  1. Who dug up this old Post?

For it's place in time it's awfully shaweet! The fact that it was pretty much untouched for 8 years without a revamp goes without saying!

    Lazy.... There, I said it!

And you spelt sh!t wrong. It doesn't have "awee" between the "sh" and the "t", it has an "i".

  2. Sorry :puterpunch: It was me, Didn't mean to dig up old bones.

Got curious after reading the other posts about how you felt the WD21 font end was ugly.

:itsallgood: I enjoy a friendly frivolous debate

and if the WD21's front end is ugly or not is pretty dang frivolous.

    So you're the culprit. lol.

So, is it? Ugly that is.

  3. So you're telling me r50s are only meant for the street?

    P1010085.jpg

It looks like you are just about to become a seesaw. And seesaws, especially "unlocked" ones, stop even on hard traction surfaces! How do I know that? Because I had one too and that's the point I made with regard to articulation.

I don't think I said you can't do anything with an R50. I am just saying the earlier and later models have far more potential. By saying "far more", I mean 'all of the'.

Once the later models become cheap enough for "us" to cut up and modify, what model will you choose? I doubt anyone would choose an R50. That is just my opinion but I can't wait to see the first live axle, front and rear R51. Lets be honest here yet again shell we? They even look better than the R50 too.

  4. Simons right, its all about the driver. My friend took his 97 plymouth breeze (a front wheel drive CAR) through some sh!t that I wouldn't take my pathy through. And we somehow made it out.....

Now that's really what constitutes a sad day for a Pathfinder. :nono:

You forget that driver skill has as much to do with off road capability as any modifications done to any vehicle. Tough to say an R50 can't do this, or can't do that. I've seen Jeeps on 33" tires + that can't do what Pezzy does in her R50.

Again, driver skill. Picking the right line through a trail is key. If you point your tires over the rocks, you don't hang up diffs.

Never forget, a driver is only as good as the car he or she is in. I have been on many a trail that doesn't have a "right line". I think we can agree that a nascar can't win a F1 race, can't we? I know that this is an extreme example but I think it makes the point.

  5. and v6, i always thought that you really couldn't do much with and r50 but that's not the case.. have you seen Pezzy's or MichiganAve's? those are pretty cool, no?

I didn't mean you couldn't do anything, what I meant to say was that you can't do enough with an R50. The monocoque construction of the R50 is one hell of a setback for anyone wanting to get serious, they're for road cars and road cars only.

To go off road, at least here in Oz, you need at least 33 inch tyres or you'll get hung up on your diff all of the time. Mind you, nowadays, 33's are considered small. Can you get 33's or larger under the R50?

Articulation too is a major part to off roading. Articulation helps keep the car stable on the trail and is something IFS can never offer anyone. The thought of the old IFS in my Pathy with it rocking/pivoting back and forth between opposing front and rear wheels still scares me. Can you put a live axle up front of an R50?

The R50, IMO, is a soft roader for life. At least with the WD21 and the models that followed the R50 you can still turn the soft roader (And that's what ALL Pathfinder are) into an off roader if you want to.

  6. The Pathfinder was never a true off road car in the first place. From it's conception in the mid 80's, it was a soft roader. The only off roading it was designed for was a supermarket car park. It has never been up to the task of a 4x4 unless serious mods were employed. Anyone that thinks it is, or ever was, a serious 4x4 is kidding themselves. Granted they were over engineered (but for the steering).... That's why they make good project cars. As for the newer Pathfinders... They are the evolution of the WD21's and just got softer, that's all. On a positive note though, at least they have a ladder chassis again. Unlike the R50 that you can't really do anything with, if you want to spend the money on the new Pathy, you can make them an off road monster. Live axles front and rear isn't a pipe dream with these.

Nissan should at least offer an off-road package.

As for offering an off road package, they do offer one. A Patrol.

  7. I soon will be selling my old Warn winch mount/brush guard when I install my arb. here is a photo of it.

The winch my go up for sale with it, depending on if I can fit it into my arb bumper. Good chance it won't fit

The brush guard will be higher up on a vehicle without a 3 inch body lift.

The ARB "winch" bar takes a low mount winch.

There are two types of heavy duty bar. One is a bull bar, this has no capacity for a winch. The other is a winch bar, that's pretty self explanatory.

Though my number plate covers the winch hole on my old bar, the differences between a winch bar and a bull bar are easily seen. Me on the left, sw on the right.

  8. During 2008. My dad is suffering Dementia at age 94 and there's just him and Mum in Oz. Returning earlier than that [i found out in October] would be financial suicide. So i'm thinking around end of August/Sept time. It'll be a good time to sell the home in the UK, have the dogs shipped over to Oz and it'll allow for my wife and I to do a full tour of Europe. Originally we wanted to drive back home but the cost... oh god!

When we return though, I'll be based on the Mornington Peninsula in Mt Eliza. Where abouts in Melbourne are you?

    Harv.

    Mill Park.

  9. I've had a lot of fun today. I've finally been able to put together a website for me. And, as i intend to drive a lot of trails when i get home to Oz [and before then too!] and also because those Aussie trails will be in a Pathfinder my website is called...

    www.pathfinder-trails.com

Have a look and let me know what you think?

