jaca Posted March 5, 2006 Share Posted March 5, 2006 My pathy is 10 years old XE 5 speed manual, 200.000km.Thinking about changing thermostat ,asuming might be about time. Dont know how to check if is still good ? has anybody know way how to check it.? ( just thinking if this is going to help in anything ,cant complain about heat in low temperatures) My gauge on dash showing in winter .max needle going up just bit above quorter of scale. And I know O2 sensor does not respond till needle riches this point of temp( was waching ECU green diode).Maby this is my answer for angine runnig rich til reaches normal working temp. Slick Posted March 5, 2006 Share Posted March 5, 2006 If your t'stat is bad, your pathy will overheat. they are quick to let you know. if it hasn't been changed in a while (since last t-belt change or before) it is time, as is the water pump. pathys are only allowed 170 degree t'stats. if you run the motor hot.. you will warp the heads.. which is not good. remember.. everything but the actual block on these motors is aluminum. very sissy when it comes to excessive heat. as for your needle location.. yes, that is at 170 degrees/working temp. another way to tell if your t'stat is bad is a jumpy temp gauges (goes hot to cold.. to med in a short period of time driving) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
