yeah it was 108 here yesteday! It was crazy
i was all excited thinkin it was finally gettin cold so we could get some snow and then this @!*% happens
anyways.... my buddys comin by today with the OBD to check to see if any codes popped up
yeah it does sound like an electrical/dist. problem because i know for a fact im getting fuel up there so thats gotta be it.
is there anyway this could be the alternator or no?
Taro: How much did the distributor run u?
Try the JY for about $50 or try distributor king for about $180 brand new, shipped, and lifetime warranty 1-866-699-5464

It's the distributor. The coil, power transister, and cas are all inside the distributor.
-
Sorry to but Rick, you're also on Z31performance, right?
Yup. It's me. My wife has a 96 Pathy.
-
Stupid question but do you have enough gas in there now?
When you wired the pump directly, did you hear it running?
Did you run the ecu codes?
Could be the distributor that's the problem.

Im located in canada.. Medicine Hat Alberta to be exact..
Go with King Distributors then. They have a Canada and USA address.
You can also try a junk yard. I'm pretty sure all VG33 distributors are the same but do an ebay search for a 1997 Pathfinder distributor and it'll show what year and what models use the same distributor.

A reman distributer is $550... cap and rotor is $65 total.. I'm gonna try the cap and rotor first then move to the distributer.. Hopefully maybe the cap is shorted or arcing.. If i'm on the wrong road please let me know..
$550!? Where are you located?
Try King Distributors on Ebay...$180 with lifetime warranty and it comes with a new cap and rotor.
Also check out Advance Auto parts...lifetime warranty too but costs about $290 but they always have online coupons.

Ok so it happened again this morning. I put a voltage tester on it while it was turning over and there was VERY LITTLE spark if any. It read "NO SIGNAL" for a bit then 4k cranking on some.. seems to be a very low voltage problem.. what to do next???
DISTRIBUTOR!
most likely

I still say it's the distributor or the coolant temp sensor. The coil, power transistor, and the cam position sensor are all built in to the distributor. The extra heat build up can cause any of those components to fail.
If the coolant temp sensor gives the computer a wrong reading, it can cause it to run rich and foul the plugs.
The coolant temp sensor is easier to check than the distributor.
-
Is your check engine light on?
Did you check the ECU for any error codes?
I would say it could be your coolant temp sensor.
Test it and also look for a broken wire or bad connector going to the coolant sensor.

Hey guys... Well i purchased a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder for the upcoming winter and have owned it for about 4 months. Recently I accidently left my window down and a bit of rain got in the vehicle. Ever since then i've had a strange issue. I'll go out to my vehicle and try to start it. Light and everything work with the radio and starter turns fine. No lack of starting power however it will not fire up. I left it for about 5 or 6 hours and came back.. Started up fine.. Then 3 days later it happened again. Leaving my stranded before work..
What could this problem be? Someone told me that it could be my Security/Alarm system. How would i fix this issue or check to see if it is the culprit? If not what other issue's are common?
I doubt it's alarm related. Sounds like a bad distributor. Is there any way you can swap it with a known good one? If not they cost about $250 for a new one with lifetime warranty at the parts store and about $180 on ebay but it takes longer if you have to do a warranty claim.
Does it have fuel and spark when it's acting up?
-
Did you make sure that all of the vacuum lines are back in place and not cracked?
What's the problem with setting the timing?

Greetings all!
I have a peculiar issue. I have painstakingly changes the rotors and pads on my 02 path. I freshened the bearings grease replaced the rear grease seal and reinstalled...with the correct 4wd bearing procedure...I have the most annyoing click.
This click was there before the brake job and is still exactly there after. The front tire was rotated to the back of the truck...still the front wheel clicks. With the manual hubs on 2x4 I even tried to put it into 4wd to "test" the CV axle for click-y-ness...nothing changes. My theory here was that on occasion after market CV's clamp on the outter boot make contact with the top of the ball joint...the click continues....not a small one, the kind that echo's on a quiet night!
This noise showed up after I got new wheels. The fronts have no center cap as the Warn's stick out. The center bore is larger than the OEM dbl tri star wheel...I am at a loss and do not want to be concerned about this issue for a long road trip I am planning in another month.
Any ideas would be most appreciated!!
Sounds like it could be loose lug nuts or lug nuts that are not properly seated. Are you using closed or open lug nuts? Are the new wheels hubcentric?