There's a shed load of 4x4 photos yet to go up... it's taken me all day just to get the basics up.

    Harv.

When do you intend on getting back to Oz?

  10. This is a high mileage vehicle and I too thought about #1, but on visual inspection they all look good.

I now have my vehicle back and the brakes are great. The dealer said that the brake fluid in the system was too thin, so flushed out the old fluid and installed the overpriced Nissan brake fluid. They did report also finding a bit of air that I somehow missed. Labour and material came to about $70, so as far as I am concerned, it was money well spent.

By this time tomorrow I will be in San Antonio, Texas. Tonight I am not far from Mexico City.

Good to see you are up and running. I agree, it was $70 well spent.

  11. I guess I missed the appropriate time to say out loud... BAH HUMBUG! So I will have to try again next year.

No seriously, may your God look after you and yours over the festive/holiday season. If you don't have a God, like me, have a safe and happy holiday also.

  12. Thanks for the offer, but I am going to decline.

As I type this, my Pathfinder is at the Nissan dealer. I don't have time to play with this, even tho I am confident that I will figure it out and fix it, but the day after tomorrow (Saturday) I leave for a 1,000 mile trip, so can't afford to take chances on the road. Hate to take it to the dealer, but broke down this time and will pay the price.

Will let you guys know later what they had to do to fix the problem.

There are a few things I don't play with, such as brakes, tires and steering. For me, I want only the best in these areas, so do not stint on quality.

Good to see you tackle this problem in the manner you have. There is nothing better than peace of mind.

    Safe travels too.

  13. My 2001 Pathfinder has soft brakes. With the engine running, if I push hard on the brake pedal it hits the floor. Have never been happy with the brakes in this vehicle. The pads and shoes have lots of meat left. Discs and drums were new not that long ago and have never been turned. The rear shoes are adjusted so that I only need 3- 4 clicks to set the handbrake. Bled the system starting from right rear and ended at left front. Ran a quart of brake fluid thu the system and only got a couple of tiny bubbles. So far nothing I have done has made any difference to the brake pedal travel. No matter how hard I hit the brakes I can't feel any pulsating from the ABS and I can't hear the tires squeal. If I hold pressure on the pedal, it does not slowly bleed down.

Any suggestions as what to try next? Is this a known problem on the 2001?

It should not make any difference, but this has 4WD.

You should not be able to put a brake pedal to the floor in any car, ever! Something seriously is wrong with your braking system. May I ask who bled the brakes? Was it you or a qualified mechanic. I ask this because I have seen people put air into the system before. There are two techniques to bleeding brakes and the pump with a mate technique requires good timing. Get it even slightly wrong and you have air back in the system The bleed into the jar method is easier, in that it is near on impossible to suck air in, but requires a lot more fluid.

Does your car have discs all round? If so the drum adjustment will not make any difference in pedal hight or stiffness, and only the hand brake can be adjusted via the drums.

    Probable causes.....

You either have a gaseous build up, still have air in your system or the master cylinder is faulty. A test for the master cylinder is to put pressure on the pedal then relive it slightly, then resume the same pressure. If the pedal falls, it may well be your problem. Bubbles in the system are self explanatory. Gas build up is new fluid through the whole system as well as the bleed of course..

I hope you get it sorted.

  14. The wanna be Gang Bangers are not my kind of company, probably one reason they were shooting at me, as you ignored my previous statement, I wasn't going back and ask them why specifically. When I was in high school, the ones there would carry their guns to school (this was in the days before Columbine, etc.) and flash them if they felt you crossed them in some way, never got shot at in those days though, they were to scared to actually do more than show off. I was in college (different town) when I was shot at by a group of em at the local mall as I was going to my car.

The latino pricks were in the pool hall I went to one night giving me hard looks and looking my girlfriend at the time up and down, no words or any other confrontation. W played one game and left, they followed us out and shot at us as we drove off. (This was a little town, the pool hall only had 4 tables and parking along the frontage.)

As for the subject matter, my point was, the bad guys do carry here, and they don't care what is legal.

I do apologise GG. I, for some reason got the distinct impression that you had been shot at on various occasions, not just the one time.

You can take solace in the fact that they waited till you were in the car and driving off before they shot at you I suppose. And if they didn't hit such a large target you can also assume they were just trying to scare you and more than likely were firing into the air. I am not be any means diminishing your fear. I too would have been scared in your situation.

I had, well when I say I there was a group of us, a copper shoot at me once. We were hanging about, loitering I suppose you could call it, when a police car showed up. An officer got out of the car and demanded we come over to him. We gave him a mouthful, as you do when you are about 15 yr old, and started off in the opposite direction. He demanded that we stop, we kept going. BANG! We ran from that bugger quicker than we had ever ran in our lives. That shot, I assume in the air and for a bit of fun on the coppers behalf, had us all sitting 3" higher than usual. It certainly gave us young lads something to talk about. lol.

