There is a big metal bar. Looks like it's some type of reinforcement beam. I am sure they eliminated this thing for the 88 and up model years.

They showed me the metal brace bar behind the body. Wasn't any room to put the bolts for the tire carrier bracket. I also looked at a 88 with a carrier on the back and it didn't have that metal brace. It looks like someone would of had to cut that brace out in order for it to work, unless you spot welded that bottom bracket to the body. Was the rear tire carrier an option for 87's? I don't remember seeing an 87 that year with it. I have an 86.5 built Pathfinder. Still an 87 but I have seen the difference in the 88's. If you get a chance you might see what I am talking about. If you look on that Ebay pic you can tell he never put it on his Pathfinder. Usuallly there is some rust around those braces and I don't see any on the one he was selling.

Sorry about that I have had a hard time logging in and this forum has been down a while. There is a bar on the inside of the 87's you can't bolt it in on the bottom right because of it. I know because I had one and took it to a body shop to install it. They wound up not doing it. For 88 and above you can do it. So far I have never seen a 87 with a rear rack.
