  1. Why are you 'convinced' it is a thrown rod? From this discussion, it hardly sounds like you have the mechanical prowess to diagnos such a problem by trying to turn the car over with the starter. Did you try to crank the motor by hand? You might save yourself a bunch of money by having a mechanic examine the problem.

  2. I replaced my lower links with OEM from the dealer in a rocky driveway with minimal tools. I did have an impact wrench which helped. I did one at a time, and there were no re-alignment problems. I did the whole job in less than one hour. I did them one at a time, so that might have helped hold everything in place. I'm in FL, so rusted bolts were not an issue. If you are in a snowy climate, make sure you check out the condition of the bolts and have back-ups in case you break them.

  3. Why did you remove the intake manifold? You probably have a vacuum leak. Often an engine with a vacuum leak will idle ok, but die under acceleration. Spray carb cleaner around gasket areas while the engine is running. If the rpm changes, you have a vac leak.

  4. You son of a!!!!

I called them about it, and they said that someone had just bought it not 10 minutes before I called.

Make that 2 TJMs snatched out from under me.... :furious:

    Looks great though...:aok:

well I've been sitting on the fence about this one for months. I was hoping Black Panther would have something this summer, but I got impatient, and it cost me.

  5. Yeah, if this guy didn't get the valve cover gaskets right......You might want to start thinking about if he installed something else wrong. Did he pull the heads? If so maybe the head gasket is leaking? He must have removed at least the upper intake manifold--vacuum leak?

Could a vg33 run if one of the cams was off by a tooth on the timing belt?

My guess if it were something mechanical due to the cam installation, would be a vacuum leak. Get the engine idling and spray carb cleaner around any gaskets the were removed on the intake.
