thorley didn't make a set for the 95 automatic pathfinder? have you heard or do you know otherwise? if so, let me know the specs as i'm on the verge of purchasing the pacesetter headers. i have a 95 XE with a popped manifold nut; going to either just buy all new studs and keep the manifold or get the header; would rather have the thorelys .. .joel.

i found a similar material at home depot; perfect, really, they call it ... ... PLUMBERS RUBBER! ... ... mid grey color; would like black better, but it's pefect weight and flexibility; much tougher than the original material. 11 bucks for a 2 x 5 foot peice; plenty of room; i found the pieces of the old one so will make a template from that. priced a new one for just the right side at nissan and they wanted 55 bucks. shwew!!

can the pegs that snap it in be found somewhere? junkyard, maybe?

i'm pretty sure that's the same engine as mine; but lord ... oh my ... (and i've done several starters on several cars) that was the tightest fit i've ever seen. my hands, man ... my poor poor hands. :-) glad to have saved the bucks, though. i thought about leaving the metal shield off, too but the thought of having to redo the job gave me the heebee geebees. i still kinda half assed it as i only put one retainer screw in the shield. one question to anyone listening ... i hastily removed the under fender rubber shield-cowling type thing that shields the engine components from debri and weather and what not ... how important is that stuff to have under the wheel wells? should i re order a replacement from nissan? .joel.

wow. changing the starter on a 95 xe sucks the hardest of them all. i read some of the write ups so knew it wasn't a cake task or anything, but i mean ... pulling an engine and putting it back would probably be more inviting. who out there had to somewhat dismantle their starter before pulling it out through the front? also, the same on the way back in and then trying to get that damn metal shield bolted back on. it took about 4.5 hours. gotta get some gloves ; my hands are wasted. i'm actually looking forward to doing my own header install and stud change after that.

hey there ... i'm going to replace the shocks on my 95 xe and wanted to do springs for the rear at the same time. wanted to double check some stuff before buying anything. can anyone tell me what year JGC coils i need to get from the junkyard? i've read a lot about the coils but can't get a for sure on what year JGC coil works with what year pathfinder. thanks for the assist. will most likely leave stock t bars and crank them for height. going to have bilstein shocks all the way around. .joel.

95 XE - No instrument panel voltage regulator?
leojharris replied to leojharris's topic in The Garage
spent most the day running around salvage yards ... what i've found is that the pathfinder instrument cluster on the 95 is completely different than earlier models; it has independant gauges that you have to purchase seperately from nissan if you want to replace them; otherwise, the option is to find a complete cluster from salvage yards. the much refered to and very well done solution page for the voltage regulator issue does not apply to a 95 pathfinder. as someone said, it's all built onto each head (speed, rpm, etc.) and you have to purchase each head seperate. i've ended up with a spare instrument cluster and will take some photos and post them soon; it has this strange, plastic circuit board type thing linking all the lighting mechanisms. as it turns out, most of the clusters i checked were in some way whacked out like my own; but finally i found one that works near perfect for 30 bucks. (the speedo head alone costs 200 from nissan). this has solved the problem. no more engine light and the speedo and everything works. onlyl thing is the gears on the odometer have a slight hang up every 8 10ths of a mile or so. tried to put some very low visc oil on them but hasn't helped much. i'm stoked it wasn't the speed sensor as i doubt i could have found one salvy and didn't want to buy new. anyway, learned a lot breaking everything apart and will try and take some photos soon. thanks for the assist. .joel. -

95 XE - No instrument panel voltage regulator?
leojharris replied to leojharris's topic in The Garage
did some more research and the parts guy says the only thing he offers is a circuit board type thing for 45 bucks. don't know if it is what i need or not. basically, the speedometer is out almost 95% of the time and the check engine light stays lit; also, at these times, the odometer doesn't work. other gauges look questionable but close to what they should read. the few, very rare times that the speedometer works, it only barely works and the check engine light gos off. anyway, i found a couple instrument clusters at salvage yards but don't know if I should trust them. -
hi there... My instrument panel is going flaky on my 95 XE and I was going to buy a new voltage regulator from Nissan ... however ... the parts guy at the dealership says there is *no* voltage regulator on the 95 XE. any idea if this is true? he says he shows a part up to the 94 but not the 95. if this is the case, what are the options, drop 200 bucks on a new cluster or fix existing? i'm not much of an electric guy. thanks. .joel.

Creaking and knocking around front shocks
leojharris replied to leojharris's topic in General Forums
if it ain't broke, don't fix it ... yes ... true. however, i had a full set of bilsteins once and ... well ... it just sort of lingers is all. never quite the same after. <sigh> anyway, i spend a fair amount of time offroad on the weekends during the summer and the extra support is nice; mostly hard pack sand with lots of trenches on the beach, sometimes at 40 or 50mph + (depending on how good the surf is and where we want to go). :-) will most likely spend 230 for an ebay set of bilsteins anyway. next, however is fixing the speedometer and new left cv axle. thanks for the input. .joel. -
hello ... i've removed door panels before ... but for the life of me, i can't seem to get the panels off of my 95 XE. thought they'd just pop off after removing door handle, but no go ... tore one mounting bracket through the particle board before deciding to ask around. i want to put some speakers in. thanks for any assist. .joel.

Creaking and knocking around front shocks
leojharris replied to leojharris's topic in General Forums
i figured it out today. was rocking the truck from the outside and could here it quite clearly just beneath the corner posts and, as it turns out, it was a screw (looks like it connects body to frame) that was pointing down and making contact with the smitty bars that are installed as a step up. the smitty bars look like somewhat of a hack job as they had to spot weld the front sections to the frame ... don't know. i cut the bolts clean on both sides and it worked like a charm. totally quiet. which now leads me to believe i might not need shocks after all. but then again, it's got gabriels on it and i think those are kinda cheap. anyway. thanks for the assist. .joel. -
hey there ... i just bought a 95 XE with 140k on it. as i've been driving, on the slow starts and stops, i hear a regular low frequency creaking/popping sound from the corner post areas, just beneath the floor board. sort of muffled and dull, not real violent or severe or anything. also, hear a more pronounced, dull knocking when going over bumps. my thinking is that it's probably some kind of bushing? or maybe the shocks need changing? i think the shocks are original ... the rubber bushings on them look ancient, anyway. one more question ... is there available any cheap, easly installed methods of leveling the body from back to front? the back seems to be quite a bit higher than the front of my truck. so, first questions of many to come. thanks for any assistance .. .joel.