  15. Do you want to bet that this is not their first time? Their tenth?

Given their method of B&E (smash a window with a crow bar), I'd suggest they had seen too many movies. There are far less suspicious ways of gaining entry to a house. Having said that, I have no doubt that they have done this kind of thing before. Strange though how they never progressed with their thinking.... They didn't see the need to carry firearms, to either protect themselves or intimidate victims? There goes the natural progression theory put up by some. These idiots were not hard core criminals.. They remained petty criminals.... More a nuisance than anything else. We can speculate forever on what might have happened if..... Speculation doesn't amount to fact though.

I remember when you were down and out a while back. Would you have been so cavalier about people breaking into your home, taking the food from your mouth??

My home, my mouth. There in lays the difference. Joe Horn's home or mouth were never at risk. I have a security system as my first line of defense for when I am not home. My possessions are insured anyway, as well they should be for fire and theft, so take them, who gives a sh!t. The new for old policy that I spend my hard earned on will cover my loss. I have neighbours that look out for me too. Would I want any of them to kill someone on my behalf or even condone such an outrageous crime? No! How ridiculous. Do you think I would I want the blood of someone that insignificant on my hands? We are not Neanderthals anymore, are we? Do not misunderstand me B, I am all for an eye for an eye and do unto others as you'd have done to yourself. Think about that for a second...

Life IS cheap V6, and has been all through out history. What makes you think that all of a sudden, man kind is so altruistic?

    B

Life might be cheap over there B but it certainly isn't here. We try to embrace it here as do most forward thinking mature societies around the world. Those that do take lives we call murderers, and we do our best to put those scumbags behind bars.

  16. *snort*

Nope, not at all. I ducked...

The crime is the burglary. Shooter Joe wouldn't have had targets otherwise. Lets never lose sight of that fact, eh? It is where everything else started from....

Nope, I have never been in a place where I was so desperate that I couldn't work for a living.

Yes, I've spent many years making under the national poverty level income.

No, I didn't have to resort to crime (you know, taking away someone elses efforts) to survive.

Yes, I would if I had to.

No, I wouldn't be suprised if people shot at me for it.

Once again, Joe went too far.

Once again, nothing would have ever happened had the two not broken into someones home to steal.

Hell, had they not run, they'd only be in prison.

As for the parasite statement, yes, it holds true.

The fact that the parasites were illegal immigrants just serves to show they already had disrespect for law and due process.

Look at the pictures of the deceased and the video of his lady. They weren't starving. This wasn't about food. It is about someone thinking they can get away with a quick profit at someone elses expense.

I've known enough pieces of shait in my time to know that some people simply can not integrate into society. There is always an element who thinks it is ok (or even beneficial) to get by at anothers expense. I will never condone that.

The shooting is wrong, but don't try to twist it so much, V6.

    B

Not twisting anything B. As I eluded..... I do not know the circumstances of the deceased. I only assumed that you do given your comment. The question was a hypothetical question for you. As I think we all would do, you would too. Anything to keep your family going...

Had the racist Joe not seen the B&E. Had crazy Joe not shown a blatant disrespect for law and due process and listened to the law enforcement officer and not left the house. Had the mad man not shot the two unarmed petty criminals at point blank range in the back, they'd be in prison too. Let's not lose sight of those facts either. Unfortunately two wrongs do not ever make a right. It is a sad reflection on a society when life is considered so cheaply. That's the true crime.

    P.S

the parasite definition does really fit.

  17. LMAO GG, well said...

If you want to mince words V6, I didn't say 'a little'. I said 'a bit'. That is known as droll understatement...

I've said where I stand on this, but at the end of it all, no one would have been hurt if the crime was not commited... Yeah, dying for breaking and entering/burglary seems a bit harsh, but hey, don't do it in the first place!! Geez, problem solved, just like that!!

I just don't find myself losing sleep over this, or the loss of 2 parasidic lives. Harsh or real??

    B

Not mincing words at all B, it seems I was a little, or just a bit (if you prefer) too droll for you in this instance. Good to see that things can still go over your head.

To which crime do you refer to? The burglary or the double homicide?

As for losing sleep, why would anyone other than the shooting victims loved ones lose any sleep? As for your parasite line... I assume you know these guys story to say such a thing. All I can say is that I have never been in a situation that I had to steal to bring home money etc. to feed my dependents. But if I couldn't get a job for one reason or another, or any type of Government assistance, and I was desperate, then I too would be, in your view, a parasite.

What would you do, if you were desperate, to keep your family fed B?

  18. Are you a blonde?

I didn't get hit, so I don't have a bullets to give you the make and caliber, and I didn't think after they shot at me that they would want to have a chit chat session so I could ask them.... if that's what you want to know.

Or were you asking if they flashed a chicken then shot at me with it?

Blonde? No. Not at all. Given the subject matter and your description of the wannabe gang bangers etc. And then my reply that referenced the wannabe gang bangers to the crime committed by Joe Horn, even a dill would realise that I obviously thought you were talking about the subject matter... Not the company you choose to keep. Or is it that you can't grasp such a simple thing?

Since we are on the issue of people shooting at you.. Why do they SHOOT at you GG?
