  1. I am not sure where your from, but do you guys have LPG, liquified petroleum gas for your cars in australia, most of the petrol 4wd owners convert them to lpg. cost alot less than changing an engine to diesel uses slightly more than petrol , but is less than half the price per litre. i will put some figures up , but have to convert them from litres/kilometre to miles per gallon for you on petrol i get at worst 5.5 km/litre in the city ,, which i beleive is 13 miles per gallon( this is a with some bigger tyres i have put on) so for 100 miles need 7.69 gallons,,,, we pay Australian $1.25 to $1.35 for the good stuff per litre which is $4.73 per gallon so to do the 100 miles would cost $36.38 AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS now gas conversions the older style they lose 15% on your mileage ( new direct gas injection can get better mileage but costs more) now i get 3.6km/litre in the city ( worst case full traffic city driving) which is 8.52 miles per gallon. pretty bad other engines and other types of lpg conversions do alot better to travel 100 miles i need 11.73 gallons of LPG it costs us $0.48 per litre here which is $1.81 australian dollars per gallon,, therefore to travel 100 miles on LPG would cost $21.28 australian dollars thats a saving of 42% and its a cleaner fuel better for environment it has a higher octane raiting,it will never ping or knock some bad points if you want to retain petrol as well which is reccomended as some areas dont have LPG yet, you must put the gas tank where the spare goes so you need to put spare on a gate on the back door or inside the cabin or on the roof, or leave it at home when your in the city you do loose a little bit of power down low but you gain power up top, only small tanks can fit where the spare goes,, 62 litres ( 16 gallons of usable gas) ,, have to put it insidethe cabin if you want a larger tank with the new systems which have come out, they use a lot less gas they have a cpu running the gas injection less emmisions for the environment,, more power throughout rev range,, but they cost alot more and i dont havemuch info on them yet, only seen two so far I have an everage system costs around AU$3500 the new injection systems cost around $5000 thats probably a better option than diesel if LPG is available where you are
  2. thanks 88,, yeah pretty much on all the time on this model just looking for anyone else who has had similar occurences or if anyone has had trouble ever with a pathy transfer case? i am very sceptical to believe its transfer case.
  3. I have 97 Pathy done 190000km I love it,, hopefully dont have to replace it nothing quite compares on themarket these days Problem is there is a large clonking sound when we take off,, also there is this banging just before you come to a complete stop.. mechanic have looked at it,, they thought it was backlash in diff as sound comes from diff or uni joints but apon inspection both these items are fine. they think sound is travelling along shaft,, and bangng on the diff and unis etc also some rattling when just rolling from unis both mechanics including a nissan specialist believe its the transfer case. It does not do this when 4wd is activated just after you take off half a second you feel/hear a bang,, sometimes 1 second later it isnt during gear changes.. can leave it in first gear and still does it.. and when you break relatively hard stop as the car comes to a complete stop and bounces on the suspension it clonks.. sometimes if it doesnt do it and yo have been stopped for 3 seconds then it clonks.. we thought was auto,, but they pulled it out and , apart from the modifications removing the lock up convertor as it vibrated as it engaged on the freeway.. there werent any other problems,, put new filters fluids etc. still does clonking noise. very strange but is getting louder and quite annoying.. ANY ONE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS anyone know if there are parts for transfer case ?? have checked suspension for movement, bushes etc all tight no movement diff is fine a very little play in the diff but normal auto seems to be fine shifts fine grabs, not overheated does it when hot or cold?? any ideas thanks -thnkboutit-
  4. I have a 97ti pathy it is automatic 3 gears and an overdrive which is like 4th gear i believe this has a lock up stall convertor as you drive at any speed above 40km. enough to change into 4th gear with the overdrive button on,, as the auto changes from 3rd gear to the 4th you feel the vehicle start shuddering for 1 to 1.5 seconds it is getting louder now and you can feeel the vibration.. anyone else experience this???
  5. thanks for that guys wife wasnt in the car when it makes the noise soo i dont think its that.. why do you think the balljoint??? i have checked them and i didnt find any play but i must say everytime someone touches the front end like changing bearings or brakes the noise goes away for a few days so maybe i'll try the baffle plates thanks
  6. i have a 97ti that over the past 2 years has a front end squeeling that is getting worse it happens when driving straight without brakes on.. the sound sometimes changes tones when the brakes are applied but gennerally it sounds like the on going squeeling of an old freight train and it doesnt change with brake apllication it is very loud now... many so called proffesionals have looked at it and tried many fixes... none have worked i have met another Pathfinder owner who had the same model and his was doing this aswell he couldnt fix his and is even trying to sell it.. we have tried different brake pads as it sounds like a pad vibrating noise we have tried an anti squeeling paste on the pads.. we have machined the discs.. we have replaced front bearings.. we have replaced dust seals( this is what Nissan said it was) the last thing we done was the bearings.. the noise has quitened down by 60% but is still there the only thing which is strange is that if you slightly turn left or right then the noise dissapears for a few seconds then returns???? if anyone has any ideas PLEASE HELP.. it is very annoying.. people all look when i come past as the sound is very bad its driving me insane as well..
