  1. Congrats on the new OR X...a lot of guys in the local Xterra Club that I'm still a member of wheel the hell out of these things, and are lifting them and stuffing 33's under them...very sweet. The aftermarket is starting to catch up with the '05+ X's...so you should have no problems. I'm a former owner of an '03X, and it was a blast. The X Club I belong to is very cool about other trucks going with them to wheel...we've got Jeeps, Yotas, Pathfinders, Frontiers...etc...lots of fun. Good luck with the modding and wheeling, and try not to scratch it (until it has at least 500 miles on it) :P:D

Thanks... I can't wait for winter to subside and the summer wheeling schedule to begin. I will have several thousand miles on the X by then so a scratch or two...no biggie, right??

  2. Pictures...I know I know. I picked up the X yesterday (Monday) afternoon and I've been slammed at work AND I'm going out of town tomorrow. That being said...you're right. When I get home this evening I will snap some pics.

By the way...I LOVE the X... :hide:

  3. Congrats on the new X... now lets see some scrat... umm I mean wheeling pic's :D

    LOL

It's funny...I pick up the X on Monday (tomorrow) and am leaving town for a week on Wednesday. I have no idea when I will get to do some wheelin', but I will make a point of taking some pics and posting them when I do!

  4. Just thought I'd give you all an update if anyone cares :P

Went to the local Nissan shop today to peak at / drive a new X. Drove it. Bought it. What a GREAT vehicle. Bought a 6-speed Off Road.

I want to thank all the members of this board for the help over the last few months. You guys are great...very helpful! For those of you in Colorado, let's go wheeling this summer!!

  5. any brand new car gonna be pretty nice BUT.......

i tend to agree with trainman, suspension and tyres on the 01 pathy and your gonna have a pretty capable car, without a huge amount of money be spent.

as much as im a 4wd nut, i dont think i could ever own a new 4wd cause i would not want to damage it or scratch the paint on it.

i can only ponder how nice an 01 is as a daily driver, but i have 88 d21 heavily modified as adaily driver and i think its comfortable.  :D

Generally I agree with people....spend a bit on the Pathy...BUT

I inherited the Pathy, and it was NOT particularly well taken care of. That being said, I have put some cash into it and while there is nothing specifically wrong with it, I don't trust it. The pathy makes some strange noises, the clutch is weird, and I have a strange feeling that over the next couple of years I am going to drop some MAJOR cash to keep the Pathfinder on the road.

Or on the other hand, am I just trying to justify the purchase of a new Xterra?

  6. What's your goal?

Just for looks, or soft core off roading, or hard core bashing?

Moderate off-roading, but this vehicle also is my daily driver and I tend to drive ~15k miles a year on the road.

I live in Colorado and I do enjoy travelling where few others do...

  7. Hi-

I currently drive a 2001 Pathy: stick, 3.5, 75k miles. I have been lusting after a lift, new rims/tires, manual hubs, etc. My questions is this...should I put the money into the Pathy or just go buy a new Xterra Off-Road edition (6-speed, 4.0, etc)? Any thoughts?

  8. I bought a '87 Pathfinder a few weeks ago. I replaced the plugs, wires, distributer cap/rotor, air filter & fuel filter after I bought it. The truck has a "miss" at 2800 RPM that acts exactly like a rev limiter. This "miss" happens every time the truck reaches 2800 RPM, whether under load or no load.

If this is a fuel issue, it should stall at a different RPM with no-load than under load. If it is an electrical problem, it should miss at lower RPMs also. This leaves me to believe this may be an engine control issue. Has anyone had a problem like this before?

  9. Great thread, guys, lots of good info.

So how much lift are all you OME's getting?I've heard anywhere from 1/2" to 2", but would like to hear more numbers.

And if I go with OMEs, must I replace my stock rear shocks?

    Similar question...

Can I use my Monroe Reflex shocks and struts with the OME springs?

  10. I work around heavy equipment, what the mechs. do, is install a hydralic hose with a 45° fitting on one end, and a screw in plug on the other. Run the hose from the oil pan to a convenient place at the side of the equipment. Makes it easy to drain the oil. Hydralic hose is quite strong.

Draining it is the easy part...getting the filter off is another story, however

  11. I go to a Valvoline Instant Oil Change (NEVER GO NEAR A JIFFY LUBE!!!!!). The guys there actually know about cars and can appreciate them. The one here I get out and sit down and chat with the guys while they're changing my oil. They're all cool guys. And...it only costs about $5 more than doing it myself buying the same oil and filter...so I figure, why not let someone else worry about dropping the skidplate, dripping oil down their arm and not have to worry about crawling around in the dirt.

    Hmmm...great to know. Thanks!

  12. If you think the 10ga ones are heavy at 80lbs...you should try the 3/16" ones at 105lbs! That's why I just let someone else do it.

They're paid to do it, and if the break a bolt, they ahve to fix it. :aok:

Do you just take it to the neighborhood change 'n lube? Do they charge you more because of the skids? I also worry about some idiot using an impact wrench on those shorty front bolts and busting them right off...

  13. It's not really all that hard to remove them... in my case there are two skids, and they weigh a crapload more than the splash guard does. Also, I know in the case of the X, we have a few stripped bolt holes, which makes for added fun when youre trying to balance two heavy skid plates up straight and trying to get bolts in holes...

Pezzy's hit the nail on the head. The problem is that the skidplates are HEAVY. In order to get the front skidplate off, the rear one has to be at least loosened, if not removed. These things weigh almost 80lbs combined. In fact, I used a jack when I installed the rear one just to hold it in place while I put the bolts in. I can't imagine how someone was able to change the filter without removing the skids but I will look again. BTW...I have a 2001 3.5...

  14. There should be a fuse for it.. I'll look later on to tell you where it is. As for defrauding your Odo, that info is stored in the ECU and sent to the cluster. So killing power to the cluster won't defraud anything.

If you're right, that would be fantastic.

  15. Hey everyone-

Thanks for all the answers and sorry for the delay in responding....I guess I will have to pull the gauge cluster if I want to disable them. sigh.

As always, thanks for the help/information....folks on this board certainly have a wealth of it...
