csprinkle
Hey all, looking to get into some car camping and road trips with my R50 for when the spring/summer season rolls around. I figured I'd start collecting gear now so I'm all ready to go when the sun hits. Currently, I have a rear hitch, roof cargo basket, and typical camping supplies. I don't plan on doing too much off-road driving yet since that seems like quite the investment (time/money wise). Is there anything else I should look into buying, like an awning or other interior items that would make sleeping and quality-of-life better? My plan right now is to stow the middle seats and roll out sleeping bags, but I'm open to other ideas. Thanks, csprinkle

WAGSNZ
100% recommend an awning. We use ours very often even if it's only as a sun shade for a picnic stop. Looking to upgrade to a 270 degree awning next year but the 2.5x2.5m is great! We store our camping chairs and other items we want to keep dry in bags in the roof box. Bought a camping trailer to carry the tent, electrical and fishing gear and other boxes for longer duration camping. 12V/battery/solar fridge/freezer. Lucky in the R51 to have a 12V socket in the boot to run the fridge. We are a family of 4 with two large dogs so of course our requirements will differ from yours. Good luck and hope you enjoy it. We sure do!

R50_Noob
Plenty of drinking water and spare food. And It always comes in handy to have some bleach and non drinking water to rinse dishes afterwards. For washington camping it's especially important what materials you are wearing when you go (cotton kills). Chainsaw and axes are nice for national forest camping aswell. Hope this helps!