Ok so my pathy is starting to get the death wobble issue. I know how to fix it, by replaceing the bushings in the rear upper and lower trailing arms (or control arms) along with the panhand rod bushings. So my question is what should i replace them with? OEM from nissan or poly bushings? I was thinking poly because of what i have read both on quality and install ease. Also, where should i buy them? I know AC sells them for a grad total of $150 w/o bolts. But I live in canada and getting things over the boarder is a real c*cksucker these days. So i was hoping that someone else has done this and could tell me if there is an alternitive here in canada where i can buy bushing that will fit.
Thanks
I just heard about this death wobble the other day. My 96 Pathy has about 102,000 miles and it doesn't do the death wobble yet. What do I need to look for and exactly what needs to be replaced? About how much in parts?

I also have a 96 Pathfinder and I went with a U-Haul hitch. Mine came with the swing out tire carrier and I removed it and went with an under the rear spare tire mount. The hitch fits fine with the spare tire down there. I believe it's much better with the swing out tire mount gone. I wonder why I didn't do it much sooner. The only thing I don't like is the holes that you see now where the swing out spare mount was mounted to the rear fender.

Check all of your vacuum lines. Vacuum leaks can cause a higher idle.

Does the license plate light from the 2000 and newer Pathfinder, fit the 1996 Pathfinder?
I moved my spare tire under the rear of the Pathfinder, instead of the swinging tire mount that it came with. Now I need to move the license plate to the middle of the rear hatch so it looks right.
I don't mind the 96-99 license plate lights that go on both sides of the plate, but I'd prefer the 2000 and up license plate light that goes over the plate if it'll fit.

I have a 1996 SE 4x4.....With the Tire mount underneath, no swing gate....My spare tire is on my roof rack.....But I AM INTERESTED IN YOUR SWING GATE......Wanna trade?
I was able to locate the spare undermount stuff. Thanks. The swinging spare tire mount is heavy and I don't think it's easy to mount if your Pathfinder didn't come with it.
-
i do have the rod but i still use my stock jack, so i need those two pieces.
if you're still interested in the rest of the parts, PM me your info. do you have PayPal?
here's a pic of what you'd be getting:
i'll even get underneath and try to give you whatever bolts were used to mount everything.
PM sent

there is the actual bracket that will support the weight of the tire via the chain, a few brackets to mount the gearbox that actuates the chain, some metal tab thingies that keep the tire in the correct spot, etc.
I'll take it. I'm in Miami.
BTW, do you also have the rod and the piece you add to it to make a T that you stick in the hole in the rear bumper to let down the spare?
-
Does anyone know if you can attach a "Stock" swing tire carrier if your vehicle didn't originally come with one??? I noticed that the license plate on the rear hatch is a little different but have never really looked close enough to see how they actually attach to the rear quarter panel.
There's 2 brackets that hold it in place. Each bracket has 4 bolts. I don't think it's an easy mod because under the quarter panel there must be a heavy duty bracket to hold the heavy spare and swinging holder. There's also some brackets on the rear bumper to lock the swinging tire carrier in place.
-
if you live in the US, it should only cost $15-20 to ship them.
Sounds good. What's included, since I really haven't had a chance to look under a Pathy with the undermount spare?
Do you have a pic of all of the parts?
Thanks,Rick

Does anyone know if all of the spare tire undermount stuff from a 2000 will fit a 1996 Pathfinder?
I wanna convert from the rear swinging spare tire carrier to the under the rear spare tire mount.
-
find out if the under-car spare tire carrier from a '00 will work for your '96, and i will send you all the parts you need to make it work. just pay for shipping.
Thanks for the offer. I'll have to see if the 2000 stuff will work in my 96.
I think a friend of the family has a 2000 and I'll have to check side-by-side.
How many parts are needed? About how much do the parts you have weigh?
-
What parts are needed to convert from a rear mounted spare tire to an under the rear mounted spare? It's a pain to have to open and pull the swinging spare tire holder out of the way every time I need to access the rear compartment. It will also look nicer and more streamlined.
It's for a 96 Pathfinder. Also, are there any covers available for the bolt holes that will be left over and under the right tail light if I remove the swinging spare tire holder?
My r50 took a poop!

Check craigslist or ebay. Same distributor on the Quest, Xterra, and Frontier with a VG33.
