2006 Pathfinder R51 EGR fault

Hi,

 

I am new to the forum but was hoping for some help. My Pathfinder is coming up with an EGR fault. I have taken it apart and cleaned it up. The valve seems to move freely and fully, and when reassembled it worked for a (10ish starts) then the fault has come back. Any thoughts on what to try next (a new one is £600-£800 depending where from - only through a dealer here).

 

Secondly, if I do need to replace it - does anyone know where I can get the parts cheaper?

Huh, why do R51s have an EGR valve when the later VQ35DE-equipped R50s don't... that seems kind of backwards. The factory service manual also says nothing about an exhaust gas recirculation system.

 

Anyway, could you post the exact engine code(s) you currently have?

I don't have the codes sadly as I don't have a diagnostic plug in. I think I need to invest in one. Are there a number of diffrerent EGR error messages that it could be? Will any ODB2 reader tell me the code?

Any OBDII will work. I picked up a cheap one from Autozone for $40-$50 that pretty much just reads the code and has the ability to erase them.

I have the code now it is P0409 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit.

P0409 does not exist on your Pathfinder according to the factory service manual. I guess the EGR valve is something UK models have. I'm afraid I don't know what to suggest except to take it to the dealer perhaps; there's no circuit diagnosis in the service manual so it'd be difficult to diagnose yourself if it truly is an electrical problem.
